Ranking of Steels in Categories based on Edge Retention cutting 5/8" rope

Just sent my spyderhawk back . They sent it to me with 10 degrees on one side 25 on other. I have an edge pro but don't think that will work on hawkbill . I don't plan on using my diamonds on sharpmake for an hr either. My cosuin pacific salt I have had no problem getting stupid scary sharp

Would like to see u put that h1 to work hard for a couple months. Then comeback and test it again and see if there is any truth to this work hardening thing.

Work hardening is done by heat generated by friction. Using the knife wont make it harder.

Interesting; would have expected results ~ 154CM.

Forgot to add the ATS-34 blades I tested were so hard they were like sharpening granite so I will have it tested for hardness.

154CM @ 61 was nothing compared to this sharpening wise.

Superhawk rebeveled with Edge Pro. Not a problem. Sorry for the OT Jim.

These tests aren't doing much of a number to the knives, are they? I have the new TSEK in M390 if you'd like another representative of that steel with different edge geometry.

I have done extensive testing with M390 in different blades, edge geometry and hardness levels, a lot more than any other steel since I have been keeping records.

That is one steel I don't need to test anymore, I know exactly what it will and won't do.

Can you tell us which Benchmade it was that you tested? I have not had that experience sharpening my older Benchmades with ATS-34.

Not sure of the exact models I tested, I tested 2 different models in ATS-34.

Well they were also like a brick compared to that S35VN Mule using the same Silicone Carbide stone to reprofile them back to back.

I thought you just had the 710 & Wilson's blades. I was hoping against hope that it would eventually inch it's way past S90V.

Just a few photos of my testing setup, some have asked what it looks like.

Took these today after confirming the method and media on a knife that I tested before. I do that and compare the data to make sure that I am still on.

So wait, fricton is created on edge when I'm cutting twine. Guess I should go back to school.
