I may be completely wrong about this, but whe RAT Cutlery left Ontario, the "politics" over naming rights and such began. Somewhere, in the contract and trademarking, Ontario managed to keep their RAT line, and would not let RAT Cutlery leave with their full naming rights. Ontario, has the "rights" to continue to make the Rat 3, Rat 4, etc. However, RAT Cutlery can't, because of politics. So now knives made the standard that RAT Cutlery demands are produced by Rowan. And Of Course RAT can't call there current knives RAT 3 or RAT 4, because Ontario own those model names. So now RAT Cutlery makes the RC3, RC4, RC5, etc. These are the official RAT knives. I hope tis is coherent. It it was lacking in clarity, you will find a good amout of info on RAT Cutlery's Makers section on this forum.
From 2002 to 2007 Ontario had a 5 year agreement to produce and sell knives under the RAT name.
It expired in 2007, and RAT did not renew due to so many quality control problems with Ontario's knives. Ontario then attempted to steal the RAT name and stop RAT from using it.
