RAT + gear (Here lies great links)

I'm looking forward to reading the reviews of this light from 5.11 Tactical once it's been on the market for awhile. Even though the suggested retail/pre-order price is $169.99, if it's all they say it is, it'll be on my short list of must have items.

Until they make a light that will actually set a person on fire at 25 yards, I don't think there is a flashlight made that's worth over $100.00

As a LEO, the ability to fully recharge a flashlight in under two minutes is a definite plus that is worth paying for.

I'm going to jump in here again to praise the Pygmy Falcon II and the Maxpeditions version of foliage green. I ordered this a week or so ago and it showed up last night.
Amazing little pack and the foliage green just disappears in the vegetation as well as blending nicely with everything from a plaid shirt to Multicam.
Camelbak makes a great pack but their version of foliage green is gray with just a hint of green, blends well with................concrete.

Any reason you carry Pentagonlight over Surefire? Usually Surefire gets top billing when it comes to lights!

+1 for the Carhartt comments...I recently retired my decaying leather jacket and got a Carhartt coat..it's excellent.

Actually Pentagonlight's do not exist anymore...SureFire sued for patent infringement so they completely shut their doors...

Ha, and a RAT fits on the shoulder strap nicely, the guy in the review video proves it...

this thread will be useful as all hell :)

Speaking of maxpedition, does anyone have any experience with the Sitka gearslinger? Looks like a great idea, but not sure how comfortable it would be on a long trek. Thanks
I've always been leery of bearing a load non symmetrically, especially for any distance.
I have no experience with the Gearslinger line however to back that up.
I would highly recommend the pack I just posted about above, I don't have any trail time with it but it appears to be an excellent pack and has greater capacity than the Sitka while still being small and light.

I have this flashlight https://www.fenix-store.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=498

And another one from Fenix that is a single AAA battery model.

I'm looking to get a single AA model as well.

That first one is a 50,000 hour Cree LED and puts out 109 lumen, for 38.00

I'm done with trends and I wish Fenix just enough success so they don't get their ass up on their back like Sure-Fire has.
Don
What would you recommend for a good AA powered Fenix light that would be a good work light but also be capable of tactical light levels.
Right now I'm using a Surefire E1B Backup, it's agreat little light but those 123A batteries are too expensive.
Thanks

If you will do an internet search you will find CR123 batteries a LOT cheaper than Wal Mart. I swear by CR123s for my work.

The only thing walmart is good for is TP and 9mm.
The best source I've found for CR123s is from Surefire, do you have a specific source to recommend?

The Sitka is brand new, so you won't find many folks that have them yet. I have a Malaga gearslinger, however, and find it more than fine on a long hike, even with occasional running. The secret is adjusting the main and support straps just right. If it's too loose it will "sag" on your back (like a backpack), too tight and the snap hook on the main strap will rub (though if you like it that tight just wrap a cloth over the snap). As long as you don't fill it with bricks you should be fine.

Not really. Actually, I've used both and the cheaper ones seems to have out-lasted the More expensive ones. Maybe it was wishful thinking on my part though. One thing I have noticed is this: I use to carry a Surefire G2 as my every day carry. It would literally kill batteries just having it in your pocket even if you unscrewed the tail cap to keep from accidentally coming on. I finally switched to a Pentagon Light carried the same way and never had another problem.
