RAT + gear (Here lies great links)

I see there's a spotting scope discussion above and I have had alot of experience with this as well. You can't debate Nikon's optical quality. You just can't. But I was looking for a scope I could pack, through the rain if need be, use for hunting, spotting at the range or just viewing wildlife. Leupold Wind River Sequoia was the perfect scope for the money-it comes with quality glass, been very water resistant for me, nice tripod, nice hard case, 275 bucks. I highly recommend it if you're not looking to spend 1000 dollars on glass.

Let's hear it for the NON-tactical, performing-tasks-around-the-campsite, won't-cry-if-I-lose/drop/break-it Streamlight flashlight, along with its "hands-free" little brother, the ClipMate.

Bonus: the bright yellow color makes it virtually impossible to lose this thing in the woods, at the campsite, on the boat, whatever.

Mystery Ranch? Awesome - always wondered what became of Dana Designs after K2 bought them out. An old buddy of mine worked at the DD shop in Bozeman back in the mid 1990s and after helping him test many of their products I fell in love with the company. I ended up buying a Loadmaster Longbed (external frame) and used it for several years before ultimately concluding that just because it COULD handle impossibly heavy loads did not mean that I SHOULD pack so unwisely. lol

Glad to see the company resurrected.

I have several of the Streamlight 4AA ProPolymer LED flashlights and they are terrific lights. I also have several of the UK Zenon lights for those times when a LED doesn't reach out far enough. Both lights are compact, water resistant and use common, easy to procure AA batteries.

I don't think anyone has posted a link to TAD Gear yet. Similar to CountyComm.com and has done a collaboration with Maxpedition to create their own backpack: F.A.S.T. EDC (now in it's second generation)
I'm thinking of getting one in O/D. If anyone has experience with this pack, I would like to know how water resistant/proof it is.

Their new website design needs a bit ironing out, but overall I've been happy with their products.

The 5.11 tactical Rush packs are a good buy. Good quality and the price is affordable.

Yes I totally agree with you. Right now I have to stick to Indy Bag for EDC but I've been considering a Rush Bag for traveling that doesn't require too many stuff. My other backpacks nearly gone out of commission 'cause I've had it for 7-8 years already.

You won't be disappointed with one. I have the 24 and there's plenty of room and alot of pockrts and etc. for organization.

I just got the tac tailor 3 day assault pack and it is bad ass. I am going to put it through the ultimate test and i will let you guys know how it does.

As we were talking about countrycomm and them not shipping outside the US, the following was brought to my attention:

http://www.endtimesreport.com/survival_shop.html

They carry some of the gear and ship worldwide.

you are a total and complete STAR:):)

was going to order loads of stuff from countycom ( times 4 ), christmass pressies for my mates etc, untill I got to the check out.......:jerkit:

Now I can, glad I checked this thread out:)

nice one luckykitty,

PUrrrrrrrrrrrr

TAD gear and Grey Group both are awesome sites, odds and ends survival and evasion supplies you can't find anywhere else.

I like the CountyComm button cell lights, they have slide switches.
They come with clips, or keychain style.

The blue ones seem both brightest and to have the most spill.
Making them the most viable emiter for a lighte clipped to a hat or clothing.
But the ones with clips only come in white emiters.
So we do a little surgery...

Orange body clip light, easy to find if dropped:

Blue keychain light = brightness
http://countycomm.com/light10.htm

And take the blue bulb and switch and put it in the orange body. (3 minute job requiring a small screwdriver)

For lord only knows what reason the So-LED clips are currently $4 a piece, prices seem to bounce around, I think they were $1.50 last month, and I payed about $1.75 for mine a few months before that.

Great thread, totally dig seeing where others shop for gear.

Small back up flashlights, rechargeable solar light, hard use lights as well.

I have personally used these products for almost 3 years now with GREAT results.
They have never let me down in various situations, even when a tornado struck the town we used to live in.
