RAT + gear (Here lies great links)

I agree. This thread should be stickified. Not sure how the mods'll feel about it though. This forum already has a LOT of stickies. Perhaps a single sticky with links to the photo thread, RAT chat, and this thread would be the way to go. If I've overstepped my newbie boundary here, I'm sorry.

for my fellow canucks:

http://www.mec.ca

Mountain Equipment Co-op is a really good source for a lot of things. I get all my climbing gear, and packs from them. they also work very hard to make sure that conditions are good in their over-seas factories.

I've also found out that Camper's Village has started to carry Mountain Hardwear gear.

I clarified the title a bit and stickied this at the request of some pack members.

We do have alot of stickies, but a few of them will be going away soon (blade show meet and greet, contests) and this is a really great thread.

Jeff, Mike and Tony, feel free to unstick it if you disagree.

Thanks Guys!! My thinnking was the same with regards to some of the stickies going away... Great resource:thumbup:

Cut from Jeff's post @ http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=576684.

Maxpedition! This company over prices their gear. You can get the same packs for about a third of the price with a little research online. That patch they sew on a production pack must cost them a bundle. The gear slinger is really the Falcon II minus a shoulder strap. Go to ebay and look for gear from Airsoft Eagle. It comes from Australia and takes two weeks to get here but it's the same gear and you save a lot. Enough to buy more stuff. Also, I use the Fenix E20 and it has replaced the other lights in my kit.

I hear ya, Maxpedition gear is a bit pricey, and you can get "similar" gear cheaper, but comparing the quality Maxped is on a different level.

I would gladly shell out the extra money for a genuine Maxpedition product. No one really makes a pack that solid that's any cheaper. Cheaper is cheaper :)

It really depends on how one uses the pack/accessory. Maxpedition stuff is well built to endure a lot of hard use/abuse, not unlike RAT knives. On the other hand, if someone doesn't put tough demands on their gear, Maxpedition is probably overkill. I lean towards Maxpedition and London Bridge because my packs are bug-out bags and I trust them to hold up when most needed. :)

+1:thumbup: You get what you pay for, and I will spend extra $ for tried, testd and true quality.

Maxpedition makes decent stuff but my personal favorite for bags is Kifaru - handmade to order in the USA and just completely bombproof.

Very expensive but it is truly in a class of its own.

Great forums too!

I think Maxpedition designs all the stuff and China makes it. As all of you know, I'm not big on Chinese goods (call me a racist, protectionist, right-wing extremist, whatever) but I have to say that Maxpedition gear is some of the best built and best designed stuff I have used.

Technically the stuff is made in Taiwan, so it's at least it's not Red China. :)

I'm right there with you. I make a concerted effort to avoid chinese made goods though it's all but impossible these days.

Nothing against the chinese people themselves but their ideology and march in the direction of global dominance leave me a bit disturbed.

A few notable exceptions to my attempted ban are Maxped and electronics.
