RAT pack knife final specs

seriously though,

i've been on the forum, less than a month. what I would have done:

orange (any unique color) powdercoat izulas (RP# included on handle), $50-60 price point, throw in a RC forum patch, a couple RC stickers. Manufacture ~200 limited edition offered exclusively to Rat Packers (or to anybody, but Rat Packers get discount).

izulas are a knife some people wouldn't mind having multiples of, like what i've heard around here before "you can always use another izula"

disclaimer: I don't know how the manufacturing process for knives work, I understand there is a lot of production planning and lots of costs involved in bringing a new model of knife to market.

Well, we voted on what knife to work with, RC-3 was the one that recieved the most votes, Izula was third after the RC-4.

As for a unique powdercoat option, it was decided that we would use a off the shelf color because each color that gets used by Rowen goes through a testing and proofing phase, thus jacking up the cost of the knife and prolonging the process. It sure would suck to get the blades all done and 3 months later find out that the powdercoat was flaking off due to a compatibility issue.

I like the RAT pack patch idea, but not as much as the RAT pack screws.

There's a great scene in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, where Tuco, a.k.a. "ugly", is taking a bath and gets jumped by a gunman. The gunman has to lord it over "ugly" that he has the drop on him...or so he thinks. Tuco shoots him with a gun he has in the tub and then says some thing like, "When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk."

Enough talk, shoot!

Are the knives currently in production yet, Shotgunner? I'm just curious as to the probable wait time we have before they are up for sale.

No, as of yet the final specs haven't been forwarded to Jeff. I expect to have that in his hands early next week. Once that happens I have no idea how long it'll take to see the final product seeing that Jeff, Mike and Rowen have quite a few irons in the fire at the present time I don't know where on the priority list this will fall.

Works out for me. Gives me time to put away me pennies :D And here I told myself no more sharp and pointy stuff for the rest of the year....

Not everybody got exactly what they wanted, but this was the fun of a forum knife and the result of a very democratic voting process. The point about the forum knife wasn't about costs, selling stuff or deals.

It was an opportunity for the ratpacks to have first dibs on a unique knife configuration. Now that the Ratpack numbers shot up to 200 plus or so, that is a pretty tall order. Personally, I even think the laser engraved rat-pack number is over-doing it. I know its easy to make, but its going to be a big head ache between Tony and Shotgunner to sort out ratpack owners/numbers/shipping it right etc. Then throw on top of that some folks will back out, then there will be quabbles about who gets what new number becomes available...etc...etc...

Anyhow this is a big deal and a real privilege to be able to be part of it all for the price of 25 posts. Hell no individual is even committed to buying the forum knife. What any individual wants is irrelevant to the topic. This is the forum knife. It is what it is.

Thanks to the mods for their hard efforts!

Ah, I see. Well thanks for letting me and everyone know that the wait will likely continue.

I'd just like to add that your effort, as well as your fellow mod's, are appreciated. People fail to realize that we all have real lives, jobs and families to deal with. Keep on, keeping on.

No please, I'm dying to hear your ideas on how I could have pleased everyone......

Tony and myself did all in our power to make sure that everyone was heard and the choices offered didn't put undue strain on Rowen and RAT.

Can't make everyone happy, don't sweat it.

No, I didn't, I just had a mental snap, personality disintegration type thing and decided to be nice and give a little backup to the guys that've been putting this together.

I'll be better in a little while. ;)

Man, I can't say enough about you guys doing this knife. This kicks ass. A big thanks! Hi to you Texas people. I grew up on the northeast side of Houston.

I think that knife is a great idea, everyone can't be pleased but it does have its appeal. I don't envision the need for an RC-3 but if the funds permit it I will buy one, because I like the idea and so far its been a great enjoyment to be part of this forum.

I say go ahead as planned, whatever design was democratically voted for :), I'm in.
