Ray Laconico and Mark Wohlwend joint project knife

Its your colab.....I think you 2 should choose the design youd like to work together, rather then let others choose for you. At least for the first colab. Just my opinion....

You're right Jake. This will actually be our second colab. I think Mark is forging the first one soon. We just thought it would be fun to get you guys involved. It's not like we didn't have enough design ideas in our heads. Getting the W&SS involved just makes it fun and something different. You guys are coming up with great ideas. It's going to be tough to choose one. Thanks again:thumbup:

Ok so I lied when I said it was my last one !:o

Maybe this one is too late anyway but I drew it up this morning so thought I'd add it !

WOW! That is sharp ( no pun intended) all it needs is some jimping and it perfect. Beautiful.

I agree although I'd like to see it with an extra 1/2" on the handle length to balance it out, sweet design though !

What program did you use to draw it ?

Hey guys, Mark and I got caught up in another project so we haven't really been able to pick a winner yet. I'm finishing it up tonight so probably by this weekend, we'll have a pick. There are some great designs here. We apreciate all your input. Thanks!

Okay, here is mine.

the "Ameruukko", since it is kind of an Americanized puukko, with the full tang and handle shape. Narrow, thin blade with either a scandi or a thin sabre-convex. Also, since my main objective would be to keep the knife really light, and keep the balance close to the blade/handle junction, so a light wood like birch would help to acheive that.

loving the ameruukoo mate, really like the idea of the full tang paired with the traditional design and materials. The thin blade is a big plus as well, id buy one

I like it, great name...what stock would ya want ?

Well, I have pretty big hands and 4 1/2" is more than big enough for me. An extra 1/2 inch would be for people with freakishly thick hands.

I used Adobe Illustrator CS3, then a bit of Photoshop CS3.

Had another go, this is the pleb, a small knife that can take a beating. 4" handle and a 2 3/4" blade. With Australian Jarrah hand scales. Mate of mine gave me the blade from a kit that he had. I ground it down to a stick tang and made the handle for it but i reckon it would work really well as a full tang knife. Maybe with a scandi grind so it could be used more effectively for wood carving

Here is my design (bolding plagiarizing some of Ray’s design clues):

I call it the “Woodcrafter”, …or better yet “BigAss Bushcrafter”.

12” overall, with a 5 3/8” handle and a 6 5/8” blade that measures just over 1 1/2“ from spine to edge at the bottom of the belly.

I would think about using 3/16” stock, I might make a version in A2.

Designed as a general purpose camp knife with a nod toward bushcraft designs.

I think it would be just my kind of Bushcrafter.

Big Mike

This is my favorite. PICK IT!!!

Here is a simple one (not to scale):

This is the kind of simplicity that I really like. Simplicity breeds versatility.

The blade shape is versatile enough to do everything you could ask from a knife this size. The handle should be fairly thick and shaped well for use with all grips. The handle should also be relieved at the end near the plunge line in order to allow a pinch grip for use with the chest lever cutting method. The tang could also be drilled liberally under the handle slabs to lighten the knife. The guard should be small and unobtrusive or it can be deleted.

Something like this would be at home with a camper, bushcrafter, or hunter.
