Real Loveless? Food for Thought!

I'm not computer savvy. And in all seriousness, I do think your a prick. For what its worth, I'm in this thread to talk about Loveless Knives. Not you! So get the hell off my Ass! If you are not here to discuss the Loveless Knife, go somewhere else to cut people down. As far as I'm concerned you can go to hell. And I'll say the same to your face any time, any where. I don't need to hide behind anything or anyone . I was just joking with you. But now I'm dead serious. Your about to piss me off. Friggen jerk!

Lovett,

You could have e-mailed Joss, you might have even been able to PM him.

Loveless made "curmudgeon" a household word in the knifemaking community, even before he was old.

You would do MUCH better to play the role of southern gentleman, than hothead. Joss can be direct, and tactless(but not as bad as me, hehe;) ) but he makes a valid point.

This is your target market, Mike, try not to piss in the cheerios, maybe?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Thanks Steven! And you are so right. I can have a hot head at times. Much to my dismay. I can't pm here. I should have looked to see if the e-mail add was listed. My apology's to everyone. Thanks Oilman. Type writers I know. Computers I don't. Tried it. Works just fine. another day, another thing learned. And a battle ill fought. I should stick to making Knives the way I enjoy it, and leave it to others to argue the merits or lack there of. Mike

mr lovett

you can have interesting insights on loveless knives, but your posts are indeed very difficult to read

i am a poor typist. i developed the bad habit of not capitalizing words when the left shift key fell off my laptop years ago . i have owned many computers since but this bad habit has persisted out of laziness. it probably is annoying for others.

however, knives and knife forums are just a fun diversion for me.

knives are your livelihood though. you are an accomplished knife maker but your on-line "persona" is a turn-off to many. some of your "rants" border on the bizarre

i would advise you to buy a new key board ...they are only 20 bucks or so

i would advise you to think before you hit "submit"

edit: i see you have posted in the interim. you can pm if you pay for a membership. you do have interesting things to say, just don't post in anger.

Barely enough interest to keep reading this thread, but I'll play along..

Nick Wheeler, who has been critical, trying to be cute, stating there is no such thing as an ABS knife? .. did I get that wrong? Nick, hey YOU make one. Sure, you have good looking work, but it follows much the same form, standard looking patterns... (from what I've seen). And, your comments seem highly critical of Mike. I don't know either of you, just making an observation. Get off the damn horse.

I think we should take Mike at his words and not criticise what doesn't really need it. He's given some real insights into the passing of the torch, if that is what is happening. Josh, you could have gotten along without the severe, teasing comments. Making a big deal over nothin'.

O.K., i've never seen Mike Lovetts work and can't comment on the finer details, but I would be interested to hear what Bob Loveless thinks. That's the only opinion that really matters. If Mike Lovett is his man, so be it.

..Funny to hear STeven trying to finally use his sensitivity management training.:D
David

But have you ever seen a Loveless knife?

That is the place to start. Once you get to see 100 or so, and start comparing/contrasting to Lovett, Kressler, Johnson, the Japanese contingent.....you can see what it is all about.

Nick made some very valid observations. If you think that Nick makes/made ABS 101 knives, than you have a very poor eye, but you have shown that so many times before.

I was not showing sensitivity management training, I was trying to keep Lovett from working himself into meltdown and pissing in the pool of likely buyers here.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

BTW, what is the story of the old striped hat that I've seen in pictures, Bob Loveless wearing? ..is it something he wore often, a trademark of sorts?
DAvid

It is a Japanese railroad cap that he took a fancy to.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I've not posted here earlier but some of you know me as a big fan of the Loveless knife. I don't think the authorship of a Loveless knife is going to be an issue in the future. My opinion.

I think everyone that doesn't have a copy of "Living on the Edge" should go get a copy. This book follows Bob from the beginning, in his own words, thru all his transformations. The pictures are from the late Al Williams collection and there are some terrific knives. This is out of print but shows up on Ebay for about $12.00.

Mike L., I took time to read your posts and appreciate your insight.

Hmmm.... How was it that I have "been critical, trying to be cute" ?????

I asked what I feel is a valid question. Mike himself said here, and in a seperate email (which I sent to him btw) that he felt it was a fine question.

I think using the term "ABS knives is rediculous" People use it as though in one fell swoop it intricately describes every knife made by any ABS smith.

Yes, I could pick my knives out of a photo line-up. Or I could do the same but simply by the feel of the knife. There is nothing about them that is an outright, blue-printed copy of anyone else's work.

It's completely fine that that is what Mike wants to do and takes great pride in it. I just have different desires as to what I want to do. I'm not saying one approach is better than the other, just different.

Seems to me that I asked a fair question and got a fair answer. :)

Fake cowboys???????!!!!!!!

A lot of those guys are from Montana.........and can shoot and rope bettern any cowboys you have ever seen!!!:o

There is a reason Bob got Jim to come into his business........and we are all better for it!!! :)

Hey Win and Tom! And thanks! Jim is form Texas, and there ain't nothing fake about that Maker! Un-real. And for those that think Lovett can only make Loveless Designs, here you go! A few really oldie Lovetts!

And the Stright edge Fighter. Around 1988-89 I think.

This Fighter wasn't make jfor looks. It was carried during Desert storm, and saw combat. Mike

I'm really not into fixed blades, and especially not ones with natural handle materials, but that Wharny Fighter is off the hook sweet. Very nice.
