Received today: ZT 0566

I think the fact that it works better tip down means your finger was riding the lock bar when the clip was tip up and now you are resting your finger in the clip instead.

I.... thought that's what I said. Or at least I thought I clearly implied that. Whatever, guess I wasn't clear. Sorry about that.

Before tweaking the clip, the clip was putting enough pressure on the lockbar by itself. Now, it only does if I'm pressing the clip and thus the lockbar.

Been using it for a week now, great knife. Prefer it over my old xm18 even. Great value. A fellow knife enthusiast came over and chilled last night. Showed him my 0566 and he absolutely loved it (he dislikes the 0560). When he ask how much I said guess, he said $200, nope, $225? Nope, $175. Nope, $150?, nope $130 : ) needless to say he is getting one.

Eta-if i could mod one thing it would be the not so aggressive machining on the lock as my thumb has a tendency to want to slide off when disengaging. No biggie just a personal pref. Do love the smoother SS though.

Mine will be in on Monday and got it at GPX for a great price.
Really looking forward to it.

Aargh...drove by the Post Office and forgot to pick up the mail...got home and checked tracking...sure enough it was delivered to my post office this morning...now I have to wait until Monday morning...aargh so close yet so far...

I got my brand new ZT566 today. It arrived with both T6 pocket clip screws and two of the T8 scale screws stripped. So now I can't remove the torsion bar or convert it to my preferred tip down carry. Great knife otherwise , fantastic actually. But I won't get to use it for a month if they even agree to fix it.

I'm very disappointed, if it wasn't for the quality control issues I would have been immensely satisfied with my purchase. Never had a new knife with a defect on arrival before. The fact that its my first Kershaw/ZT doesn't give me a great impression for either brand.

Are you sure you have good bits? Have seen several cases where people buy cheap torx bits and the sizes are not right.
Can you post pics?

That's what I was going to ask. By stripped you mean the head is rounded? Not the actual threads being stripped?

On mine, the actual threads were stripped. But it was only one of my screws. I knew right away because the screw came out after about a half of turn.

I had the same experience, the standoff was stripped when I removed the scale the screw just spun in place and never backed out I gave a tap on the work bench and the screw popped out. Looking at the material it almost looked plastic. I tried threading the screw in the same hole but it bottomed out on the screw head and didn't grab anything. I shuffled the screws around and one screw was able to grab a couple threads and pull tight I'm hoping it stays put with a liberal amount of loc tite.

I've had mine for one month and EDC it for farm use. No modifications here, love the size and easy deployment. Does everything I ask of it and so far cuts hay twine, plastic bale wrap, strip electrical wires and normal tasks and is still sharp. I also carry my XM 18, but fine the AO for me to be very handy.

To elaborate, the heads my Torx screws were stripped on arrival, I did not try to loosen them and cause the damage. I managed to get them free by drilling out the screws. Now I just need to find some decent replacements.

Has anyone noticed the clip screws ant long enough to grab metal on the g10 side? I tried to flip sides, and one of the screws wouldn't bite at all (was fine on the other, all-metal side). The other screw would barely bite metal before bottoming out, but not enough to really tighten it at all. It would seem the clip screws are about a 16th too short for the g10 side.

The first thing I did was flip the clip to the G10 side and the screws were long enough.
Probably just a mix up on your knife and I am sure KAI will send you some correct ones.

I carried mine with the AO for over a week then I tried it without the bar and I think I like it more without the torsion bar.
It is real easy to use the thumb studs without the AO.
The flipper needs a bit of wrist unless you hold it with tip up.

This is a great knife and I am liking it more each time I use it.

Roger that, I figured I'd could get longer screws from KAI. But I won't bother them. I'm a righty, was just trying to set the clip up lefty to see if it would carry OK that way. Trying to get the clip so it wouldn't be putting pressure on the lock bar. It still does unless I'm careful about how I hold it for opening. I guess it is kind of a good thing, though. Actually makes the lockup stronger, I guess.

Try anchoring one of your fingers on the lock bar stabilizer. That should allow you to keep the others off the lock bar.

Humm... good idea. What I think I've been doing is middle finger on the tip of the clip, ring finger in the inward curve, and pinky curled up by the end of the clip, along the side of it. But sometimes I get lazy or in a hurry and place fingers wrong. Then it gets sluggish.

Middle finger on the lock bar stabilizer, ring finger on the clip (if tip up) or at the back of the lock bar (if tip down), pinky wherever

I know this is going to sound ridiculous to most but I am thinking I may actually want to remove the flipper from my 0566. I have the spring removed and prefer using the thumb studs to deploy the blade. The only tool I have to work with is a dremel. Anyone know how difficult it may be to grind the flipper away??

The screws from my clip would not allow it to be moved to the G10 side either.. I haven't contacted KAI yet but yours is not the only one out there with that issue..

I wish they would offer every model with or without the flipper.

Doesn't look like a difficult grind but I have never tried anything like that on a finished blade.
