Received today: ZT 0566

I guess I have a short blade GPK. Only 3 1/4" Maybe I have a short ruler.

Funny dude :) .... Just got mine today... very cool, very happy, BUT, it IS pretty heavy for what it is, and I can def. feel the weightiness of that steel backside. It'll definitely be 'holed up' for a while at the spa, until some of that weight comes off! ....as well as tweak a few other things... By the way... don't know what they're smoking over at GP Knives, but I measured (and photographed), and from the very tip, straight back to the shoulder of the handle, is exactly 3-5/16" (3.312"). So actually 1/16" over that 3.25" long that KAI/ZT decided to round to. I'm about to reply back to GPK and send 'em the photo too. Blade lengths should pretty much be measured like the cops will measure them: from tip-to-handle. I WILL post some pics too, when the work is done, and I figure how to add the pics (don't have .url space ...)?

Am I the only one that like the extra weight? So far I haven't done anything to mine except from the OA but I plan to grab a blue LBS, blue titanium scale screws, blue titanium pivot screw and see if maybe I can find blue standoffs.

I don't mind the weight either. I'm keeping mine assisted and plan to do some minor cosmetic mods too like you.

Chris post links please regarding the scales, screws, etc...I'm considering similar changes but having a hard time finding the parts.
Thanks

I like the weight too, and I just bought a blue lbs today :D I would love to know where you would be getting the other blue stuff

The weight of the knife doesn't bother me either.

Does anyone know the sizes of the screws on the 566? Specifically for the standoffs, G10 side pocket clip...size and length...
Thanks

Yes, blue is a nice contrast to an otherwise drab knife. I would also be interested in knowing where to obtain the blue Ti standoffs, etc...

I think I have finished removing stainless from the knife to cut down a little on the weight. I have also noticed that the knife is better balanced. IMO It now weight in at 5.0 oz. It was weighed on a digital scale that is very accurate. Was checked against a standard known weight.

Would any of you who replaced your LBS be interested in selling or donating your stock one? I flamed mine and got it a little hot and not the desired finish.

Count me as one fine with it stock. Well, except for the clip. Swapped clips with it and a 0770. Works better for me, and the 0566 clip works better on the 0770.

I gave mine a pretty hard workout today, cut through some carpet. Probably 10 ft or so, then after I sawed out the broken plywood I used the 566 to clean up the edges and corners. After I got the new piece in I cut the most sticky carpet tape ever and put the carpet back down, used the 566 to trim any fibers sticking up. Needed a good clean up after and stroped it back to razor sharp easily. No chips even from when I smacked it into a couple of nails I didn't see and pried up a few staples.

Great to hear the kind of use this thing can take. Mine just came in yesterday. Needless to say, I'm pretty darn excited.

I got my ZT 0566 in the mail yesterday and I'm really impressed with it. After reading tons of posts here on the forums before making the choice, I was pretty sure I was going to like the knife but it exceeded my expectations in just about every way so far.

Prior to yesterday, I didn't have any experience with good flippers. I have a Kershaw Cryo which got me interested in flippers but I find the assist on the Cryo very overbearing and the knife doesn't feel very balanced. Still it was a cheap knife, relatively speaking, and is small enough to go anywhere. When I unboxed the 0566 I wasn't taken aback by the size as many mentioned here. Maybe it's because my "work" knife, the Benchmade Griptilian (551), is bigger and thicker -- the 0566 felt slim and well-made in comparison.

The fit and finish on the knife is incredible. The stone-washing of the blade and the non-scale side feels smooth and gives the knife a muted, elegant appearance. The knife feels good in the hand. I find the size perfect in the hand and in the pocket but maybe that's because I was expecting something bigger and was a little worried about it. It's bigger than the Spyderco Caly 3 which I carry to the office everday but this will definitely be in my pocket the rest of the time.

The first thing I did when I took it out of the box was flip it a few times. Assisted, it was much smoother and less aggressive than the Cryo. When you push down on the flipper nub, the 0566 was a smooth evenly weighted opening action ending with a very solid lock-up. I've wanted to use a non-assisted flipper since I've read about them so I went to work removing the torsion bar. It was easy to remove it but the tricky part was getting the tightness on the pivot right. It is smooth but finding a spot that glides out with no effort compared to having blade play has been hard. I opted for cranking it down a little harder than I'd like and using some wrist action to flip the knife open. I am hoping it gets smoother as it breaks in but, if not, I might need to explore some pivot lube options. Suggestions welcome. My top choice right now is Nano-oil from what I've been reading but if anyone has other thoughts, please feel free to let me know here.

All in all, I love this thing and it will be my EDC knife for the foreseeable future. Thanks to everyone in this thread for posting comments and opinions. You didn't lead me astray.

Finally got my LBS in the mail :D I had to use a different screw because the one that came with it hit the blade :( I found one that was a bit shorter but it was still really long so I shortened it, now I have to watch it for rust

Hey Ron... I finally got it all worked out, and your initial work helped me jump into it myself. I had to pay my dues here too, in order to post photos, so just did that, and created a new thread with lots of good details on how I improved mine. Skeletonized, lightened (4.8 oz.), CF scale, FLIPPERLESS, much bigger pivot washers, etc.... Check out this new thread:

And hey, if you want to tear into yours again, and do the big pivot washer thing, I have a few extra washers they sent me... no charge dude.. lemme know. That tiny washer they used on the left just wasn't right.. I used to be a senior mechanical designer, and poor design details kinda bother me :( Blair out.
