Of course I'll answer. First my knife came in so I'm doing some research on things you guys have done.
Second, I pray my experience will save just one of your lives. On vets day I was with my 8 year old grandaughter who was putting flags on veterans graves. She happened to put one on two of my former buddies. Both of these men died because they had chest pains at night and chose to wait it out and see if it was indigestion. ????????? So if you are wrong you die, that is worth not going to the ER and embarrasing yourself?? No 2 days later I had chest pains and I told my wife I didn't want to do what they did, so we drove to the ER.
I told the greeter nurse that i had chest pains. She got up took me to a EKG machine and she notified several people that I was having chest pains. So watching me was an EMT with a defib, and the new Cardiologist who was setting up a new Cath lab happened to be in the ER an hour early so he was standing by me. (Some of you guys know I'm a retired 19D.
I had my first heart attack while getting the EKG, I actually yelled "Pain is a 6, 7. 8, 12." The dripped everything and two nurses, picked my pu under the arms and dragged me to a table and proceeded to undress me and begin shaving where a Cath would go. I was sort of awake for this. My wife was led to a waiting room where a priest was waiting.
Unknow to me the Doc got on the intercom and announced, "T F will not live for the plane ride to Tucson. I need volunteers to set up the Cath Lab now whle we prep him."
He had 12 volunteers including a Doc who was visiting from Brooke who was a member of the Cath team there. This group had the lab ready to go as I was being pushed at a run down the hall.
Suddenly every thing went 'different' for me. I saw my best friend from H S, College, and the 82nd (same guy) who had died in 94. He was taling to me and I felt very relaxed and secure. I suddenly felt a strong arm around me and then WHAM they Defibed me and a huge explosion went through my head. The Defib opened the widow-maker just enough that my Doc figured I had 10-12 minutes to live. He gave me a anesthetic and he told me later that night that he die the fastest Catheter and Angioplasty he had ever done. He reached the widow maker in just over a minute and when he popped the ballon the widowmaker opened up. I guess a big cheer went up among the crew most of whom did not know each other.
He took his time to explore the complete heart. When I woke up 5-6 hours later for gook he and I and my wife talked and he showed me actual pictured. All four arteries on the left side of my heart were semi clogged and it would just be a matter of time before they went. So he suggested a Quad bypass which would give me a new heart and active life. 4 days later I had a successful Quad.
One sork of funny thing. A priest who I know well was giving me the last rites at the moment I first woke up. He thought I was dying soon and had his eyes closed inprayer. I saw him, sat up, and said. "Hi Father." He must have jumped 2 feet in the air.
So for you folks, AT ANY chest pain get to the ER where you can get defibed. Had I been anywhere else I was dead.

Wow, what a story! Although I don't think we've ever interacted here before, again, I'm very happy that you made it through that and are alive to tell the story.

Are you saying that you saw people that were already deceased ??
Iam really curious about this stuff.............

Yes. You can think death dream, or 20 seconds on the other side, up to you. I won't preach to anyone. Interesting that I'm holding one of his knives he left me, now.

Whew...smart thing to react the way you did. A friend died when he attributed a string of heart attacks to pulling some muscles earlier in the day while pulling shrubs in his yard. He died in his sleep of a massive heart attack. His 8 year old son found him when he did not wake up in time for the son to leave for school...
Knowing the signs and acting proactively can and does save lives.
Glad your ok and hope you live a long and happy life.

The blade is getting easier to open. It is a snap using 2 fingers and can be done by the flipper alone but tough. I'm going to spiff this up a bit and am looking for a different color handle. I'll take my time.

Then the detent ball is NOT holding the blade closed?

Exactly, I took out the torsion bar and put it back together when I realized it had no detent. I took it apart again and can confirm it has no detent hole drilled. Not sure if this is a mistake or what so I'm going to contact KAI.

That is very odd. These knives are made to give us the option to de-assist.

Good move on contacting KAI. That's probably your best bet.

Please report back with what they say. I hope they didn't stop making them with detents...

Pulled the trigger on a 0566.

I've had some knives I really liked (mostly Spydercos), but this is my first foray over the $100 mark for a knife purchase. This is where the addiction begins, right?
