Received today: ZT 0566

So it's been a few weeks since my 0566 came in the mail. In all honesty, I am crazy about this knife. The torsion bar has been taken out and I've added a Pete Gray lbs given to me by a very good man. Now it's just about perfect. Action is great, it still slices phone book paper after constant use, and the ergos are some of the best I've ever experienced. It has indeed become my every day carry.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it or not but Bladehq has listings for a black wash carbon fiber 566 and a regular g10 black wash version as well.

I just checked it out now that you mentioned it and I am in a complete conundrum of what ZT I am going to get. I've been patiently waiting on the 0770cf, but I really like the 0566 to the point I carry it more than just about everything I've got. I swear that company has figured out how to bankrupt me.

I miss the kershaw forums, everyone else has a fan club. Honestly I am very impressed with my ZT 0566, I paid 114 for it, I always loved the metal/g10 knives, elmax is a good steel from what I read, and my experience, I'm really confused exactly where it ranks though. the blade is just ideal. I want to try a spyderco just because everyone loves them, and I own a sharpmaker so my OCD tells me, spyderco knife+spyderco sharpener=good, but I think you would be very hard pressed to top this knife for under 200. The paramilitary might come close only due to the lock, but I like the ZT blade profile and handle length better.

Honestly I might end up collecting kershaw and zero tolerance knives primarily, Its not a US owned company but they are US made.

I really like the zt566 because of how well it carries, not as wide or bulky but still tough. I'm just not as fond of spyderco holes essthetically they just don't do much for me.

Yeah, I was thinking hard about picking up a 0566 until I saw that, and the BW is worth waiting for, in my opinion.
There's just no idea when those will come out, because it's one of those "unannounced" color variations.
I'm not complaining, because I don't have the money for knives right now, but I really want to see what this knife looks like in blackwash (especially the lock side).

No joke. The BW version will look so good. I will buy one.

My sentiments exactly.

Haha true story! In the past couple of months I acquired an 0566, 0551 and 0550. Truly remarkable knives and I can't wait for the 0562 and to see how the 0566BW looks!

Here we are quite some time after receiving the 0566. It has since become my most carried knife. I love this thing and it goes everywhere (legal) with me. I had a bit of a sad moment when, after having it about a week, a friend borrowed it to scrape the wax off of a rare bottle of beer to open it and he nicked the blade in two spots on the metal cap. After many minutes on the Sharpmaker, it is back to good-as-new (maybe even sharper than when I unboxed it!). I am still using it de-assisted and put a dab of Benchmade Blue Lube on the pivot to help with smooth deployment but overall I can't say enough good things about this knife.

Lately I've been feeling the itch and looking for a new knife but each time, the question I ask myself is "Am I going to carry this more than the 0566?" and since the answer has, so far, always been "no", this thing has saved me a bundle!

If you're on the fence, go buy one now. You won't be disappointed.

could anyone tell me the size of the washers in this knife? i'd like to put a second large washer in it since i took out the torsion bar.

That's a very nice knife.. How much does it cost?

you can pick one up for 115 at bladehq.

Which just goes to show it isn't always the smartest idea to be an early adopter of what is to become a regular production knife, as these were about $150 when they first went on sale if IIRC. (I try not to think about it now, and just enjoy my 0566, which has become my regular carry when not in a suit & tie for work...) The black-wash version(s) are on my radar as well. But then the question is whether to pounce when they first come out (will they be regular production, or limited run) or wait until the price (maybe) goes down, but then risk missing a limited-run?

For the same money, forum member "Kershawguy" gets my vote... :)

edit. any one know what size washers go into this knife?

You may want to hit up user blairtech. I know he did some mods to his 0566 and one of them was replacing the washers. Here's his threads where he goes into detail about the mods he did:

Awesome, man. Happy to help.

And you're right about the weight. That's one feature that I welcome in a Zero Tolerance knife. Sometimes you'll find dudes complaining about weight but come on, these were born to be hard-use, heavy duty knives.
