Wow Kron, nice! That then explains the tweezers Blue. Thorn removal...must be a "plum stickery kinda place" if you don't feel properly dressed for it without at least 1 and many times 2 pairs of tweezers to remove them stickers. Not sure I would want to live near that many Ziziphus spina-christi as the thorns that are used for the scarification ceremonies of many local tribes and has obviously had significant effect in the religions of the area and from what Kron shares, even how people select their version of edc items to face the tasks of the day. Really cool information!

Thanks Kron! I've noticed the "needle" tip of both of my tweezers is hooked at the very very tip. It looks straight unless you hold it right up to your face. Since both are like that and the curve of both tips looks deliberate, I assume they're meant to be like that. At first I thought the tip had been bent through abuse or something.

another cool thing: TFW are making their stuff more 'traditional'. the grip end of the blade has the baca-baca, the brass piece that hold it all together, the gangya, the guard piece that has all the holes and notches to protect your hand is now seperate, as it should be, and it even has a cho! - often referred to as the elephant's trunk. post ww2 smiths tended to be lazy and forged the gangya as part of the blade and just punche a line where it should have been seperate. might be the lights, but it looks like it's got a healthy spine down the centre too! all them lucs (bends) will be fun to sharpen.

Was just noticing that too Kron...the one about the separate ganja. I am amazed that TFW is doing such an incredible job of traditional meets really clean lines especially the ronda and ronda nunut. I am trying to count because of the way the mata starts I think I am getting 15 luk? First try I got 14 but since they would never make an even number I think I must have missed the first curve.

Ballistol, that is a gorgeous piece. Well worthy of being a pusaka for your family.

The currently applied convention used to count luk in a keris blade demands that the count begin at the first depression in the blade above the gandhik, and this is the first luk. The second luk is the first depression in the blade on the opposite edge of the blade, that is, the first depression above the wadidang. Counting continues by crossing the blade diagonally until the point of the blade is reached. The count must complete on the same side of the blade that it began. Observance of the rule that sets down how to count blade luk demands this. If there is no blade depression, or the shape of the point section of the blade is such that no clear luk can be seen, this is completely unimportant:- the count must finish on the same side that it began. All keris must have an odd number of luk, whether they actually have that odd number of luk, or not, so where there is no luk the convention demands that we add a luk.
gandhik='elephant's trunk'

i get 15 luc :)

i have the no. 5: looks like 3 lucs

this one is easy: no lucs ;) or 1 luc - this has a solid silver gangya :)

Mine look pretty chintzy compared to the last couple blades but here goes.

I just picked up a mid century private purchase kukri in beautiful condition. Only thing wrong was the frog straps have rotted away.

The second blade is a beautifully made Indonesian golok. It has an intricately carved handle and a beautifully made wood sheath with buffalo horn inserts. I have no idea when it was made but it is completely traditional in appearance.

...and now for something completely different:

my Cambodian Mak axe for info, should arrive from USA in a week or so...

billed as mid to late 19c, hollow bamboo haft with bent base at solid root ball which is cut out to form a socket for the blade. blade measures 11.25 inches long by 2 7/8 inches at it's widest. sharp edge is on the inside of the curve. held tightly in place by a horizontally hammered in pin. length overall is 33.5 inches. haft needs a bit of tlc.

note the 'N' stamp on one side of the blade (?)

thanks in advance for any comments.

been looking for an affordable moro panabas, this reminds me a bit like one.

Yep Dirtbiker I get an invalid link when I try your pics...

Kron, I gotta say that is one of the most awkward looking weapons I have ever seen. Makes you really wonder what they were imbibing when they thought that one up. But that very concept really makes it cool in it's own way, I just wonder what the purpose of the shape was, you know why they felt that hook with a blade sticking out would be beneficial. Sort of like some of the outlandish looking spikes on gunstock clubs...you KNOW those were never functional LoL, just looked scary/impressive as opposed to the ones that were more sedate looking but improved the function of the club.

Yeah I got the tease notification on dirtbikers pics too.

kronckew, you find some of the most unique stuff. Just when I think you can't top yourself, you go and do something like this. Pretty cool.

Very interesting thread over there Kron. Thanks! The Ag tool converted to weapon theory does of course seem plausible, but I think I would break the blade off the cane and rehandle it with a short straight handle if my life depended on me defending myself with it :D But then I didn't grow up swinging it at fruit in trees or whatever.

Nice one. looks beefy and i would guess sharp as a razor out of the box.

the swedish trolls under the bridge are quaking in their boots....
this one just heard you'd got that:

Yes its sharp . Even the false edge is sharp. Not same sharpness. But sharp. Didn't think it would be sharp at all.

One of these days I'll have to get something from TFW. They've got too many cool, high quality weapons for me not to. I think a Ginunting or the Binakuko.

Don't look chintzy one bit to me. Love that Golok. Wipe the finger prints off that other one will ya. Might rust in that spot.

I'm sure you did already but thought I'd mention it.
