I sold my Shield. Didn't really want to but I got offered more than I had in it. What do you do? Anyway, between the $ from that and a small mid-year bonus coming up I'm thinking another firearm may be in order. There are a few that have caught my eye. A couple are curiosities and one I fell in love with after trying it out.

FNS 9c - I love this gun. Everything about it. Only problem is I already have a G27 that I really like converted to 9mm and all the different mags to make it subcompact, compact, and full size. Do I really need 2 mid to high capacity 9mm's?

RIA 1911 - I'm looking at the compact ultra tactical models. Having never even shot one I'm really intrigued by 1911's and these are at a good price to try one out. If I go this route do I stay with 9mm or .40 to save on ammo or go with .45 because that's what 1911's should be?

Baby Desert Eagle - the only reason this one is on the list is curiosity and it is in the price range I'm looking at.

There are a few others I'm looking at but these are the top 3. I'm looking to stay in the $400-$600 range. Any advice, opinions, and other recommendations are appreciated.

1911 are fun, and the fns 9c is nice, but the baby desert eagle is a cool gun that shoots well and has some bling factor. See how it feels in your hand. Its kind of fun having something a little more on the rare side, its not every day you see a baby eagle at the range. Check out the vp9 also, they're pretty sweet and can be found around the 600 range. You should also look into some cz's. Theyre fun and kind of similar to the baby eagle. Inexpensive guns that can be easily tuned up to your needs and are easy to shoot well.

I was at a LGS yesterday that had all three. I didn't get to shoot them though. The BDE is definitely a cool gun. I f'n loved the FN but logically it makes no sense to buy it. I'm too far into the Glock to change now. The 1911 is third on the list right now. I'm used to polymer pistols and a finicky gun that requires more maintenance isn't super appealing but they are sexy.

I'll check into the CZ's. Honestly, I see them and think they look cool but move on without a second thought for some reason. Another on my list but it's a distant fourth is the Bersa Thunder 9 UC Pro. I liked how it felt but didn't get to fire it either. Damn first world problems, lol.

I have many guns. I just bought a Springfield XD Mod 2 subcompact .45 in two tone. I would suggest you take a look at one. I have Colt and Para .45's if you want to get out of the box check out the Springfield. I have a couple Glock's and the Springfield just feels better in hand and shoots better. I like the looks of the new FN compact that might be next.

My brother just got an XDS 9. It's a really nice gun. I'm thinking about getting away from polymer for this purchase though. I don't know why but a heavier, harder to conceal gun with limited capacity is appealing to me right now. :D

The FNS is a fine pistol and I think you'd be really happy with it! If you've never shot a 1911 platform I would recommend staying away from the compacts and go with a commander 4" or full size in .45. Rock Island makes a fine gun for the money but the compact is a different animal. They are ammo sensitive most of the time and you really have to run a full size gripped 1911 to understand how smooth and fast and addicting they are. The Baby Eagle is simply a CZ75 platform firearm which happens to be the most cloned platform in the world. All kinds of models and variations exist from the EAA Witness and Rami lines to the newer CZ75's themselves and their P-0 series. Both of which I prefer over the Magnum Research Baby model. Hope this helps

In short, let it be a sig sauer, my personal fav..... sweet pieces

You should own a 1911, it will make your life complete. RIA wouldn't be my first choice but on your budget there aren't too many options. Maybe look at a Springfield Mil-Spec (Mil Spec not the WWII). Or skip expensive coffee for a month and look at a basic Kimber. Or better yet skip coffee for two months and pick up a Colt.

Of course it would be cheaper in the long run to just drop about $2k on a Les Baer. They are addictive.

It's funny you say that. There's a little gas station that I stop at every morning that has a small selection of some pretty nice guns. There's a Colt 1911 that has been there for a few years. It's marked right at $1k but I could probably get it for a pretty good discount. It's the compact though. I know some can be a headache but I honestly know next to nothing about them.

I love my 1911s but wouldn't recommend them for a carry gun unless you're very familiar with them. As far as the guns you mentioned ... its kind of a personal preference and how they fit and feel to you ... but I think there are better options as was mentioned above the H&K VP9 is a great striker fired but is 9mm if you're looking for something in a larger caliber .... The Springfield XDM or XDS have great triggers short resets for the price are hard to beat. Sig does have some nice guns but you'll pay dearly for the name. Just MHO ... guns especially handguns are best picked by the shooter ... if you have a range where you could rent and shoot a few you're interested in I'd highly recommend that.
Best of luck.

That's the plan. I was just looking for others thoughts. I went to Buds yesterday because I was in the area but I got there too late to use the range. The line was crazy. I think I'm going to make another trip at the end of the month and reserve some range time before I go so I can try out some of these.

CZ 75(9mm) or a CZ 97(.45), both are close to the price range your looking and both are fantastic guns. I think the CZ 75 might be one of the best and most under rated firearms.

I looked at a few FN models about a year ago, but was turned off by the terms of their warranty. Unless things have changed since then, anything further than a very minimal field strip would void it. Need a "deep cleaning" after extended use? It would have to go back for factory service. No way. Meanwhile, as far as RIA is concerned, their warranty is great, but the two people I know that have bought their 1911s (one .45 and one 9mm) have both had to send them in due to issues. Granted, that's anecdotal evidence from a whopping two owners, but since that's 100% of the Rock owners I know, well . . . I would keep looking.

Personally, my best use of the least money has been on a Sig SP2022. Probably the cheapest entry into the brand, and mine has been a joy to own and shoot. I did carry it briefly until my LGS got in the Bersa BP9cc I wanted (another great gun, but sort of Glock-like) and would recommend it to anyone.

I personally love CZ.... CZ p07 or the CZ75 are fantastic pistols. They're $400-$500ish. You'll understand when you hold one, the ergonomics are outstanding.

The FNS/X/P are great guns too. I'd go for 9 or 45. Im not a huge 40 fan.

I've heard nothing but good things from RIA 1911's, everyone who has one says they're great. I'm planning on picking one of those up soon, or possibly the Ruger SR1911. Not sure yet. You can also check out the Ruger SR9 and SR45. They're cheaper, like around $300-$350, but they are also of good quality.

If you don't mind grip safeties then XDS 9/45 can be had for $400 if you look around and find a deal. They're great carry guns. I'd go for the 9.

Also anything from Glock and Sig you wont go wrong with.

If you haven't held a CZ though, I strongly recommend checking those out. The p07 is a polymer gun and the classic 75's are metal framed guns. Maybe too big for carry for some people, but I carry my Glock 19 just fine so it wouldn't bother me.

As the owner of both a CZ-75b and 97b I would also encourage you to check out CZ. I've found mine to be 100% reliable, accurate and available at an excellent price point. The 97b is a fairly large package but boy does it shoot! The CZ-75b is ergonomically one of the best feeling autos I have. Cocked and locked or DA, it's your choice. Sure it's all steel and there are lighter options but ounce for ounce and dollar for dollar it's hard to beat.

Here's a photo of my CZ-97b. Like I said, it's no lightweight but you'd be hard pressed to find a softer shooting .45 ACP.
