Recommendation- Next Gun

I have zero experience with CZ handguns, but their rimfire rifles are nothing but top notch in quality and especially accuracy. I'd put my 452 up against an Anschutz any day. I've always heard good things about their handguns too.

For 1911's, IMO the only caliber is .45. I don't own one, but a Series 70 Colt is on my short list and will most likely be my next handgun purchase.

I like that CZ. I'll definitely be taking a look at those.
The CZ75B is an iconic gun for good reasons. The ergonomics are great. Uses the linkless cam ala John M. Browning's HiPower and is a DA pistol that can be safely carried condition one and fired SA. The slides riding internally in the frame with internal frame rails contribute to a better lockup and accuracy. CZ also sell the Kadet conversion allowing easy conversion to .22LR. You can find CZ75Bs for about $400, and Kadet conversions go for about the same new. The CZ75B, the Browning HiPower, the SIG 210, and the VIS Radom are really the only 9mm pistols that interest me.

I just recently got to shoot the Baby DE, I must say, I was surprised. After shooting it, I changed my opinion. For some unknown reason I was prejudice that they should only build Revolvers or .50 AE guns and nothing else. Well, my next purchase will be a Baby DE. The one I shot felt solid, firm and yet smooth. It was what I call a One Hole gun.

1. FNS is similar to what you have like you mentioned.
2. 1911s..not a big fan. I've shot a few over the years, I'd rather have something else. I'm in the minority on this I know.
3. Not a fan of the look of the Baby desert eagle. More for aesthetic reasons then anything else (subjective I know). I always thought the original Desert Eagle looked funny back in the 80s/90s, probably part of my problem.

I've heard many good things about CZ, check those out for sure.

Have you considered a revolver? Ruger SP101/GP100 in 2.25" or 3" in .38/.357? I use a Ruger SR9c to carry but a Ruger Security Six 38/357 (which my dad bought in the 80s) is next to my bed. Big and heavy for concealed carry but still a blast to shoot. Now sure how many S&W fall into your price range offhand.

Thanks for all of the responses and recommendations. Lots of research to do now. That's half the fun for me.

I am thrilled with my Rock Island Armory 1911 GI Fullsize in .45ACP. I put on a 1942 Remington Rand arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop and surplus brown fiber grips. Everyone who shoots it, even experienced 1911 owners, enjoys it. And the extras and customization are half the fun.

Try a Ruger SR9 or SR45. Also, Ruger makes a top notch 1911 that is affordable.

My father in law picked up an SR45 a couple weeks ago. I shot it some this past weekend and was highly impressed. It's a soft shooter and the sights were dead on out of the box. We put about 300rds through it with no problems whatsoever. My dad has an SR9 that I've shot a few times. It's nice also but I definitely like the 45 better.

I can't really say one way or another. I'd like to recommend the Rock Island Armory 1911, but I've yet to hear anything conclusive about their quality. Some say they're good, some say they need work, others say they need to be broken in to get the internals polished for reliability. I don't know one way or another.

If your looking for a carry gun to replace the Shurkd, look no further than a Walther PPS. Amazing little fun that's super accurate right out of the box.

I'd also reccomend, that comes with what nearly everyone considers the best stock trigger made, a Walther PPQ. This gun may be the best value mid sized gun on the market.

Another excellent choice is the Sig P320. It comes in either 9mm or .40 and is fully convertible to those as well as .45 ACP with a conversion kit. Excellent gun by a most excellent gunmaker.

But if I had to buy a gun right now, it would be the Shield 9mm since I need a new CCW gun. LOL!!

Can't go wrong with a Sig! Only problem with a Sig is they will make all your other handguns obsolete!!

The full size P320 is nice. That one keeps popping back up on my radar. I'm not a fan of the subcompact though, it felt way too slide heavy and awkward. Of course there's the Scorpion 1911. I love that gun but it's a little out of my price range right now.

I can't emphasize this enough: try to SHOOT everything you can rent at a range or ranges before you buy. It's small $$ up front to find out what you like before spending big $$ on a purchase. For instance I learned cheap that I don't like sigs or h&k, very high quality but I enjoy 1911s and glocks and my caracal much more. When looking for a compact 45 I rented 6 in one session and that showed me that the g36 was what worked best FOR ME. In 9mm I also like CZ and the iriginal hi-power a lot, but maybe you would love a kahr or a xd, or a ....?

Edited to add: If you try and like the 1911 platform, I can say after buying and modifying 6 from 4 companies that the high standard is a great product cheap if you can find it - they get the parts from RIA then assemble them in Texas. You can find a compact crusader for 450 or so

Springfield is very good too. i haven't tried stock RIA but they have many fans.

I personally love CZ.... CZ p07 or the CZ75 are fantastic pistols. They're $400-$500ish. You'll understand when you hold one, the ergonomics are outstanding.

The FNS/X/P are great guns too. I'd go for 9 or 45. Im not a huge 40 fan.

I've heard nothing but good things from RIA 1911's, everyone who has one says they're great. I'm planning on picking one of those up soon, or possibly the Ruger SR1911. Not sure yet. You can also check out the Ruger SR9 and SR45. They're cheaper, like around $300-$350, but they are also of good quality.

If you don't mind grip safeties then XDS 9/45 can be had for $400 if you look around and find a deal. They're great carry guns. I'd go for the 9.

Also anything from Glock and Sig you wont go wrong with.

If you haven't held a CZ though, I strongly recommend checking those out. The p07 is a polymer gun and the classic 75's are metal framed guns. Maybe too big for carry for some people, but I carry my Glock 19 just fine so it wouldn't bother me.

the CZ 75 B with Omega Trigger is probably one of the 10 [I'd actually boast "5" but I'm biased :D ] finest firearms around. It has a "short height" slide that puts the bore axis very close to the hand. Collectively, being 9 mm + all-steel [heavier construction] + low bore axis + shorter height slide = lends it to being a "lower felt recoil" firearm that is easily controlled in 'strings' of fire.

It's grip is inspired by the Browning Hi Power. It is incredibly ergonomic and an absolute pleasure to shoot.

The Omega trigger version is the 'updated' version of the original CZ 75. It's a 'less complicated' version and is reflected in the [lower] price [than the original CZ 75]. The firearm is a "double action/single action" firearm meaning when you insert the magazine and rack the slide, the firearm is in a 'natural' single action mode. Locking the manual safety lever keeps it in single action until you fire. However, you can manually lower the hammer to its '1/4 cock' position and actuate the manual safety, making the first shot "double action" and all subsequent shots single action. If you are not comfortable with this practice....nor are comfortable carrying it "cocked and locked" - decocker versions are also available.

Being a full-sized handgun [read that as "duty sized"] it's heavier than a Glock 17 but is thinner in width, even with the thumb controls. That lends to an easier concealment because it's less apt to "print" like a thicker firearm does.

The old HiPowers are excellent SA pistols too. Just have to remove thr magazine disconnect for a few reasons, a better trigger being chief among them.

Yeah hi powers are great.

This always happens with these suggestion threads, a ton of great choices. Op best bet is to go rent as many as u can

Did someone say CZ?

Here's mine. I made my own post about it a while ago.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Bertha-my-CZ-Custom-Shop-2013-Accu-shadow-AUZ

It looks a little different now than in the thread above. Different shoes, but the thread goes much more into detail about custom CZs.

Here's what it looks like now except for stainless steel screws. The picture has the stock screws.

and a bonus pic of my brother's not so normal M&P. It now has a match graded, fitted, threaded barrel as well.

EDIT: Oh, and I had nothing but problems with the Jericho 941 (Baby Eagle) I owned. It is well chronicled here: http://www.941forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=482 I documented every single failure over the course of its multiple thousand round life, prior to selling it.

That's odd as that Jericho is little more than a CZ75 copy using Tanfoglio parts who also make their own well respected CZ clone.

I'm well aware of it. I'm convinced that I got a lemon. The 941 was my first hand gun. I bought it because the IDF uses it. I figured if the Israeli Defense Force uses it in a place on earth that has arguably had the most conflict for decades, it must be okay. The 941 left me with such bad taste that I didn't go back to that kind of gun for many years. When I finally decided to try it again, I went with the original, a CZ.

My grail gun is and has always been a Sphinx.
