Hi all,
I guess my flurry of trading on BF has been too smooth these last few months. I was bound to run into a hiccup at the rate I was going. I got a bit careless and let myself get bit on this one.
Perhaps it's too quick to make the call but, looking back at our correspondence I don't think so. I believe and a few other BF members have been scammed by Screwthe49ers.
On one of my trade threads on Nov 30th, I was approached by Screwthe49ers (aka Chris Haworth) via email with a trade list. In hindsight, it's apparent that his email was a "form" that he sent out to multiple BF members. The signs where there, he didn't recall exactly which knives where in my thread, didn't offer up pictures, was a bit pushy to get things done, emails never took a personal tone.
Needless to say the all communication came to stop as soon as I gave him a fedex tracking number. I of course received a dummy tracking number which does not work. I normally pickup on these b/c when you google a non active or recorded # it will at least provide a link to the usps site. This dummy number was apparently not even part of the algorithms so do not directly pull up a usps via google. He had even posted on BF a few days since my inquiry via email. Thus I have no reason to just believe that he has come across any important issue which takes his time away from strolling around the net.
In any case, my personal confirmation that I've been had is hearing from another member that a few other members this week also received non working usps trackings & that a few of us had been promised the same knives.
I generally google screen names in deals & I did so again this time. The screenname, Screwthe49ers, did not seem like a fly by night account. There was content for the name & Chris Haworth for twitter(http://twitter.com/screwthe49ers), tmobile, ebay(http://myworld.ebay.com/screwthe49ers/), knifedogs, knifeforums and andriod. Only ONE feedback on his BF account but given the apparently legitimacy of his account, I mentally said this would be okay.
In any case, it's a bit soon but I just wanted to get the word out that something very fishy is going on here. If any of the other members that have a deal going with Chris Haworth, I hope you'd chime in.
For those of you who might think that I sound a bit "removed" for a person who might have just been scammed, I'm currently out of two knives which total about ~$400. Part of the reason for me going into this trade was to try one knife for myself & give out the other two as gifts.
So what's on my thoughts now? --> What to get those two guys that were getting the knives. That's what.
I'm not about to burden myself this time of the year with another thought on this when I'm needed mentally & physically elsewhere. Nor will I have my bladeforums experience ruined by fearing all transactions. I will still be blindly sending my two sebenzas to two BF members for a try in my own "personally passaround."
In any case, I'm marking myself off as scammed on this one. For the guys and gals on the "good list" this year, have yourselves a great holiday.
