Hi all,
I guess my flurry of trading on BF has been too smooth these last few months. I was bound to run into a hiccup at the rate I was going. I got a bit careless and let myself get bit on this one.

Perhaps it's too quick to make the call but, looking back at our correspondence I don't think so. I believe and a few other BF members have been scammed by Screwthe49ers.

On one of my trade threads on Nov 30th, I was approached by Screwthe49ers (aka Chris Haworth) via email with a trade list. In hindsight, it's apparent that his email was a "form" that he sent out to multiple BF members. The signs where there, he didn't recall exactly which knives where in my thread, didn't offer up pictures, was a bit pushy to get things done, emails never took a personal tone.

Needless to say the all communication came to stop as soon as I gave him a fedex tracking number. I of course received a dummy tracking number which does not work. I normally pickup on these b/c when you google a non active or recorded # it will at least provide a link to the usps site. This dummy number was apparently not even part of the algorithms so do not directly pull up a usps via google. He had even posted on BF a few days since my inquiry via email. Thus I have no reason to just believe that he has come across any important issue which takes his time away from strolling around the net.

In any case, my personal confirmation that I've been had is hearing from another member that a few other members this week also received non working usps trackings & that a few of us had been promised the same knives.

I generally google screen names in deals & I did so again this time. The screenname, Screwthe49ers, did not seem like a fly by night account. There was content for the name & Chris Haworth for twitter(http://twitter.com/screwthe49ers), tmobile, ebay(http://myworld.ebay.com/screwthe49ers/), knifedogs, knifeforums and andriod. Only ONE feedback on his BF account but given the apparently legitimacy of his account, I mentally said this would be okay.

In any case, it's a bit soon but I just wanted to get the word out that something very fishy is going on here. If any of the other members that have a deal going with Chris Haworth, I hope you'd chime in.

For those of you who might think that I sound a bit "removed" for a person who might have just been scammed, I'm currently out of two knives which total about ~$400. Part of the reason for me going into this trade was to try one knife for myself & give out the other two as gifts.
So what's on my thoughts now? --> What to get those two guys that were getting the knives. That's what.

I'm not about to burden myself this time of the year with another thought on this when I'm needed mentally & physically elsewhere. Nor will I have my bladeforums experience ruined by fearing all transactions. I will still be blindly sending my two sebenzas to two BF members for a try in my own "personally passaround."

In any case, I'm marking myself off as scammed on this one. For the guys and gals on the "good list" this year, have yourselves a great holiday.

*12-11-09 EDIT* - My knives have been returned today.

If that's the case, I respect the fact that you don't want to waste any more energy on this dirtbag. However, why don't you list any and all info on him, including email address, so the rest of us don't fall for the same scam.

Sorry this happened to you, hope you have a happy holiday!

I sicerely apologize for any and all that got dragged into this mess with my screen name. All knives that appear at my door are being returned to their owners. This morning 2 packages I found were returned, as well as having the owners shipping cost. This messs refunded via payypal. This mess isn't confined to bf, it extends to other online avenues, as well as other conventional means that scammers plague. I am trying my damndest to make right the situations that everyone is involved in. I simply ask that everyone that I have contacted with information post here to state that they have received their property back.

I am also thinking/planning on doing a raffle fundraiser setup with the cost for a "ticket" being paypalled to, perhaps a mod's account, maybe $1.00 a chance to win a knife a will put up, and the money collected being given to a charity everyone could decide on, via the bladeforums community. Or have it donated to ATKI.......I would in no way profit and may all shipping/insurance costs out of pocket, of course. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to chime in and post here.

Mods, feel free to move this to apprpriate area if applicable.

Hi Chris,
My fedex package was delivered to your door on 12/3/09 @4:30PM. 12/3/09 delivery

I have to say, I am not sure what to make of your post here right now. I have not been contacted by you via email since I since you the tracking number on Dec 1st. Furthermore I might be misreading things but, it does not even seem that your post was addressed to my post. As of this moment, you still have not contacted me with any resolution.

I am withholding any thoughts until further clarification.

Chris, I'm glad you're here to get this worked out.
This is the right place for the discussion.

However, raffles or auctions, even for good causes, have to be approved by Spark. He won't approve any but a very special few for serious causes.

hi one of my packages was delivered to you on 12-3 also see here for confirmation
i also have not been contacted wince i received the 'dummy dc#'

i also am kind of confused by your post. an email reply with what happened or a lil more explanation would be helpful too.

Screwthe49ers did the same exact thing with me. We agreed to make a trade (my RAT 3 and BM 940 for his ZT 302) He gave me a phony tracking number and never shipped my knife. I emailed him yesterday and he replied saying he will return all the knives he received back to their rightful owners. I wonder if he's telling the truth or not.

:confused::confused::confused:

did someone hijack your account and have all these knives shipped to you? i dont think its a problem with your screen name as much as it is a problem with you. do you have a better explanation?

I would advise mr 49ers to make good on his promise. He is guilty of Mail Fraud. He has to this point willfully defrauded several people out of thier Knives using the USPS. Chris, this is a felony punishable up to 15 years in prison and you know what. There was a cork here who is doing time right now because he pulled these stunts here. I cannot remember his psydonym but I know the pirtates nailed his ass to the wall...so ....??

He set up a trade with me, and I had a bad feeling about it so I held off shipping my knives till I recieved his,The DC# he gave me never worked and the knives never came.Plus I see that he offered all the knives he promised me up for trade to 3 other people(I've been monitoring his activity since we talked over a week ago).
I contacted all the members I could who were setting up trades with him, but it was to late.I hope for his sake he makes good on his promise, because if not the athorities will be hearing about it.

Unfortunately if I don't receive my knife from him, I will have to take it up with the authorities also. I don't want to do that. Chris, if you see this just send our knives to us.

Has anyone heard from Chris since this post?Anyone gotton a new DC# for their returned knives, or a shipping cost refund via PayPal.

Chris posted today at 12:20 PM. Not much time to get anything mailed out. Let's see what further information shows up on Monday.

That makes two of us,he needs to explain this.

I had a similar problem with him too. We emailed for about an hour and a half to get a deal straightened out and he had no clue what he had. Just couldn't do it. Seemed funny. Sorry RAT and everyone else this is a scum thing to do and people like this should have their houses foreclosed on and cars repossessed for making payments ON TIME!!! Dude people like you ruin everything for people that just want to trade some knives and have a good conversation.

He has $250. of my property too. He contacted me about a trade so i looked at his profile and he has good ebay feedback so i went ahead and mailed my goods as i promised. Later on i got an email from another member about him being a scammer so i contacted him about it. Sure enough his tracking number is no good .

Hi there, i got a message from another blade forums member saying you were making deals and sending out bad tracking numbers .The tracking number you sent does not register either.I hope for your sake your not a scammer or a thief,"were only a short drive apart" please remember that.I sent you the knives like a promised ,i hope you did the same like you said.

screwthe49ers replied :
Of course I sent the knife like I said. What do you mean the # doesnt work? What is the #? I have a reputation to uphold on bladeforums & I don't appreciate being called a thief.

screwthe49ers sent this ,i dont have a clue what it means:

I just got another email from another bf memebr after reading your email stating basically the same thing. Here is a copy & paste of the reply to the other email:

I'm having issues with my roommate. Really don't want to "air our dirty laundry," but I have a good idea of what may be going on. Give me a little bit to figure out whats going on and whats happened and I will get back to you asap. Please, please, please let me know of anything showing up in the mail before I react irrationally with him. Whatever the case is, I will have either your knives back to you, my knives to you, or the market value of them to you. I'm sorry for you being dragged into this mess and it will be straightened out and righted.

screwthe49ers reply:
If you haven't read my reply to your previous email, please read it first............... ok:

There has been an "issue" with my account here and "dealings" as well as post office errands being "delegated" to "associates" of myself and other stuff too complicated to explain.

Onward: the knives you sent me arrived today. The fiddleback is a lovely knife and I'd be proud to have on my side. The ZT is no slouch either! This pains me as I love your fiddleback so much.

Anyway, I'm shipping your knives back to you tomorrow morning. My post office opens at 8:30am and I'm going to be their 1st customer in line. Your knives are in the same exact condition as they were when you boxed them up, I only opened it to ensure what you sent was in there.

If you would, please give me your paypal address as I would like to refund your shipping costs.

I am quite sorry and please keep this to yourself if you would as I have quite a mess to sort out and its taking sometime.

Johnny, I've had quite a few trades here and this has been the only issue like this that has ever occured. Same thing with my ebay account. I'm not saying I'm going to start a new trade thread like next week or anything or start a for sale thread the week after, I just don't want my name and reputation slandered or anything. All I'm hoping for really, is that when some new guy joins and asks a question, and I reply, I don't want a bunch of replies after mine trashing me. That's all I want.

Talk with you later and I'll have the delivery confirmation number to you as soon as I leave the post office.

I wrote this reply:
Hi chris , sounds like you have some pretty big troubles. I have had people try to scam me before actually .Im not sure whats going with you ,sounds like your claiming someone else is using your account and making deals .Anyway as of now no harm has been done but i would like my knives back in a hurry. You have offered to refund my shipping costs, that wont be neccessary.I would like you to take the extra money I have spent on shipping and get my knives to me next day or the fastest service the USPS offers and we can end this for good .I dont think that is asking too much considering whats going on here.
thanks johnny

screwthe49ers reply:
That's fine with me as far as the shipping goes, I just didn't want you to be out the shipping costs you paid Johnny. I have your knives, they're fine and boxed right back up. I got lucky and I'm glad I intercepted them (hard to explain typing.) Anyway, knives will be off to you like I promised and I'll pay the extra for expedited shipping. They will be back in your hands as fast as the mail will run. Thanks for your patience.

There seem to be others, I'm having a hard time tracking them down. If you run across anyone and something they say sounds familiar, please let them know that any knife that shows up here will be returned to them as well just the same as I'm doing for you.

And this is his last message ,i got it today:
Johnny, your knives have been returned to you via refusal. Postman said I coukd do this and track via the dc# that was originally on there when you shipped to me. Please let me you when you receive. Again, I'm sorry about this whole mess.

-Chris aka screwthe49ers
