Remember when "lock stick" was a good thing?

Pffft, real men use their teeth and manly claws to tear the world into submission.
We laugh at the wintery cold, wearing but mere loincloths to keep our genitals from becoming frostbitten (that's the only anatomical bit that real men care about frost bite on :D).

Dammit, now I need to pawn my broadsword! :D

Edit: Dont you all hate typing on phones. Im grabbing a beer and letting this thread go. All the best to whoever reads[emoji106]

Way ahead of you. On my 4th Belgian White.

I use my knives, sticky titanium liner locks locks and all. Cut stuff that would make some here cringe.

BUT.... If someone else wants a knife that moves like it's on oiled glass, well that's fine with me.

Same if they only open envelopes or post pocket dumps of unused gear..

Don't care.

All of us are weird, strange, nut jobs to most of the "normal" population.

I agree with the OP. all these features usually matter to those who see their knives as toys or jewelry.

What about people that get excited for a blade that "falls down" when folding? I've seen it too many times...

I've seen guys use a wrist-flick on a high-cost folder SO HARD that it took a pair of long-nose pliers to break it loose again.
Operator error, as far as I'm concerned.

"But it hurts my thumbs."
Really? Don't be a wussy, then.
Thanks

I have wanted to respond to this type of comment on several occasions but figured I would offend someone. I agree that alot of men these days are not manly men. Some don't even carry a pocket knife. I blame the government.

So you don't prefer a smooth knife over an annoying one? No offense, but that just sound dumb...

No offense taken.. I was actually making a joke and I don't recall saying that I don't prefer a "Smooth knife".

I just now saw your thread where you state your spydie hole irritated your fingernail. That must be why you got so defensive. Hope things work out for you.

Wasn't there a recent thread on hipsters and knives? This could explain the complaining.

Just joking hipsters

In all seriousness people, myself included at times, have stopped seeing knives as tools and more so as "art," a status symbol, a possession of value.

No offense to the ladies here but men, just in general, are not the same as they were 30 years ago. They spend just as much time on their looks as my mom did before church. Men work less with their hands and are more, of a lack of a better way, feminine.

(Lol. Side note Japan has introduced male curriculum to their students in fear the boys are growing up to soft)

People work less with there hands and thus softer hands. For example there is a thread on how "sharp" Spyderco holes are that just made me cringe.

Then you have a generation or two of spoilt entitled kids who have grown up in 1st world problems

This just my opinion though with a nugget of truth.

Brett, I agree as well. But be careful, you may "offend" someone with all that talk about soft hands and sharp spyderco holes. :grumpy:

Man so many wussies crying about this thread being too full of macho bull. Hey if the testorone flowing in here is too strong you dont have to stay. I have never had problems with lock stick or spydiehole being to sharp. And i think all these people complaining about this thread is exactly who its directed towards and for good reason. Hopefully you wont break any more nails and all manufactures will put bearings and flippers with an opinel style lock for you guys so it will be SOOO SMOOOTH

Ironic, isn't it?

Every single person who got hung up on the joking inadvertently became exactly what the jokes were about.

(another thing that really annoys me is having to spell obvious things out)

Here's the deal:

-This is MY thread. That I created. With MY topic in mind.

-I created MY thread to vent some tongue in cheek annoyance, and allow others to do the same. That is not negativity. That is MY chosen topic.

-Anyone who came into MY thread to tell me what's wrong with it not only missed the point of MY thread, but cluttered it up with crap I don't want in it. That is bad form and makes you look petty.

Yet, while you you were insulting my morals and manners, YOU were butting into a conversation not suited to you. YOU were being rude by doing so. Understand?? I hope so, since that is Basic Manners 101.

Doing this also makes you look illiterate since I actually WROTE INSTRUCTIONS for avoiding this in my OP.

*Facepalm*
Wow.

To spell it out blatantly:
If anyone else wants to post in my thread that I created without looking like a douche, post about a knife trend that annoys you (at your own risk of course).

THAT IS THE PURPOSE OF MY THREAD.

THAT I CREATED.

Dear God, I guess I actually have to say this next part out loud:

IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT IS IN MY THREAD, THEN DON'T POST IN IT.

Especially when my OP (and what I just wrote here) expressly asked you not to!

That is also Basic Manners 101.

Wow. Jesus.

As many have said, this got way out of hand. The fun is over. Well technically the fun never actually started since it was cut off by offended and smart assed people who would rather attempt to "school" a random Internet stranger than have some simple fun.

Guys, if you take the Internet THAT seriously, then I would suggest staying away from the Internet.

I clearly had my expectations set too high here.

That one was my bad, for sure.

I'm most likely done with this one. I usually come here to learn or solve problems, and avoid the "discussions." This was a stark reminder why.

I don't have any problems with operating triadlock but I don't like when ti framelock is very sticky and hard to unlock, because when it's needed in especially wet weather I want close knife fast with one hand and go on. So I'm wussy?

Bladeforums, the largest free online knife forums with 322,000 registered users let you have your own thread, with your own topic, that you own?

Dang, that sounds expensive!

I really don't mind abit of stickiness in the lock. Some of those older cold steel models had super stiff locks, like when the spartan first came out. In truth though doesn't lock stick in frame and liner lock designs (galling) cause accelerated wear? I would think the metal surfaces galling like that would scrape away the titanium on the lock face way faster than some designs where the lock holds the tang well in place but doesn't stick. On some knives with no stick the lock seems very robust and some seem more questionable.

Now on some knives like some of my Emersons there was lock stick at first until the bar wore to a point it now locks and unlocks smoothly but still has amazing lockup. I am not sire if lock stick will typically lead to wearing into such a perfect lockup or it was a lucky fluke but I theorize it might. As the lock face galls and wears away it gets to a point where the titanium has been work hardened and smoothed just to the point where lockstick stops and it now sits snugly against the tang. Maybe...or....maybe not....

It atleast seems to do that sometimes.

Now in some

Since it pertains to the topic, I actually had the same theories as well.

Titanium no doubt DOES wear
faster with all that galling going on. A minus to the titanium vs steel argument. It's why they move so far so quickly, I would guess.

As for the work hardened wearing in, I noticed how quickly titanium will move when it's new, but then settle to a favorite spot and never move again. I had 2 Emersons that came at the same time, with the lock just barely sitting on the tang.

One settled at 75 percent in the first week, but the other settled at like 10 percent even though it's my main carry and I wave the crap out of it and use it hard.

Work hardening is the only explanation I can think of that makes sense in this case, although im sure there are other factors in play I'll never think of.

Interestingly tho, the earlier knife always has some stick, which led me to think it would wear out fast for the reasons we just mentioned. Yet it hasn't moved.

Apparently, according to him - if you don't like lock stick, bleeding fingers, or scraped off fingernails then yes - you are a wussy. As am I. Damn... we're officially wussys...
