Here is the only one I own. I believe it belonged to my grandfather, who died in 1963 or thereabouts, so I think it's pretty old. The model is R363, and if anyone could tell me when it was made, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

Remington stopped making knives in 1940 going into WWII, so they could divert attention back to arms for the war. Interestingly enough, they started making knives after WWI when they needed another avenue to fill resources vacated by the end of that war.

if you describe the round tang stamp... I can help further

These pics rock!!! Question for you guys are the new ones any good as far as users?? I see there 440, are they any good? I have been looking at a trapper and theres alot of these on eslay so just wanted to know how they hold up. Thanks for all the pics.

here's the best pic I could get of the tang stamp. It's a circle, with the words Remington UMC written perpendicular to the length of the blade within it, and Made in USA surrounding it on the outside.

Thanks for the help.

Your tang stamp is more than likely from about 1924-1933. See reference picture attached below

I have a little pioneer... it's a great little knife. It's actually based on the original junior bullet. BUT, there are others on here that could attest to them better than I

Oregon Edge, thanks for the help. that looks like the stamp on my knife, but the type style is a little different, and there are no periods between the USA letters.

there's minor variations but it's the general layout that we're looking at. eg. whether or not the "Made in USA" is there or not, or UMC etc etc.

scattershot,

I believe they all had periods, so yours is most likely worn some and that's why it's not visible. There was also a Remington stamp that was slanted to the right like italicized letters but otherwise as above.

You're right, Blues. I looked at it again with a magnifying glass, and they're there. Faint, but two of them are definitely visible.
Thanks.
BTW, what does the Latin phrase mean? Been looking for it since I saw Lonesome Dove several years ago.

Means something like: A grape changes color (maybe ripens) when it sees (another) grape.
Correct me if Im wrong, my latin is a little rusty

Peter

edit: I was to late ;-)

You weren't too late at all, Peter. I believe your translation is very accurate to the literal translation. However, I'll have to beg OregonEdge's indulgence for this little detour.

This thread will grow in the presence of others who want it to grow.

ha!

Well now, I have read threw this whole thread and I must say that I am more than just a little impressed with all the pocket knives here.. I was going to say that I perhaps I should not post the following fixed blade knife, but after some belabored thought I decided that it was my duty to post this 1930's period item..

Beautiful fixed blade Remington!!! thank you for posting.!

This started as a bullet thread and I have expanded it out to all Remingtons.... and YES, that means yours.:D:thumbup:

Passed on a trade for one at a recent gun show, pining away for it. Trapper with a shotgun shell extractor tool. Saw some nice other ones at other tables, but not enough dough for one. Throw up some pics of yours...;)

Thanks for moving this, this thread is a gold mine. Good thing I'm meeting the guy who had it at the knife club on Monday.
