Here is mine after a good HARD push. I'd call it about perfect.

Can we get a pic of yours at 100%?

Uploading a pic right now. I'll insert it into my initial post.

Does it have play?

No?

Then nothing is wrong. Shallow angle frame locks can do this. The lockbar is a spring. The lockbar will flex and allow it to move over. If there is no play, if the blade stays locked, there is nothing wrong.

Cut something with it and stop staring at the damn thing, or get rid of it for something that has a locking system that is easier to comprehend.

Lets not forget, this is a 200 dollar knife. Do you want to pry your lock bar to close the knife every time you go to use it hard? Enough said.

No one cares about your ZT threads anymore...

No wonder Darrel Ralph banned you. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. Keep that in mind for the rest of you who wish to try and monkey pile this thread.

you might want to take your own advice, you complain at every turn... which isnt saying anything nice at all

Ive been very lucky and the only ZT Framelock ( 0561) that I ever purchased, has been a perfect specimen in every way. And that includes lock up. After hard use it will move to about 50-60%. If it was moving all the way over Id get rid of it and move on to another or something else. As I have with many knives in the past. But do so without a thread such as this. When it just turns into a whole different discussion as always. That said who knows how hard you are pushing on that lock . Id still not be happy either.

I've got an idea. How about someone who says this isn't a problem trade Duro a 0801 that locks up normally. This way Duro gets a knife that he thinks will be better and you get a knife that you don't think has a problem! Everyone wins!

And to add a bit more to the thread, I've got a Kershaw Leek that has this problem, and I don't really trust it. It can be moved over with around a pound or two of pressure. I sent it in to Keshaw as well and receive it back with the same problem, so I just gave up on it and cut my losses.

i have a cb leek blem with that problem, with no up and down movement, and use the proverbial poo out of it daily at work, cutting control arm bushings and strut bushings and trimming plastics and never had a failure. its all about someone being overly picky about being able to force the lock bar over and being unhappy with it. While i can say i understand, I would not publicize like this. I know its a pain sending to kai, as i have done it a few times, but if you call them, explain clearly, and ask if they could provide you a replacement knife, they might just take care of you better. I know several people who have and have ended up quite satisfied. Patience and kindness get you much much farther than complaining and ignorant attitudes(and i dont mean this offensivley, just an observation from someone on the other side of the counter). good luck, im out of this one.

I don't own any ZT's. I don't know Duro or his history. That being said, if I bought any knife that had the issue his ZT has I would return it immediately and request a refund. That a poor showing for a framelock.

Duro--save yourself a headache and stick to the Sebenza.

Mine works fine, and it was much less than $200.

What are you cutting with it that requires you to grip the knife so hard? Maybe work on strengthening your hands so you have enough power to disengage a framelock?

Did KAI have any type of 'reply' or did they just send you a new knife?

Also are you right or left handed?

I have to admit I own a lot of frame locks and you can't move them over as far as duro's pictures are showing. In fact they are all brands, ZT, Spyderco, CR, Kershaw, Strider, Galyean Pro, and the only one I can force over that far is a cheaper Kershaw all steel. It's been used a good deal too.It is solid though, as much as it was new. The rest mostly move very little, or not at all when pushed in. I don't have a 0801, but it does look like the blade's locking surface is cut a lot straighter than any of mine. Maybe that and if tolerances aren't exactly spot on causes it?

KAI is pleasing me. I'd be happy to note that prior to sending my 0801 into repair, I put a nice edge on the blade, as I did not initially plan on returning the knife. Someone in warranty took note of this and put a nice polished edge on my replacement 0801. That tells me they're putting some thought into each warranty repair.

It would be so hilarious if they just sent you back the same knife...

Part of it is because of the steel lockbar insert since there is no galling/sticking like there is with titanium.

I have steel inserts on my ZT's, Spydercos, LionSteel, and they don't move under finger pressure.

I would not be happy with that amount of lock travel either, I'd return it and get my money back. As for Duro's constant problems with anything from Kai, dude quit buying them. Get a spyderco or something else your never gonna be happy with zt or kersaw.

If Darrel Ralph was right in banning me (which he clearly wasn't since I was promptly unbanned) then KAI Corp would have been more than justified banning you months ago...

I had ACTUAL quality issues that went unanswered by Darrel/HTM as opposed to some of your imaginary issues where KAI bent over backwards to try and help you.

Why is this thread still open? Sounds like a whine and cheese thread. Can we close this or should I start bitching?

The two 0801's that I've checked out exhibit this same behavior.

And every time you check one out , you exhibit the same behavior. When I check them out and the lock bar can be pushed all the way over, I exhibit a completely different behavior than you. I am so confused. I think the knives are fine and we are flawed. :D
