Bad Reporting “Retired01” for Scamming

John, I understand your opinion on this matter. I know where you are coming from and I cannot say I fully disagree with most of it. The primary issue is that new folks need to take proactive steps on their own to be safe. We have members listing things for sale in the discussion forums, members starting full blown conversations in a sales thread, people interfering with a sales thread instead of reporting it, people asking for the value of an item without the right membership, etc. Lots of things that should not be, but they are.

There are dozens of threads about this topic of how to pay using Paypal when it comes to buying from friends and such. There is a a majority of the members here that will not use the F&F option, and only use G&S. I take more of an issue when people try and pass off the fees to the buyer, that to me is a bigger slap in the face to a buyer than the F&F option. I still buy things in the Exchange and have not sold anything in a long time. I ignore the members that ask buyers to "add 3%" or whatever, the same goes for the "net to me". I say, I don't need to complicate things if someone is being clear from the get-go.

Likewise RD, I also agree, & completely understand where you're coming from. Hell, if I volunteered my valuable time here as a Moderator, and had to put up with half the crap that you guys do (on a daily basis); I would've had a melt down, & been banned a long time ago! :D

It's just that the newer people here; that one's who come on here and are learning to navigate this massive forum, all while going through the learning curve- it's so easy for these newbie's to see their grail knife and throw all caution to the wind, then have their first buying experience here, a negative one.

This specific thread, involving yet another transaction/thread with this indignant seller, got me a little extra fired up.

Caveat to the above-I'm in no way second guessing @RevDevil or @Esav Benyamin or any mod concerning his banning or not. I do think a sticky is warranted at this point though at least

^ Or considering his history and attitude: The Hall Of Shame!

Just fyi - F&F is not supposed to be used as payment for goods, even on a sale between friends and family. It is a free service offered by PayPal for the transmission of funds between friends and family. Any sale of goods is supposed to be paid for with G&S. Failing to use G&S in any sales transaction is theft of PayPal's service. Rationalize it however you like, but if you do it, you're a thief.

Some members have wondered why Retired01 is often allowed to run roughshod through the forums, in his flamboyant fashion. Since there is no obvious answer, one could only speculate. I'm guessing that the BF management knows him much better than than we do, who judge only by his forum persona. He probably has an inner circle of friends and old forum members that respect him, and who know more about his true character, than we will ever know. Considering his controlling behavior, it's even possible that he was some kind of respected military person, or influential political liaison. It does seem that he is granted a certain "artistic freedom" of expression, here on the forums. Anyway, there is often more to people, than just what we get from the random impressions of each other, on the internet.

Why the hell are people using friends and family to pay for an item? Is the seller your cousin? Is he a friend that needs emergency cash or are you giving him a birthday gift of cash? This kind of foolishness bewilders me still. The buyer and seller need to work this out on their own. It's getting to the point where someone is going to get a vacation from the Exchange for a while.

Guys, I am nobody's daddy here and don't want to be. But as RevDevil has said, among-st a ton of other folks here, why would anyone do F&F unless this is the case in which is highly doubtful for most of us. Anyone that has enough money to buy and sell knives on BF, regardless if its a $30.00 or $300.00 has enough to pay the small fee for a secure transaction. Do what you may but be prepared for the fallout when you least expect it:rolleyes:

FWIW - and coming from me, it ain't worth much - I wish mods would cruise the forum, and delete any "For Sale" in which the terms "friends and family" is cast in a memorable light. Remember, it's not friends and family; it's ... well, crap, I can't it on such family-oriented forum.

It's Integrity which can't be enforced with rules.

"Friends and Family" and "Paying a Maker in Advance" are 2 of the most common real problems that are easily avoided.

I guess we are missing the point here...because F&F is an option that doesn't mean people should do FRAUD. Yes it makes fraud easier but the main point is the act of scamming or fraud. We had mutual agreement to do a transaction, that is written by several emails exchange between me and Retired01. The problem here is not the payment method, it is the act of receiving money and not sending the merchandise.
I already know that I should not do F&F anymore and I will not.

Thanks again for all of your comments.
