Requesting Gareth Bull Shamwari Advice

I agree and love my Shamwari. It’s kind of scarey knowing if something goes wrong I am basically left high and dry. The guy simply doesn’t communicate.

@Frunkey I honestly wish he would pass the design of if not his Shamwari then atleast his Warlock to a company like WE or Reate so everyone could get his designs easily if they want. I never see him making warlocks anymore but it is so close to the Shamwari I think production Warlocks would serve the community who want to try GB designs while still leaving his flagship shamwari exclusive to him.

Gareth Bull Warlock.

Mr. Lapedog, first of all I love the knife it is beautiful. I think as of now it seems to me at least that Gareth Bull is very willing to do work on your knife when it needs now. I’d recommend contacting him via Instagram private message if you have one. He has been very responsive and seems genuine. I will let you know how my service goes when I’m finished if you care to know. I think with a knife like this it is important to know it will be taken care of.

If you ever do get the Gareth, please feel free to shove it...................
I do want to apologize, my initial response to you a while back was poorly worded and the tone was truly that of an ass. I mean no disrespect and at that time I was looking to answer a different question that what you answered. I should have worded it differently and now that it’s been some time and the thread has grown I actually appreciate the info you gave me more than the info I was looking for initially. It gave me info I needed to consider before making a big decision on a purchase. I know apologies really never make up for anything just like resharpening a deeply chipped knife blade doesn’t really fix the problem. So, I thank you for your info that I was too ignorant to even know was more important than my question.

This is how it starts... Contacted him. Says a short time to fix. He gets it and replies then silence You send multiple messages without response. But if you use a new email or ig account he'll respond.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes. I'm assuming you shared this thread with him? He may follow up on his promises if so.

I will see what happens and share for sure. As far as sharing the thread, that just seemed tacky to me. Not that I’m important or this thread matters but I wouldn’t want to influence him to do anything different than he normally does now. I’m willing to risk it to be able to give a true real update on his customer service for all of us.

No need for an apology to me as I had not responded to your inquiry and was just taking issue with your response to others. That being said many of us (me included) at times have posted things that we should not have, but making an honest apology shows a lot more about a person then something they may have posted quickly with out a lot of thought.

Thank you, I was simply ignorant to some aspects I now am beginning to understand.

I have 4 Shamwari's I've purchased from Gareth. Both in dealing directly with him and participating in the "drops" where the knives are basically gone in one second. I would have no hesitation to say if you can grab one during one of his drops, do it. The knives are amazing. Dealing directly with Gareth is not always possible, and he can be a bit flakey. I chalk it up to creative types.

There's an ugly side to his past history as evidenced here, as well as some stories I've heard just recently - through a well respected SA maker. For now, these are just stories. There's a lot of knife makers who make great knives, but lousy businessmen. It seems with his new system, he's eliminated a lot of issues by making "X" amount of knives, and selling them. He still does customs for people, but you need to be one of the chosen few. Bottom line, you'll have zero issue if somehow you're lucky enough to grab a GB via one of his IG drops, but the odds have gotten far worse in the past 6 months. Just expect it will take between 2 and 3 weeks to receive it.

Would you ever consider letting one of those go? I've been trying forever

Wait another 6-9 months and buy his budget line offering he’s focused on. I don’t know what your collection holds, but selling off all your knives is funny. I’ve owned 2 of his knives and IMO they’re not grails (although for years I convinced myself they were). I no longer have the two, but I do have 5 Burgers and 3 Des Horns and those are some awesome SA knifemakers to behold. Choose wisely

Clarification: his knives are cool and have improved big time, don’t get me wrong. His design(s) is/are most compelling.

Henry Kissinger on the subject of academia, “The reason that university politics is so vicious is because stakes are so small.” Making money by making making knives by hand has to be a tough business to make a living at.

LOL, I didn't see this until I got another notification (the one just above).
I sold the 3" blue Ti to 7redi (youtube reviewer) and regret doing so. It was essentially perfect, I probably should have sold my 3" zirc version. The machining (texture) on that one is a bit uneven height-wise, and there is some staining on the Ti, which I might be able to get rid of with an acid bath. Ah well, the new owner is delighted. That still leaves me a textured 3", a smooth 3.5" and a 3" liner lock. I saw that a friend just got his custom order after I think getting close to 2 years, and it's beautiful. Anyway, I've been offered insane amounts on these - TBH my conscience wouldn't allow it. I'm hanging on to the other 3 for the time being. If GB could get his act together he could be getting a lot more out the door than he does, but honestly he's already asking top-dollar. I certainly don't think they're worth what the secondary market is asking. I'd agree with loon#r here - they're simply not grail status knives. But I still love them - and use my first 3" frequently.

Wonderful designs. But he is extremely difficult to deal with.
Just goes dark and won't communicate.
He would do his customers and himself a favor if he had WE Knives make his designs.

Except if there were a warranty issue and he was the point man for it.

Why would he be the "point man" for a knife made by WE?
Nevermind, my point is that he could save himself and his customers a lot of grief if he turned production over to WE.
He obviously can't keep up with demand or even with communicating with people.

because all the massdrop knives goto massdrop for warranty. All the vdk knives goto vdk for warranty. All the etc goto etc.

I mean unless they have it where they goto the USA warranty rep. Or if I'm mistaken.

Yes, that's an issue for people who buy knives from MassDrop.
It has nothing to do with my point here. And wouldn't be an issue at all if WE services the knives it makes. Last I checked, WE has a warranty presence in the US.

I don't think you understand. There are knives that are. Bought and sold through we knives and there are some that are sold from makers. I guess you'd call it private label. For instance vdk knives, massdrop and a few others. They are the ones who get to warranty them. If it's not private label then the main warranty guy gets them for that region. So I guess it would depend on how if at all Mr bull decides to do it.

Again, nothing to do with my suggestion and farther and farther afield from the rest of the discussion.

you said this. And so I elaborated there are two ways to do it. And that if it were private label it would be in the same problem. that is all. Thanks for understanding. Indeed you did not say anything otherwise. I understood you just fine. I was just adding to the suggestion that could happen.
