I'll describe the situation as briefly as possible.

A couple years ago, when I was an active member of Ramanon, Hollowdweller (HD) ran a contest to see who could make the most posts to "The Great Outdoors" section during a specified time period. The prize was a Reeves double bit hatchet styled al la Nessmuk. I won the hatchet and was very pleased with it.

Later I left Ramanon and began hanging out on "Southern Rule". SR was a struggling forum and I decided to offer the Reeves hatchet to who ever made the most posts to the SR outdoor section during a six month period. My goal was to help build up the new forum. Shortly, a few weeks after I began the contest, Southern Rule went off the air abruptly. Only two people had responded to my contest, one who's name I could not remember and Ilbruche, who made about six posts.

After SR failed HD recommended that I try out "Wilderness and Survival Skills" on BF. Soon I became a regular. I bought a Rambo IV knife that I thought had potential despite its shoddy workmanship. I approached Andy (Fiddleback) about replacing the leather wrapped handle with wooden grips, and he suggested I contact Ilbruche (Bruce Carpenter, PO Box 3074, ELDORADO SPRG, Colorado 80025-3074). Coincidentally, about the same time Bruce contacted me and asked jokingly "how he was gonna get his prize from SR" now that they had shut down. (SR had shut down a few weeks after I began my 6 month contest.) I told bruche about my RIV project and he offered to do the job in exchange for the Reeves Hatchet. I said "Okay" and shipped the Reeves and the RIV to him in June 2008. That was ten months ago, and despite a series of increasingly impatient email exchanges, I still have not seen either implement.

Clearly, at this late date, I believe bruche should either return both the RIV and the Reeves, or give me a hard date on which I can expect shipment of the re-handled RIV. No more excuses please.

Incidentally, bruche has posted pics of the Reeves on BF and, at one point, jokingly asked Mr. HD if he recognized it. I believe HD was puzzled.

Here's a copy of the last PM sent to Ilbruche on BF:

Hey Bruce, how's it going? I'm beginning to worry that I will never see that RIV again. (4/1/09)

Bill

sounds like the work is being done.

i dont think it unreasonable to ask for a hard date, but have you done that other than in this thread?

I sent the following email on 4/15/09:

Bruce,

Can you tell me the current status on the RIV. I would like to have this blade back within a reasonable amount of time.

Bill (HDW)

The last communication I have had from bruche was received about mid Jan09:

Hey man. Cold weather has kept me out of the workshed.

But I got the scales cut...pin holes drilled and pins cut.

Just need to shape the ends of the scales before I can glue it up. Hopefully get to work on it this weekend.

That message sounds encouraging, but it was received over three months ago. So I have been asking for "status" w/o success for 3 months.

in your first post here, you dated a pm 4-1-09.

is the pm below it in red not a response to that pm?

No. The red is the message I was responding to and the blue beneath that is the email bruche was responding to. When you respond to a PM only the date of the response is preserved.

However, I checked my inbox and found bruches original communication, which was received 12/01/08. Here is a direct copy:

I actually sent it end of last week to my brother so he can flatten the tang for me since I don't have the tools to do it properly. When I get it back it will take a week to get the scales and everything done.

ok, that was a bit confusing. i thought he was responding to your 4-1 pm there.

if he is posting here semi-regularly, especially since the last comm in dec, your complaints appear warranted.

hopefully he sees this thread and can provide some explanation.

Thanks, I realize the dates were kinda confusing. It took me awhile to straighten things out myself.

Bruce is a stand up guy. I am sorry for your situation. I am sure he has a reason for this. He has made quite a few sheaths and knives for me and has always come through. I am sure he will take care of you.

That was always my impression. He is certainly an artist and a craftsman. I hope you are right about him coming through. I would not have sent the Reeves in advance of the work if I had not trusted him.

Hey Bill,

I have had about a dozen or so dealings with Bruce (ilbruche), he is not a con man and will definately complete your knife.

I just emailed him to inform him about this thread, so he sholud be around soon.

Take care,

Tony

Thanks Tony. I would love to clear the record on this one. Bruce should be aware that I just ran out of patience. No hard feelings if we can settle soon.

I did real good by Bruce a while back. He treated me very honorably. Bill (HDW) is also VERY good to do business with. I think this should sort out okay.

Thank you sir. In addition to my favorable reviews at BF, I have a record of 218 transactions on eBay with 100% favorable reviews going all the way back to Dec. 13, 2004. To check the reviews go to:

http://myworld.ebay.com/highdesertwalker

and select "See all".

Alternately, just go directly to:

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...ighdesertwalker&ftab=AllFeedback&myworld=true

I think that will also work.

He hasn't been on Bladeforums for almost a month.

I don't know how to determine the last time he was on BF unless I happen to see him on the active log. But the last post he made to BF was on 2/05/09.

As far as I can tell he most recently posted to a knife forum on Ramanon on 4/15/09.

But there is no doubt that he is aware of this complaint. Several former customers have stated that they will notify him, and I also emailed the complaint to him. I believe that the issue now is not whether or not he has seen the complaint, but whether or not he intends to respond.

If you want to be able to check when the last time someone was on Bladeforums, go to their profile and look right under their user name. It will say - Last activity: and then will state the last time they were here.

I agree that it's unlikely that he doesn't know all about this thread. Hopefully he will make an appearance soon so that he can let you know when this is going to be taken care of.

Thanks KM. That tip will come in handy.

Hope Bruce realizes how bad it looks to hide from a legitimate complaint that has been filed against him publicly. Come on bro, be a man. Let's clear up this matter and both move on with our lives.

It has been 1 day since your post here. Give the man some time to respond.

It's been a long time from the beginning bro. But, yes, I am being impatient about his response to GBU.

Agreed.

Bill,

Let it ride a while. The ball is clearly in his court now.

Speaking from experience, often times its the things we don't say and assume about others that speaks the loudest for our case and good character.
