Report is that they had to remove a length of intestine, but the surgery was successful.
He will likely need a few days before he's up to responding to anyone much.

Smoke and Prayer ongoing for gentle healing.
 
I had similar surgery for Chron's back in 2001, and it sucks the life out of one's body. It was about a week before I could even move and could only speak a few words on the phone and they had to use the thumper to restart my heart due to the complications caused by the underlying infection. I had a length of large and small bowel removed and ended up having to live with the colostomy bag for life. Hopefully Richard will be able to have a temporary one, they are difficult to deal with and very expensive. Sending my prayers and thoughts to Richard and will call him on the phone in a few days
 
PB I sent you his zip! I also will be sending a card with something to help RJ out! I believe his income is his sharpening and hes not sharpening and im sure the bills are still comin in so id like to help him out! I havent heard from him but as soon as I do I will let you guys know!! RJ get well soon I have steel that needs your expertise!!

True. He is pretty dopey sounding and very soft spoken. Actually, it's a bit tough to understand him.

But it seems the surgery went as well as expected.

I was able to look up the zip and get the card out. Thank you though! I sent what I could, I know every little bit helps, especially now.

Richard really is such a good and decent guy. I know all the support and well wishes he is getting from his BFC family has to be helping a lot.

Karda, Unit, thank you and everyone for the updates. I've been checking the thread for news. Great to hear surgery went well and Richard is ok. I understand recovery can take a while but this is good news indeed.

Richard, get well soon bro! We're all hoping and prying for your speedy recovery!

Spoke with Richard tonight! He sounded very tired! About all he could muster was "I need to rest". So I said rest up buddy call me when youre up to it. He did say hes doing ok but will be in the hospital for a bit. Maybe he will call me tomorrow and i will get more details. Im just hoping this surgery took care of things and there aren't any further complications. I cant imagine what the hospital bills gonna be!! God I hope he has good insurance!!! If anyone would like to send him a card PM me and I will get you contact info! Get better RJ, I have steel that needs your attention!! :)

Recovery after any major surgery is tough. I just hope Richard is feeling better today.

I just talked with him. He sounds a lot better. He is hoping to escape the hospital sometime this week. He wants phone calls so don't hesitate to call anytime before 10pm eastern time.

I spoke with Richard today and he is feeling stronger and should be going home soon in the next few days. He sounded clear and coherant, I had cut it short as the nurse came in to remove the stomach pump hose from his nose- that is a good sign of recovery.
 
Yeah having a nose tube is anything but pleasant!! You wanna just yank it out! It is not fun! It is a good sign that they removed that and that he is sounding better and getting strength back!! But then again im no doc! I hope this surgery is all he needs and there are no other complications or more needed care! Im sure RJ is missing his "WHEELS" and cant get back to doing what he loves! I can't wait for him to get back to spinning his wheels as I have a few knives that need some killer RJ convex edges on them!! I was gonna send them to another guy to do for me but its almost like havin a good barber. I have been going to the same barber for like 12 yrs and won't let anyone else touch my hair other than my Tommy. So I guess I feel that way about my knives as well. Richards just done so many knives for me and I ve never ever had one issue at all with his work!! He is a master at his craft! His edges are simply amazing!! And im a picky guy. Nothing but perfection for me, so I go over my knives and edges with a microscope! I guess what I am getting at is RJ get better man so you can sharpen my freakin steel for me!!! :D
 
stoped in to see richard. he looks like heck, but he always was a ugly sight,lol..they got him on iv feed drip only & are planning on givein anti-biotics by pill. he's pissin up a storm & whinin just as much. but in his defence, hospital food SUCKS!!!! nurse was telling him his doc. thinks he will boot him friday[ 4/19]. he's still thinkin he will be able to get back to work maybe in a week. just wont be the quick turn around he usaly does. i think he just doesn't know how much a toll this has & will still take on him. but atleast he'll be home so he can drive me crazy,, or crazyer!!

Might have to take up a collection to build him a decent computer. That 10 year old stuff just ain't working out for him. I talked to him on Monday, told him about adding Linux as a secondary OS to his computer. Fix it up Frosty
