Rick Hinderer Knives Picture Thread

Not at tie time, no. We should be getting 50 cal operations moved and put up by the end of the year though. That will be interesting!

^^^ Oh heck yeah!! Those are some beasts of a round! Then you can catch some photos with your beast of a knife(XM-24) next to them :D

Ha, I'll take a couple later. I got a few rounds :) I have some cut in half which is pretty cool also. I'll get some up this afternoon.

Someday my photo skills will improve, I promise! When I find the half-shells, I'll snap some pics as well. Not sure where they are right now.

N2K, I do indeed! I believe I have seen the shirt somewhere here...

Jensen, Slicers are all I have now! And I'm not complaining! I love having slicers. Especially this new 3"! I still haven't got the flipper down yet, I'm not sure what's going on exactly. Detent's fine, got just the right amount of oil on it as well. Even a real tiny dot of grease in the detent hole for smooth detent ball travel. Guess it'll just take time. Usually I know how to fix my past/present xm's to where it takes about a day of flipper to get down. Maybe it's the weight of the smaller blade or tightness of the lock bar. Haven't figured it out yet!

The 3" is definitely the most difficult to open with the flipper and no wrist action. The flipper is short and the blade is light. In contrast to the XM-24 for example.

Yes, I'll have to keep playing around with it and see what I can figure out. It's all part of the fun for me.

Have you tried the bit of forward fingertip pressure on the flipper to sort of pre-load it before flipping the knife open?

I ask because if, by chance, you are holding this little guy and gripping the lockbar area a bit firmly, the pre-load method of flipping should overcome and work reliably.

Yes, I actually do that method with almost all my flippers past and present. And I trained myself a long time ago to never put pressure on the lockbar. Thanks for the tip though, those are some of my first tips I give to people trying flippers out for the first time. You can, however, help me out with your Ti scale! ;) kidding, but serious too.

Ironically my 3" prod spanto flips smoother and snappier than any of my 3.5s while my 3" DLC slicer is the absolute worst flipper of my XMs. One of the reasons I've never been able to part with the 3" spanto is how satisfying it is to play with..

^^ Haha! My bad! :D Yes some good ol' shiny brass is always a good sight. Reloading is the way to go! The setup cost is a little painful, but pays for it self nicely over time :)

I used to shoot a LOT more than I have in recent years, my last couple of moves and deployments have kept the Dillon in storage and most of my guns at my Dad's house. Up until the past couple of months I really haven't pulled the trigger much at all for fun except for deployment prep range time.. When we were shooting for fun I'd mostly put together .45 ACP for our comp shoots (and tuned rifle loads for hunting), I don't remember the exact figures but once upon a time I did the math and concluded that the saving due to reloading more than paid for the equipment in terms of comparable factory ammo cost.. Ironically, I also once vowed to never reload 9mm or .223 since it was so plentiful and cheap - that is sadly no longer the case..

Love the pics of XMs and ammo so I wanted to join in! I'll admit I got a bit carried away as I was grabbing stuff off the shelf in my office to put together this composition.. :o

Then I though, hey this would be cool in B&W..

Hmm, apparently I need to clean the lens and/or camera sensor judging by the dark spot on the blade of the top spanto.. (too lazy to retake the pic)..

Edit - so I just showed these pics to my wife because, hey _I_ think they're cool.. Her response? "You're a dork".. Sadly, she knows me too well..

Nice photo^^^. I'll withhold all other words and just compliment the image.

@prelude: one last thing to try...out of curiosity...do you (when reassembling the pivot) press the nut in toward the knife or let it naturally be pulled in as you tighten the screw? If you only did it one way so far, try the other and see if any difference presents itself.

Thanks, but now I'm intrigued :)

Thanks n2k. I just disassembled the knife completely, and cleaning/lubing it up once again. I think one of my problems is the female pivot end is spinning with the blade when it moves. But if I tighten it too tight the blade is...well unflippable. Lol
