Rick Hinderer Knives Picture Thread

I am just in AWE of the absolute perfection of Rick's hand ground blades. Look at that line!!!!!! It reminds me of the japanese artist who was asked by the Emperor to prove that he was good enough to paint the Emperor's portrait. The artist asked for a brush, ink and a large sheet of paper and with one fluid motion drew a perfect circle on the paper as tall he he was. Rick exemplifies that level of artistry in his grinds. And while it's a honor to carry around one of his production knives (and so looking forward to getting back my Gen 1 with it's RH hand ground blade) I hope that one day I will be able to afford and obtain one of his masterpiece customs. I need to start attending more knife shows.

Honestly, there are so many other makers out there that produce knives that I would like to have, that I would be content for a while if I could only get one more Hinderer. And it would be custom. You said why. I love the customs. All of them. And then one day, if I get rich or just have a lot more money, I'll come back and start hoarding Hinderers. But then, there would be so many people unable to enjoy them cause I had them all. hmmmm. THats a dilemma.

Is the CF thinner than G10? It looks like the pivot stands a bit more proud than usual.

That's a very astute observation cap!!! You are correct. At first I thought I had done something wrong but then I compared the 2 scales and the countersinking on the CF scale is not as deep as the G10. See pic below.

@ Maprik: That smooth CF scale must be off spec, the screws should be flush and the pivot screw almost flush.

For the collectors, anyone notice the small difference between these 2 pivot screws ;) ?

Keep in mind that Maprik's knife is a 3" XM-18, my 3" with carbon fiber scale is quite similar to Maprik's knife whereas my 3.5" and 4.0" XMs have deeper recesses for the pivot/standoff screws.

The Gen. 4 Hellfire has a Gen.2 pivot screw, its slightly domed like on this one

Domed pivot screw? I'll have to look at all of my generations closer but I don't believe any of them have domed pivot screws. That Gen 2 XM-18 3.5" sure is nice though.

Hi Rich, it really surprises me that the screws and pivot stick out on the 3" CF scales, I never had a 3" CF scale to check it, so I believe you on your word.

BTW: If you look closely you see a little edge on the Gen.2 pivot screw. My Gen.4 Hellfire pivot screw got a bit scratched when the scale was changed and it was replaced with a Gen.2 pivot screw :)

That Gen.2 is one of my favorites, thanks ! Here is the other side:
