Rick Menefee Knives...

I'd never heard of Rick Menefee before browsing these forums.

His knives caught my eye before his name registered; they are striking indeed, and always look so finished. I love their solid smoothness. At least, that's what I've gathered they have, solely by the pictures. Should I ever get to hold one, I might be in trou-ble. Kudos to all of you who own one of his knives!

Todd the proto trapper looks great! What makes it a prototype has Rick not done that pattern before? Also what's the scale material...wait...don't tell me...ivory? ;) :D

Nathan

I'm not Todd but i'm certain the scales are ivory, most likely elephant. (i have seen some mammoth that was all off-white very like the elephant 'stuff')
Pert. Rick's knives are excellent in every aspect. His blades are beautifully ground and always arrive shaving sharp. (note: this is often not the case with quite a few other custom knifemakers). His prices are a bargain for this high level of skilled workmanship. The Micarta handled, shadow(no bolsters) patterns can be picked up on occasion in the Custom Knives For Sale forum here, for a very reasonable amount of money. But you have to act fast, they rarely last long.

I got this 3 5/8 front pocket from Rick yesterday. D2 blade, green canvas scales, bollocks shield. The grinds are beautiful, and it disappears in the pocket. If anyone is thinking of getting on Rick's list and hesitating, don't. He's a great guy, and he does great work for a reasonable price.

How do you contact him? I have been sending e mails on this forum for a while. Mabey three to four times. I really want to get on his list. I have one I got from Vince and it is one of my favorites. Any help?

There does not appear to be any way to privately contact you.
He may have tried to respond.
You could PM or email most of the posters in this thread, including Vince.

Here are my 6 Magnificent Menefee folders. I did have a 7th but it is now with my daughter who lives in Italy.

3 5/8" Front Pocket & 4" Norfolk Jack

4 1/8" Western Trapper with African Blackwood scales & 3 3/4" Lanny's Clip

My 30 yr. old daughter, E., came to visit her dear old dad for Christmas. She likes knives, so i got out all of my Custom Folders and said she could pick whichever one she wanted. E. carefully began to pick up, open and hold the 45 or so knives, one at a time. As soon as she held the Menefee 3 3/4" Dogleg Jack with it's big Spear Point blade & natural brown Micarta handles, she said "This one". When i suggested that there were many other fine knives to check before deciding, she said, "No. This one somehow speaks to me. This is The One". Wow ! my little bunners talking like a true knifer.
E. is working with a group of other scientists trying to improve survival rates in avalanche victims. Some of her work is on touring skis high in the Italian Alps in avalanche start zones. Carrying a sharp folder that is pinchable with gloves on just might come in handy, even if only for cutting up an apple to share at 12,000 feet. So Rick your knives are getting around.

Roland, I'm glad there's another Menefee knife in my country.
Maybe someday another Menefee made knife will made it to this part of the world...and possibly into my hands and pocket ;)

Roland, those micarta knives are really beautiful I particularly admire the Zulu in Nat Micarta. Just shows how mellow a scale material it can be, but tough!

I suppose his waiting list is an eternity, sigh!

Your daughter is doing sterling work for sure.

Regards, Will

Oh, that one is nice, Jason. Is it Rick's usual 154CM, or did you twist his arm and get him to make it out of D2?

Wow, that one looks Nice !! And it's one of Rick's patterns i don't have. 4 1/2", pretty big knife too, just at the upper limit for pocket carry. But pocket or belt, i bet this one can cut with the strength of a FB and sharpness of a razor.
NICE ONE RICKY !
roland

Edit to add: The blades are about the best 2 i've ever seen in a 2 blade Jack, a really nice long clip and more of a "Menefee Butcher Blade" for the secondary, than a spey. That's an improvement for the vast masses of us who don't de-nut livestock.
