RICKYHAWK: Took 36 days!! to receive the knife... with help from Good/Bad/Ugly Thread

I know I'm going to make a better effort to leave honest feedback, though I must admit I only had one less than positive case and I left neutral feedback (I should have left a huge flaming negative), that member has now been banned.

Wow that is messed up. And to think I felt horrible that it took me ten days to ship a knife to budokite. Keep in mind that I don't even have a car and don't live within walking distance to a post office.

Rickyhawk definitely should refund the money or ship you the knife ASAP, with tracking. A public explanation would also be nice, seeing as how we are all incredibly confused and trashing his reputation (justifiably though) here on bladeforums. In lieu of these events, should Rickyhawk decide to try to buy one of the knives I put up (he has bought one from me, almost two), I'll be sure to let him know no more knives until his deal with you is settled.

That said, I hope Rickyhawk is doing ok and all of this gets resolved quickly.

This is a pet peeve of mine. It may sound harsh, but I think everyone who had bad dealings with Ricky and never left any kind of feedback about it is partly responsible for your loss. We have an obligation here as a commuity to look out for each other and if I fail to warn others about troublesome dealings with a member, I have let everyone down.

If you were driving down the road to a bridge and found the bridge washed out when you got there, would you just turn your car down the road, or would you alert the friends that you knew were following behind you that there was danger ahead?

I hear you on this..sometimes I place great feedback, but of lately I havent placed any after buying quite a few knives-these have been of sellers who I have bought off before and have always placed good feedback-we all know where we stand...which is in a good place.
THE REASON as to why I didnt give a bad feedback in this case , is because I took his word for the reasons of delay-and boy...there was delay believe me...I feared that I did loose out, but in the end the knives came through...so I couldnt leave a bad feedback-because I gave him leeway for his reasons of delay which involved family. So in the end I got my knives, I didnt leave feedback because I wasnt too happy with the delay, but left it alone because I wasnt able to confirm or otherwise his reasons for the delay, and I think it would have been pretty poor of me to leave bad feedback, and yet to have received the knives, when he could have been going through a tough time.
I am not taking ANY responsibility of any one else's loss in this case, as I received the knives, and I will always readily accept responsibility if I have done wrong, not in this case, as I acted responsibly, I received my knives I gave my input here to help put forward my part to complete a picture of dealings with the seller involved, and felt that my input was needed.

If he has time to sell a knife he has time to ship it too. Even if someone has been knocking off relatives one by one this doesn't change.

I think they are just trying to get over. What other reason could they have? They have the money and now they won't ship? Pretty clear to me.

I hear these stories all the time about the seller lagging. They always end up shipping the item eventually, but for whatever reason they just keep lagging.

I'm not sure how you can use the word "always"... that isn't logical.

Personally, with nearly a month lag, I think that deserves at best a "Neutral" rating in the feedback section, if not a full blown "Negative", even if I DO actually RECEIVE the knife.

As "the" person on the other end of "Slow" delivery, I can tell you that I now begin to wonder if
  • Ricky has the knife at all or
  • he sold it on eBay while I wasn't watching or
  • he traded it to someone since he already had my money.
In other words, when people drop off the radar and stop communicating, you have no idea what's up....which feels like fraud until proven otherwise.

Just this morning, I got another PM from a forumite saying they also had similar slow performance from Ricky.

I'm gonna beat the drum again... "please have the courage to provide neutral or negative feedback, my friends... to keep the forum marketplace free of people we don't want to deal with"... as Ricky's feedback was perfect. If I'd know of all these failures to ship in a timely manner, I woulda punted or insisted on the knife before payment.

He still has not returned my calls.

I sent him an email and asked him why he was doing this, and he got right back to me and said his uncle died, a few days later his aunt died, too. Plus his wife left him and he called me a "pathetic piece of shit", for asking him. Plus he said the knife would be mailed out Tuesday per Rob's instructions and if he'd worried about every knife he had paid for and had to wait he'd be in the "loony bin". So, he could answer me fast but not Rob? Then he added I'd never lived the dark side of life.

Strange he could log onto BF isn't it with all this going on to keep him from shipping a knife he has the money for?

careful with that logic, I left accurate feedback and in return was blessed with retaliatory negative out of spite. in my case, I paid ahead of the agreed upon time, and was not given what was promised from the seller. I tried twice to get the mods to look at the retaliation through feedback, and never received an answer, nor correction to my reputation.

Ricky has communicated to me with a couple emails, apologizing for what a mess things are, several family problems were claimed

Funny, that's exactly what every person who has been accused of this literally always ends up saying. I have learned not to buy it from anyone at all.

The guy sounds like a real scum bag.

When it comes to a $400 item, one month equals negative. You'd have to be in a coma to not at least remember and arrange for a friend or family member to drop it off at the post office. We're talking 5 minutes max gathering the info, $5-15 dollars in postage/insurance and a favor from a friend.

One month is absurd.

You can see by looking at the first couple of responses in his visitor messages that he seems to have a hard time keeping people updated with their orders.

Amazing. Jill, thank you. This means he got my voicemails, as I left clear instructions on what I expected in terms of shipping and date of receipt (next day) on my side... and my clear plan of action if he didn't follow through.

Obviously he's hit a very rough patch in life ... anyone who talks about the "dark side of life" is either going through significant grief over loss, or more likely a very deep depression. There is medical help, but one has to work up the energy to go seek it out and give the caregiver some time to help you through it with medication AND counseling.

I'll add that I was very empathetic and patient in my communications to Ricky ... figuring that surely the knife would show up after he got through some days of difficulty. I generally take people at their word until my gut tells me they are lying (e.g. PachaasPaisaa, he of the "empty box", was clearly a liar from the get-go).
Like most people who hang around planet Earth for a while, I too have been through some pretty rough patches in life. It was only this weekend after a huge absence of communication from RickyHawk that I launched this into GB&U, started gathering his person information/location/phone number, and I left him some very firm instructions via phone over the past two days. (I had sent him my phone number 2 weeks ago asking him to call, but silence).

Anyway, again, thanks Jill. We'll see if he comes through w/ the knife.

Ricky, if you are reading this, I ask that you simply fulfill your end of the deal when the Post Offices open up again on Tuesday. The moderators don't look kindly on knife deals that aren't fulfilled. It'll be one less weight around your ankle.

Fair point... but kinda subtle compared to 30 positive feedback items.

I again have to ask interested forumites to MAN UP and post neutral or negative feedback. I posted negative feedback one occasion, and sure enough... I got retaliatory negative feedback... but if you follow the threads, the story emerges.

Yea, definitley. The feeback system only works if the negative feedback is also documented. Otherwise theres no point. Not everyone has time
to go through a bunch of threads and posts to do detective work.
