Rocketed into outer Snark

That sounds really cool. Please do load up some pictures when you have a chance. I'd love to see it.

Teaser picture... It's completely flattend 'cause of the pressure of the silt, sand and clay layers above. I've spent the rest of the evening cleaning all the gunk off (this was the exposed side in situ, the other side was still covered in greyish clay) and giving it several coats of wood glue dissolved in water because it was already falling apart. I hope it survives when it starts to dry out.
The deposit this cone originates from the Barremian (lower Cretaceous) and consists of lot's of blackened wood and charcoal. The plant species at that time were mostly giant fern-like plants, conifers and only few leafed trees. This find is rather spectacular because unlike in most petrified forests, this wood is somewhat mineralized, but not really petrified because of unfavourable circumstances. It has the nasty tendency to just brake apart and crumble in your hands. An interesting sidenote: in the same layer, most of the Iguanodon of Bernissart in Belgium were found, a couple of kilometres further West. It was one of the first big Dinosaur discoveries ever made, a few centuries ago. Even before the Cope-Marsh bonewar. So, there's a possibilty you could find an Iguanodon (or other dinosaur) bone (or bones) at this locality, but until now it hasn't happened yet.

Check out this guys 9. It was a post in a group on FB. What are those aluminium handles?

I reviewed them somewhere here. Put them in the freezer as a test. They would be horribly uncomfortable in cold weather.

Another Sh@rp set....

Thanks everyone for the Veteran's Day respect. This week's always a bit busy and causes me to become withdrawn a bit. Not out of sorrow or anger, but more from reflection. Anyway, I see everybody's still humming along. Way too much to catch up on just now. GFY!

I got me a new wedding ring today. Thats right im a baller now. You have to be in the big leagues before you fellas can afford one of these rings. Start saving your pennies.

I lost my old one a good while back and never got around to replacing it. I never been big on jewelry and normally dont wear any. But i finally got tired of people asking me why i dont wear a ring, the way some people say it is like insinuating im cheating on her or something... So i got a cheap ring. If i lose it oh well, if i decide i dont like wearing it so what. But so far its comfortable and looks nice so im happy.

Its tungsten. 8mm wide. Cost 18 bucks. They said it wouldnt scratch so i took a knife and attempted to scratch the inside of the band and.. It didnt scratch... Im happy for the price.

Sweet deal WW! I've been looking for a deal like that:thumbup: my rings have gotten loose after losing some weight

hmmm...maybe you need to use something bigger? destruction testing!

He went to Wal*Mart. LOL!

I lost a LOT of weight (over 100 lbs) and my ring didn't fit. I wasn't about to spend a lot on another ring so I got this EXACT same one at Wal*Mart. Hahaha

I got mine from the river store. Its a King Will ring. I avoid stores, especially walfart, as much as possible.

Im quite certain if i take my Nicholson magicut file to it i could do some damage.... But i was just checking to see if it scratched EASILY. I did scrape it pretty good with the knife... But i wasnt trying to ruin it first day. If you want to donate another one i will destroy it on camera :D

Playing with knives with the boy:thumbup:

Outstanding.

Good for you, brother.
I don't give a hoot in hell what it cost; I'm one those old-fashioned dudes that sincerely believes in the symbolism behind it. Circle of life, undying love, and so forth.

Ang and I's wedding bands are not expensive either... that's not the point. I don't give a fat flying leap at a rolling donut about gold or diamonds... lucky for me, neither does she. But by goodness, those rings are remarkably precious to us. We've been through a lot, and those little chunks of metal represent that to us.

Anyone who tries to disrespect or take my wedding ring from me, or her, is gonna have one helluva fight on their hands. ;)

Sometimes we take our rings off when we're doing dirty work, just so we don't lose 'em or foul 'em up.

And everytime I do that... I'm extremely focused on getting the work done and getting my ring back on. Not because anyone told me I "have to", but because I want to. That's a really, really good feeling :).

Why do I find myself agreeing with JT so often?

Don't answer that... :D

I've got a fairly inexpensive ring myself (around $100, I think) that is titanium and tungsten if I remember correctly. I generally only take it off when I'm doing electrical work. I generally wear mechanix or leather gloves for heavy work and nitrile gloves for work with chemicals, solvents or messy stuff.

I never wore jewelry (aside from earrings) before I was married. Haven't taken my ring off except for a couple MRI's and airport clearances since September of 1999. Mine was custom made by a jeweler friend with two diamonds given to me by my sister that she inherited from our grandmother (22 of them in one ring!). It's very slim and the diamonds are inset, so I'd be hard pressed to catch it on anything. Truth be told, I don't really think about it that much. Looking at it now, I can see the wear & tear of 15+ years. I also have NOT lost weight and doubt I could get it off without some lubrication. Ah, well.

Well said.

I dont care much for jewelry at all... And i cant wear fake jewelry. Ill get a rash around it. So i put off buying a new ring for a while because i didnt want to drop a few hundred bucks on a ring i may not want to wear more than the first day..... But then i read that tungsten is hypoallergenic and wont cause any rashes or turning green so i decided to give it a go again. I like it. Been wearing it all day, even in the shower, and it hasnt been a problem or got uncomfortable.... And no rash. Happy with it.
