Rockstead Knowledge Thread

Owned a ZDP Chi for about three years now, didn't carry it often until recently when I committed to use it more. Every time I picked it up to sell it I couldn't put it down.

I've heard the Rockstead knife line is a hobby/passion of the owner rather than the sole purpose of the business. I read on their site they specialize in high-tolerance parts manufacturing. Is this referring back to the knives or their day-to-day work?

If the Higo had a pocket clip, I would be in big trouble!:D

ytube is filled with lackluster videos from those...although without shame and lacking depth of substance but seeking recognition....:)

Showing good taste, this one, as well as others from Bladeobserver, stands alone. Video shown Higo with pocket clip...:

Among the many Higo variance, video shown was the one I had first ordered in haste but since it did not come with my preferred blade steel, as well as being a pre-order with a long wait.....waiting afforded me time to reconsidered...I subsequently switched over to the SHIN with clad ZDP:

Just got done watching a YouTube video by Pavol sandor. He does cut tests and shows the edge under magnification before and after. These are pictures of a zdp shin before and after cutting a ton of rope. Amazing how the edge held up. No chipping what so ever. I guess it goes to show that if the knife is used within its limits you should be good. Zero convex grinds are no joke. I'm curious how the yxr7 would have held up.

the first picture is before and the next two are after cutting rope different parts of the blade. In the video he shows the whole edge. Besides some scratches it was perfect. This knife inspires me. Lol

Oh man! That's a winner right there:thumbup: Try out the belt sheath, I don't think it's that bad. As a plus, you'll gain more pocket space.

Enjoy that one Brother!

Just wondering if you have any incite on where to get a Rockstead HIGO-X-IW-DLC. Seems like Knife Center says they can get it and it will just take 2-4 months. I am a little worried It will wait the 4 months, then find out nope they cant get it.

Last week they had more then 1 in ZDP thats when I managed to get one. Heinnie has a DLC version and if you are outside of EU you can ask them not to charge VAT.

Get on the notification list with all the online retailers and it may take less then 2 months. I understand how hard it is to wait. While waiting for Higo I bought a Chi as an impulse buy. Now glad I did.

While you wait we can tease you with some images.

Interesting, I'd be curious to hear more about this if anyone can expand on this.

Congrats Pink, I reflect those statements!

Be warned though, that tip is dangerous! It's the sharpest, pointiest thing I've ever handled and has cut me several times. Just a quick glance will draw blood.

I also read the same thing about Rocksteads. The ceo of some huge company loves knives and wanted to build the perfect knife or something to that effect. Can't remember where or who though sorry.

Rockstead should really hire some of you guys to take pictures for them. In my experience these knives are hard to photograph, but when it's done well the pictures come out fantastic

Okay, need to bounce some ideas of people. I was able to handle an RYO, Higo, and a CHI this weekend. The plan for this knife is EDC often.

RYO: Awesome blade shape, nice handle, greatly dislike the way it sits in my pocket.
Higo: Love the ability to take the knife apart and clean it, handle is nice and comfy, blade shape not my favorite.
CHI: like the blade shape, feels kind of small, handle felt slippery, good pocket clip.

I work in an office but its a really relaxed setting. I was really planing on getting a Higo "IW-YXR7" but I only wear a belt like 30% of the time. I have never had a knife that doesn't have a pocket clip. I don't know how I feel about the knife just floating in my pocket.

I have even thought about getting a CHI and a Higo, then taking them apart and seeing if I can swap blades.

I say get the Chi. The Higo-XIW is beautiful too, but if you don't like belt carry then that's understandable.

The blades will not be interchangeable between the Chi and Higo, the geometry is too different and the blades won't seat right in the handle. Furthermore, they have different stock thickness.

I'm sure some of you are tired of seeing this pic, but come on...just look at that blade. How can you say no to the Chi?!?!:)

Also, since you mentioned the Chi's handle being slick, you can put some grip tape on the spine. I did this and it enhances the ergonomics by 100%.
