Rockstead Knowledge Thread

That's all personal preference and depends on how you will use it.

If you want some details regarding blade steel, take a look at page 5 of this thread.

In short:

YXR7- Tough and meant for harder use

ZDP-189- Hard but brittle and meant for simpler cutting tasks

Both blade steel's are rated at the very apex of the knife steel chart and can be used for the most demanding cutting tasks. You will see other manufacturers, such as Spyderco, use ZDP-189.

I own a higo for some years
and I might get another Rockstead

Does anyone know if the “inside system” of the shin is the same as in the tei
I found pictures of a deassambled
tei
but no inside look of the shin
Thanks for your help

I believe that the internal construction of the Shin, Tei, and Sai are all similar. However, I am not 100% sure.

I know the Chi is a little bit different. The stingray inlay on the clip side conceals the pivot screw, which is a male screw.

The Tei has a female pivot that appears to be pressed into the aluminum panel under a steel liner.

Based on how the Tei is constructed, I'd bet that all of the models without a pivot screw concealed under stingray are similar. Tei, Shin, and Sai.

Good luck, you can't go wrong with any of these knives!

The Hizen has been out for quite a while. The Hizen/Higo and models with stingray inlays have been out for quite some time. Then came the Sai models in titanium (which I believe was their first titanium models), and the Shu followed after.

Now their latest is the Shun, and the Ryo will be the newest; this of course doesn't include their beautiful fixed blades.

Any idea of what year the SHU was released?

You still carrying your Rocky any Blues?

Oh yeah! Lately I've been carrying various switchblades since IL law has changed, but my Chi has seen the most pocket time of all my knives.

A Protech TR3 has taken the spotlight recently, but the Chi is waiting to play its part soon.

My Chi still remains my most carried knife. I have jeans that have the imprint of a Chi on the right pocket:D

Arrived today, that smokey finish is just sex. Not 100% sure what blade grind it has. My Hizen had it written on the authenticity slip but this one doesn't.

I could be in trouble , in the past Ive been confused with all the Rockstead knives and the difference between the
ZDP and YXR & steels, it has been a quiet weekend and been reading way too much about them.
I have sourced the HIZEN in both steel type.
So please Do Not help me choose guys, my credit card is happy with me being confused for now .
I've been quite happy with a small 21 damascus for almost a year in Dec. Maybe Jerry will start a guess thread and
get my mind off these crazy thoughts , until Wednesday anyways.
