RoseCraft Knives

Was impressed with the sowbelly so I ordered a Loom Fixer just now, although I think some purists would take issue with the name since it lacks a secondary pen blade! I don't much care though lol, looks like a beautiful knife. The nice tall blade should help the edge stay nice and thin even with the slightly thick blade stock

Love this loom fixer! Or is it a whaler really?? Either way it's fantastic for the price, very close to GEC imo. Shield is raised but perfectly smoothly buffed into the handle, absolutely no gaps around the shield and can't field the transition, kind of prefer it over being flush. Can see some glints of liner around the edges of the covers in some spots but that's the same for the GECs I've had, and most of the pins cannot be felt at all. I'd say the rosewood looms better than the chechen rosewood Eureka jack I used to have, great grain.

Nearly perfectly flush in all three positions, as close to perfect as I've seen when open. Just wish the liners were brass!

Awesome blade, came sharp and niiice and thin behind the edge out at the tip. Haven't used it yet but I can tell it'll cut very well.

Not looking to be a heretic here, I do love my Rosecrafts - Nolichucky, Teardrop, Coffin Jack. However, I would certainly reach for them more often if they came in thinner blade stock. Is the sodbuster the same thickness as the others?
I want to say yes, even the lambsfoot is.

I agree, that's a big reason I went with the loom fixer for my second, they all have the same stock thickness so the taller blades have thinner edges. A French broad jack with blades like...0.06" at the spine would be AMAZING.

But yes, they do at least come nice and sharp, on par with any manufacturer I've tried.

A birthday present today my wife. It's great.
It's fit and finish is superb. The only thing I don't like is the nail nick is to far back, the swedge could be a 1/4 to 1/2 inch shorter and the nick brought forward, I did break my nail the second time opening it. Not a deal breaker but something that could be improved upon.
Hardly any mechanical advantage with the placement of the nail nick, I can see why you would have broken your nail!
I’ve taken a dremel with a diamond disc to cut in a makeshift nail nick closer to the tip on a few knives, but I don’t have that model but I like the looks of it so I might try one out. If I do get one I’ll try to remember to post back how I end up with it.

You’re not wrong G2. It seems they chose to move the nail nick back to accommodate that long swedge. I personally have no issue using it, though I do concede it would be more useful further away from the pivot.

That said, it’s still my favorite pattern they’ve released by only a slightly small margin for all the other things that did right with it, at least for my preferences.
