Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

Does anyone happen to know if Rough Rider makes a single bladed wharncliffe? I've been looking at more expensive ones but I want to make sure I like the pattern first. I've got the sailors knife from them, but that's a little big, and more of a sheepsfoot.

I don't think so. But if you happen to find one please report back. I would like one too.

This arrived yesterday, just got to the P.O. before closing :thumbup: It was really rather filthy on delivery, greasy, tarnished and a lot of foulings in the joints - as most factory knives are.:barf: But a wash & brush up, an oil drop and a rubdown with the micro-cloth soon revealed a really decent knife! I got this as backup for one I already have but this one is even better and has an improved shield. No gaps, no blade rub, ferocious snap (impressive on a small single-spring knife) fine edges that shave hair just like that. RR Baby Copperhead in Amber Bone 3.25" Well pleased.

Good looking knife Will.

I'll be adding a few to my collection this new year for sure.

Think you got me sold on this one Will, don't think I'm gonna be able to resist. That's if I can find one. Looks like the hunt is on.

Blake - I've got one of those Baby Copperheads. It's a very nicely made knife. To make your searching easier, the red one is model RR571 and the amber bone model is RR532 and apparently RR531.

that the match strike nick looks big enough to actually be useful.
the on the RR sowbelly main clip is small and I find the one on the sheepsfoot the best for stricking the match.

On the topic of simikar knives, does anyone have experience with the "new" Hammer brand or any of the (Frost I'm assuming) "authorized" reissue knives for Honk Falls, Miller Brothers, EC Simmons?
I'm currently enamored with this guy View attachment 604169
And the other knives are going dirt cheap up on the bay.

I have the Hammer Brand HB4RPB 4 blade canoe.
Hammer Brand is and was one of the Schrade companies. Taylor did a limited run of them, I want to say from 2008 to 2011. I'll have to check my emails on that. I'll edit this if I have it wrong.
Great knife, blades all sharp, no wobble, decent pull; not too hard or soft, no gaps on my example, the bone to bolster fit is perfect, and the shield is properly inset; not proud or sunken.

Which model are you looking at? Your link/attachment does not work

I'm looking at the HB10 Sunfish Whittler.
It looks like a big old handful but combines my love for whittlers and sunfish patterns and appears to be a beautiful knife.

I was curious too, so I bought two 4 1/2" Large Stockmans, a Miller Bros in Smooth Yellow Delrin & a Honk Falls in simulated jigged bone, (also Delrin). Absolute clones as far as size, shape of the blades, and both with identical lined bolsters. The Miller Bros had a satin finish to the blades, while the HF has polished SS blades. I gifted the Milller Bros so only have an old low quality photo, but kept the Honk Falls. Fit & finish was very good on both knives, blades were extremely sharp, good half stops, well centered, and both came with strong springs for a good snap. I believe they came off of the same production line, and that makes sense as 'ol Jim Frost owns both brands. Inexpensive yet very usable well made tools. Good daily users.

I'd grab it. They are not making the Hammer Brand any more, so right off the bat you have a limited production run knife from a good manufacturer. From my experience, the Taylor Schrades are just as good as, if not better than, the old USA made Schrades - and no more Swindon key construction!
You will not be dissapointed if you get it.

Thanks for the info jc that's most helpful. Sorry for the late reply, been trying to get myself back to work after the holiday. Yeah I guess that is a red, as opposed to amber, bone model that Will has there. Haven't got one of those yet, its really nice. More determined than ever to get my hands on one now. Thanks again buddy.

My error on model number. The RR531 is the similarly sized half Whittler. It's the 532 that is the Amber Baby Copperhead.

Being really new to traditionals I've been venturing out and trying out a lot of USA made brands, one of the things that I do miss about the RR's in my pocket is that nice match strike nail nick. It does lend some extra purchase for opening up your blades.

PS that half whittler is a great knife you should pick that one up too of you don't have it already. It's probably one of the best $9 pen sized knives around.

I've got a Bulldog stockman with a long matchstrike pull on the master and matchstrike nicks on the two smaller blades. They seem to use a combination similar to this on many of their products, you may want to check them out. I believe Frost owns them, and a few of the other Solingen-based brands you see popping up online and in forums.
