Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

I was wondering if there are any RR styles that you've been disappointed with? For me it is the thumb hole, blade lock trapper. I have average size hands, but it is impossible for me to use this knife as a OHO. The thumb hole is just too far down the blade; can't get the leverage to open it with my thumb. I do think the blade lock mechanism is neat; but this is one knife I'll never carry (not that I carry most of my RRs, Colts or Marbles). Anyone else have a disappointing experience with any RR?

Other than a bit too fancy for EDC?
I have a couple of the "Sunday go to Meetin'" Rough Riders.

I have several of the thumbhole bladelock trappers, and they are very difficult to open one-handed. The frame is just too narrow, and wants to shift in your hand when you move your thumb up to open. But they're still a very effective blade combo to use as a traditional was meant to, with two hands.

The thumb hole trapper is a fine knife. I was just hoping when I bought it that it was a OHO. It works fine if you use both hands.

Both of these, a Boker Plus and a Rough Rider, cost me less than $30 between the two - amazingly well put-together knives that cut like demons! This was my carry yesterday, and the first day in years that I've gone entirely without a modern folder.

I just ordered the improved muskrat in yellow synthetic!

My first RR! Great fit and finish. Snappy!

I'm thinking it will be for me too. I picked up some natural linen micarta scale material and if it turns out that I do like tje pattern it's getting sent off to Glennbad along with a Case Mini wharncliffe trapper.

Those RR's are good looking . How are they at holding an edge?

Not bad, I guess. Most of mine have come shaving sharp. None gets used enough to need a lot of sharpening. The ones that get used a lot see a leather strop or kitchen steel every now and then. They would still function for EDC if I never touched them.
