Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

I am into traditional archery.
Me too. I don't hunt any more because hunting in California is akin to trying to study at a frat party. Too many city boys out there trying to shoot up the woods. I still go shooting a few times a year to keep the skills up. My favorite bow is my Bear Archery long bow.

Thanks Blake. It is my favorite of the four RR knives I own. I hadn't seen it around either but was lucky to spot one on The Bay. If your lucky enough to find one, it has the strongest pull/snap of any of the RR knives I've owned.

Yes I have a Colt example but I like the simplicity of the RR model, think its a bit smaller too. RR do a yellow delrin one which I also like. Have a number of Rough Riders some of which have become my go to users and others which are, frankly, to nice to use. Just need to get the two I've mentioned now...mind you I've said that before. :)

My only other colt knife, a four blade stockman.

The Frost really surprised me, it is actually pretty well made.
It has a great feel and very classic look to it.

The RR’s are close to excellent.
Joints are slightly sunk towards the pivot on one and the little one had a gap in the springs but snap and action on these are very good.

The small one is quite similar to the GEC 14 size and disappears in the watch pocket.

All in all these are very good working knives.

Bear makes a great bow for sure. I wish I had one.

Some of these knives are really gorgeous! I love the way they do jigged bone. Some of it I would be happy to see on any knife, regardless of brand. I should get some more!

I have had some duds but these are all a pleasure to carry.
Very nice.

I got my Black Cherry Bone Congress and 5 blade yellow delrin Sowbelly.

The Congress is a cool knife. I got it mostly because I wanted to try a traditional congress (I have the GEC #13 but it's a half congress). I like it, but I don't think I'll get the Case Medium Congress which was what I was considering. I don't love how close to being obscured the nail nicks are or how close to proud the tips are. But it's still an enjoyable knife for $15.

The 5 blade Sowbelly unfortunately had a pretty much unopenable spey blade. It was jammed against the liner and next blade, and also very rough if you were able to get it open. The other blades were all around a 4 on the pull scale, and had no wobble. I called in to see if I could exchange it. They actually said they'd just send a replacement and I could keep the one I have, which is great customer service and more than I expected. Since I got to keep it, I ground down the spey blade at the swedge until it wasn't wedged as much. It's much easier to open, but still rough on part of the opening. Don't really know why, but oh well. Even with one blade not fit in right, it's still impressive at $13.

Sorry I don't have pictures but I'll be doing 1 minute overviews and knife talk videos for my youtube channel tomorrow hopefully.

^^^ Nice!

My family knowing I’m a knife nut have given me a few Rough Riders as gifts. I was surprised at how nice they are given the price point.

Just ordered a few different RR patterns to try out. Great way to experiment without breaking the bank.

Imperial putting out some solid knives!

That imperial looks like it comes from the same factory as the Rough Riders. I'm sure it is a decent knife, but its blade profiles and body are exactly the same as the Rough Rider, except for markings and covers.

Got this one in today it's an RR375

What do you think of it so far, Gary? I bought one quite awhile ago because I liked the look of a spear main on a whittler. Once I got it, I liked it so much I ordered another that I just sent off as part of a GAW prize on Monday! :)

So far it agrees with me :) and a handy size for the watch pocket, I like the blades on it, although I'd rather a clip point main but it'll do, for the price, sure is hard to knock !
