Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

Well the frost Parker knives may have been ok, but the Frost Japan knife I bought was complete garbage. Pakistan liquor store quality. Being made in Japan doesn't take the edge off buying a crap knife.

I just found my locking barlow I had lost it for a few months so I thought I would post up a shot of the couple of RR's that I currently use.

Those Rough Rider Half Hawk knives make great whittlin' knives with a few modifications.

RR and other off shore brands do look nice and some may be very good quality. However, I just can't bring myself to buy Non-American products when I don't have to. There are plenty of American Knife companies (Case, GEC, Queen & Bear just to name a few) that need out support. Money spent off shore is loss of wages & taxes here in the USA. I'll save my money and buy American.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We got it.

Please take you political chest thumping somewhere else. Your political/bigoted (or worse) opinions aren't welcome here where other folks are just discussing knives.

Check further up this thread where the moderators of this sub forum have made it clear that this sub forum is for knife discussion ONLY.

Knives. Period. This isn't a talk radio channel. No trolling. No political philosophizing. Don't ruin one of the best and longest running threads in this sub forum.

Thanks for saying that Midnight.
Funny how all the anti offshore comments get through.

I like that locking Barlow, Barlock? :D and use mine quite a lot as it's a decently turned out little knife. Interesting deep jigging on the bone, keep thinking of buying another of those in the Armour Hide series.

Glad to hear you found it, it's always miserable when a knife goes missing. Now where's my Chambriard Le Compact in Stag??? Went MIA Sept 2013, sniff:(

The individual that made the original post has been officially warned.
Now it's time to get on with discussing the knives.

I'm gonna buy one of those 4 bladed w/caplifter Stockmans that were featured in another thread. Looks like an awesome knife. I've also never had a peanut, so I might get one of those too.

I'm working to set up my photobucket account. Once I get it right I'll post pics of my cap liftin' stockman.

I'm glad these Rough Riders are getting some good reviews from you guys. There is a flea market/consignment store around here that has 4 or 5 glass cases of various new and used knives. I plan on going through them to see if I can dig out a hidden treasure. That said, my own business is small so i don't want to waste the person's time if there isn't anything that strikes my fancy and not buy anything. I mean, I am purposely digging through their stock to see if they have anything undervalued, so I feel like I should walk out the door with something:D
If I don't find something I can't live without, I might just pick on one of those cheap RR Barlows. I've been hankering for a wider bladed work knife to go with my edc Stockman.

The Armour Hide Series is a very neat line! The Barlock as you can see has gotten a lot of use! The blade sharpens up incredibly as it's so thin, I almost cut my thumb off with it in one fell swipe, or mi-swipe around Halloween. My wife yelled at me as I refused to get stitches. I had the wound duct taped for about a week until it finally closed up. I was near ready to put some stitches in it myself.

The Delrin trapper above it is actually a RR trapperlock one hand opening. I had to flip it over and hide what it is as we're in the traditional area but I did want to get a shot of it together with the other RR's. That's a great knife and I use it for general duty and so that my wife doesn't stab herself with the auto assists or the CRK. She actually cut herself with the CRK which is why I have the barlow lying around in the same area, although I don't think she's any better off as that thing is screaming sharp as well.

My LeThiers in Juniper was let go to a forum member. It was really too nice for me to bang up. I couldn't do it. I think it was the slip. I received a Northwoods in a slip and I couldn't use that knife either psychologically. The slip was too bulky to carry around and I felt that I shouldn't be carrying the thing without it. Pure stupidity on my part! I'm still missing a green alox cadet in the house somewhere. Hate when that happens! I still have a list of traditionals from every maker that I would like to pick up, on the RR side of things it's going to be one of those whittlers or something in the white bone!

Cheap in price, only. I only have a few RRs, but they match up well against much more expensive knives. I have a couple of "Remington Signature" series knives that are their less expensive branded versions of traditional patterns and they have performed as well as any knife I have ever owned in the last 50+ years.

By the way, you NEED one or more of those RR Barlows. I have the 3 1/2" with their "Bark Bone" scales and it is a heckuva knife. Fit, finish, operation, all great.

I have one of the RR Sunfish and it's not a bad knife. I bought it to try the pattern. I sharpened it up to about a 15 degree edge and it chipped a little. A lot of stainless does the same.

I've got 2 RR Barlows and 2 Scouts. I have to say that I'm impressed with fit and finish. They aren't as polished and sparkly as a Case but the rest of the F&F is pretty close. I like them as they seem to be quality at a stupid affordable price.
