Rough Ryder Reserve: New Premium Rough Ryder Line

That was me, yes no fibers after sanding down at least half way, just lots of resin dust. Not the same as the Northwoods denim micarta...not the same at all, maybe Pipescarta or something. Probably 1 layer of denim or just a jpeg of it covered by lots of goop.

Another member here said that they did get fibers though.

Absolutely, you can even see where I scorched them with a dremel. Not only that but some of the fibers fuzzed up. If this was only one layer with clear resin on top the side view wouldn't show multiple layers. Just my 2 cents. Whatever the the shrinking stuff may be I don't know, but I'm convinced that the denim is what it is.
Edit to add: it may not be true denim, but some other thinner fabric dyed to look like denim. I mean to say I'm convinced its some type of resin impregnated fabric. 🙂👍

If only they put the shield on the bolster... still this looks quite pedestrian (there's nothing super weird) for the RRR line.

I don't know, the lanyard hole is definitely unique on a Barlow... and the fat spear isn't the norm for it either... plus the shield... looks like they are still attempting to be "different", but it's not a bad looking knife.

True, but at least these items aren't completely useless, obtrusive, or change the overall functionality. 🤷‍♂️

I guess Case does do shields on barlows, so it's not completely out of the ordinary. I like the barlow and will probably get one.

Here's one that snuck in. It's not labeled as a Reserve, but obviously is. I wish they would use wood. This pattern screams for some nice wood grain. I would even be OK with the brown burlap micarta or canvas micarta they have recently used. I'm kind of tired of the cheap looking "denim" micarta. 🤷‍♂️

This one looks like it could be a very good user. I'm not fond of the blue jean micarta either. That tan looked much better. These would look nice with carbon fiber, like the Brother knives. But maybe it would look too much like the Brother knives. I don't think Brother does anything in wood, just micarta and carbon fiber.
