Rough Ryder Reserve: New Premium Rough Ryder Line

Return it and ask for a refund, then buy it from Chicago knife works.
I would have bought it from CKW to begin with, but SMKW had them first. I guess I was expecting better QC from RRR, seeing as I have the entire run and this has been my first fail.

Just got my hands on the new RRR Barlow! It's quite nice. Feels in the hand like something between the recent Queen two blade Barlow and the Boker Prime Barlow. Fit and finish are perfect as are the walk and talk. Great little Barlow.

The Barlow is PERFECT except for a misaligned arrowhead shield. I can't believe that, with all that care and quality, they made an error this visible.

Fit and finish are outstanding, it's nice and robust, feels great in the hand, and the blade is rather wide so I expect it will be good for spreading peanut butter and jelly. 😃

Ha. Indeed, I would expect gaps or something else to be wrong. Shield misalignment is a weird thing to get wrong, I will take a picture of mine when it arrives to do a compare. Regardless, of how it turns out at $40 this is an amazing deal.

I look forward to seeing yours, Peter.

So strange to have this error. Some of my Bokers do, too. One would think there would be a hole drilled by jig on the plate and then the scale gets aligned with it, just like the other holes. That's what I do with mine and mine are not even close to that level of quality. Go figure.

I just ordered the little Barlow. I'll share my thoughts when it gets in. Great looking little knife. I wish RRR would start to offer some bone and wood covers.

Ok, I might have gone for months or years without noticing that (in pics anyway), but now that you've pointed it out, I can't unsee it eeksmaller.jpg

That is an odd mistake.

RRR001BM in the watch pocket about a week solid now. Very good FF and centered. I am getting smoother at catching the blade cut out on top of the pocket and getting it open, but it would be a faster opening if the half stop were not there.

I've opened up about a dozen 50# feed bags, most plastic, a few heavy brown paper, and some other around the house tasks, the edge is still fine. I am beginning to think that this has replaced some of the "modern knives" in my EDC as it opens one handed, but I dont need pocket clips or locking blades to safely open the mail or cut bailing twine for the horse. I'm surprised this doesn't fit more peoples needs or maybe it is just obscure enough that those out of the slip joint crowd dont realize it exists.

edit, I have only been aware of the pattern for about 6 months and I'm over 50,

And nobody thinks it's weird having a pin AND a lanyard hole at the butt end of the knife?
RR does some funky stuff, but it's interesting enough that I broke down and bought one... let's see if I finally get a well built knife from them. 🤞

I actually like the lanyard hole but yeah, it should be in the pin position serving both functions at once, if strong enough.

I did the same thing! 🤣
I have lots of the RR Barlows but this will be my first RRR. Supposed to be here tomorrow. Have to say I liked the free Fedex shipping. 👍

They are using an arrowhead shield to try to steal some sales from the popular Northwoods brand.
Arrowhead shields have been used by several companies over the last 120~130 or so years.
Was Case's use of the shield/bomb, oval, bowtie, and bar shields trying to "steal some sales" from NYKC, Cattaraugus, Schrade/ Ulster/Old Timer, Uncle Henry, Camillus, Utica, Colonial, Robeson, Northfield, Northwoods, S&M, and all the other companies that used those shields since Case was founded? Of course not.
Northwoods wasn't/isn't the first to use an arrowhead shield. I've seen photos of prewar (your choice of which of the two previous World Wars) that used an arrowhead shield. They and Rough Ryder won't be the last to use it.
I doubt most non-knife nuts or collectors have ever heard of "Northwoods Cutlery", or they may associate it with the Northwoods Cutlery of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries (which also used other shields) that folded either before or during the 1930's.
Also, all the RRR have used Micarta covers. Doesn't Northwoods use bone, wood, or stag, with no or very rarely Micarta? Speaking of which, are companies that use natural cover materials "trying to steal" sales from other companies that use the same materials, in most cases, in the same red/black/blue/green/amber/yellow colors?
Shields that aren't the company name in cursive are not proprietary.
