Round up those Cattle Knives!!

I've seen a few Schrade/gec 53 cattle knives. They exist and I've wanted one for a long time. I know of the fire and ice and the autos that GEC made as well but if someone owns the 53 pattern, pls post a pic.

waynorth waynorth , black mamba black mamba , Ramrodmb Ramrodmb

I had to do some digging as GEC never posted picks of the Schrade cattle, but they made 89 pieces in burnt stag #531310P under the Walden Brand SFO.

Also they did 100 pieces 531310P under the Ulster Brand SFO.

I've only seen 1 Ulster and two Shrade/Waldens. If anyone has an extra.....PM me.

Holy cow pies, there's been some great cattle knives shown!!!
More than a few (including waynorth's exquisite examples) have knocked my ten gallon hat off. :)

Glad you like them herder!! Sorry about the hat!!

I too would like to find an example of those Ulster and Walden Cattles, Rockon75!!

For your perusal, here's that Schrade (Taylor) on the #23 frame; Not that long ago you could pick one of these up for $50 - 70!!!!
These are from the days when GEC put Remington-style stout:eek: pulls on the #23s. I love this knife for that, among other attributes!!

Beautiful knife! Hard to believe the price these went for back then. They sat on shelves for a good long time too.
Here's a picture of the stamps/etches.

The bone color is a lot lighter than I've seen before . Did if fade with use?

A non approved dealer used to have a couple of 4 blade, pearl handled 54’s, I think, could be wrong, sat there for a number of years. Definitely the Cuban frame though.
Thanks, Neal

Looking at these pics, I notice that the awl/punch on the Texas Cattle Knife is not nearly as pointy as on some other brands. Anyone know a reason for this?

John, this knife hasn't been exposed to much light - it's just sat in the tube for years!
Never been in a pocket as far as I know. I remember that I also had a much darker one that I traded off (probably for a pittance!).
:D

The end is more blade-like than the super pointy ones. Just a different way of starting a hole - more sturdy also; less prone to being snapped off by a careless moment!

That’s a real nice one - Acorn Shield on Beautiful Bone.
I’m trying to guess the maker- the Bone looks like some of my Sears Knives - - Camillus Bone - but I don’t have my glasses on as this was a quick visit.

I can’t quite see the remains of the Blade etch or the Tang Stamps- can you help me out here please.

An older beautiful Cattle Knife!

Tang and etch say Remington. Who made it is anyone's guess. I'm guessing Camillus but I don't know when they started making Remington's.
Charlie...

Invoice's and George's knives are virtually identical!
An acorn shield on a Remington usually indicates a knife with a punch.
Nice ones!!
