RTAK Type knife

Make the handle the same size as the one on the RC-6.

This.

And 3/16 stock, max. It'll be a hell of a slicer/ cutter like this.

Give it a blade more similar to the RC6 and less like the RTAKII. Ditto the slicer/ cutter. And it will stick more efficiently, if that's what you want.

And yeah, a molded sheath, and if you wanna really get sexy, give it a removable dropped belt loop. Makes the sheath similar to the Mad Dog combat sheath, or the Mission sheaths for the 10-inchers.

I got the itch to try my hand at knifemaking a couple months ago and so far I suck at it. :p , however I do like the feel of the handle on this one. I'd love to have a RC-RTAK so I could toss this one and not have to worry about shoddy workmanship. :D

This is 2" wide, 3/16" thick 1095 with about 11" of blade. A similarly dimensioned RC would ROCK!

IMO a large survival knife should be thick enough to chop through animal bone without any damage to the blade.

In my experience, 3/16" goes through every bone in a pig, koyote, and rabbit just fine. No damage whatsoever. A Rhino might give you some trouble. You might have to baton that one.

I agree on the Tak - use mine almost everyday..what a great design- the sturdy handle stands out!!! On the RTAK - canting the handle would be good. I like the Golok idea, but I would like to see something with a sharp tip - I'm currently busy with a anti poaching course for a West African country, and the RTAK has proven to be great in the jungles- the canted handle would be great on those African hardwoods. I also use the RTAK as a back-up weapon - blunt point... don't know.A parang design could also be good ?!No matter what you come up with I'm sure it's going to be a hit.

If you want to see monster blades, check this site out (below). Justin owner of Ranger knives made these 2 beasts for an auction. SICK ! There is no way someone would use this outdoors, other than to scare people away. I dont want to offend anyone from RC by putting these pics up, its just to show how ridiculous blade size can get.

These are the specs for the knives shown

Blade Thickness .50 thick 5160 RC 58
Blade Length 16.25 inches to the plunge line
Blade Width 3 inches
Overall Length 22.5 inches

Blade Thickness .25 thick 5160 RC 58
Blade Length 14.25 inches to the plunge line
Blade Width 2.5 inches
Overall Length 20.25 inches

I would. I would absolutely use that beast outdoors. Not much use for it indoors, but I can think of plenty of things to use it for outside. I don't see anyone CARRYING one of those very far, but I would strap it to my four-wheeler or tractor and leave it there. And the wood of the trees would shake in abject TERROR at my approach!

Nice design  I'd like to see a more aggressive tip(less belly) on the RAT version though. EDIT: Disregard this...I quoted the wrong person.

Kind of like a car bayonet ?

Those rival some of HI's more substantial blades. I approve.

Note: this is NOT what we are asking for in the RC RTAK.

About a good week of experience with the RC-6 and I just love it, the handle is perfect, size, feel, traction, ergonomics, just perfect. The drop point design is really the best design for my needs in the bush, if you ever make a RTAK type, RAT please don't make it a bowie or a dagger, keep it a nice good drop point with a nice thick enough spline so that the point is up to get a beating, plus when battoning I don't want the wood of my batton to get eaten by a false edge. I also love the full flat grind so please keep it. Really fell in love with the RC-6 and might get an RC-4 or RC-3MIL to replace my well beaten Gerber LMF. The coil on the RC-6 is great but on an RTAK length blade it might be unnecessary since the blade will be too big for precise work. The canted handle is to me unworthy, just keep it the way it is on the current RCs.

In other words my big knife need would be satisfied if you just put a bigger blade on the RC-6 a 10 to 12 incher would be great, maybe had a little width and thickness to it so that it can stand battoning through rhino bones (just loved it on the previous post :) ) but overall please keep the great design and the great work.

A surprisingly satisfied new customer.

Thought I'd give this a bump! Really excited about this blade  I don't yet have any big versatile blades. All of my larger knives are so honkin thick. This blade promises to be really fast in hand and a great brush clearer and small limb chopper. The extra swing speed and thinner bevel should make it a pretty decent chopper on some heavier duty stuff too!

I wish the RC RtakII would come out already!

.........ZZZZZZZZZZ............
:o

Is it out yet?

No? :(

damn!!

What the hell is takin' so long? :grumpy:

They've got a lot of projects in the works at the moment, and they're just a small operation. That's why. :)

I'd rather wait for the perfect blade than rush into one that will not be as great as RATs are meant to be!
