Rule #9 XXL World Tour 2016

Ok, loved how the knife almost felt like a short sword in my hand. It was very light yet the blade was long.

The one and only gripe, (other than the sheath :p), is I wanted a bit more material around the handle, but that is something thats purely personal preference.

If I were to order a Rule #9 XXL, I would ask for a Mud Turtle handle. :D

But let it be known, this is one hell of a knife! Thankyou for letting me use it for a week.

Good to know. Thank you for your thoughts.

You must be from Alberta via West Virginia! Aye!:)

Welcome to the Worlds friendliest forum! (unless I've been drinking Bourbon).

Haha...yeah...although Texas reminds me a lot of Alberta...or Alberta reminds me of Texas...
But I've been lucky, I've got some great friends...Brothers, the real kind you can count on, down in the U.S. Of A!
Maybe I spent too much time down thar...
And thanks, you are a very friendly bunch, for sure!
I hope I can contribute something worthwhile in the future...
In the mean time I'll be trying very hard to stay off of the Busse Exchange Forum!

Thanks, Andy.

Now THAT is how reviews are done. WOW.

I agree. Excellent review. I didn't realize that the Rule#9 was Mack's original design and can't wait for my turn with the XXL. When browsing John's website for the first time, the #9 caught my eye immediately. It has beautiful lines and I still have the EDC version on my short list.

Thank you, gents!

I don't know why I had to post in two posts, but I was getting errors when I tried to post the whole thing in one post.

I have three other forums where I post my reviews, with any luck someone will see the reviews and passaround and want a knife from John!

That was a really detailed review, yet there were no comments? I think when others post their reviews just post them in this forum where people will enjoy reading them.

knife arrived today.
first impressions tonight, use throughout the weekend.

really nice sheath! the only twitch I have with it is the lack of dye inside the throat, which is a personal preference.

The handle contours are nicely done and even, all the metal edges on the knife are sharply squared, as are the front and back edges of the scales.
balance point appears to be just in front of the first pin, so it's plenty lively in hand.
I wish the scales were 1/2" - 3/4" longer, because as soon as I move away from a "hammer" grip, the entire handle disappears in my hand and I feel all those sharp edges.
I'll know more after the weekend, whether or not that translates into hot spots.

pretty piece - looking forward to putting her though the paces.

I was wondering about the handle size and your mitts. If the handle slabs were extended to the end of the exposed tang would they fit?

it'd be close.
hammer grip:

more common "saber-ish" grip

the grip I didn't get a picture of is my veggie cutting grip -- 3 fingers and thumb on the handle, index finger down the spine, butt of knife socketed in the "pocket" at the base of my palm.

Are you sure you're a knife knut? You have a lot of hair on that forearm. Most of us would have tested that off by now. :D

When Steve Dick, former editor of Tactical Knives magazine, ordered his, he wanted a full handle with a 5" blade. He told me he used his on a deer last season, and was pleased with how it did the job.

Thank you, Sam.
