Rule #9 XXL World Tour 2016

Tasty!

Looks like it did the job - I have a cutting board just like that for smaller tasks -

She is. She needs some time to get some smoked but if somebody wants some she will get it smoked. Now I'm really hungry.

I see no Lima Beans!

They went in there - that was just the onions and peppers sauteing in the olive oil....but I did get around to the other stuff; I also put chopped canned ham in my succotash. Mmmmm. I think I made some for a gathering a while back...

Chris - if you still have the knife could you please send me the overall length? I don't remember it and I need it so I can post the knife on my website.

I will measure it when I get home this evening. I'm hoping to spend another day or two with it then mail it to the next participant on Thursday.

You are welcome.

Task 3: Clearing a trail. I used the R9XXL as a mini-machete to limb some cedar trees. While it's not ideal for the task, it performed admirably. The length/weight of the blade made short work (easy single swing) of finger & thumb size limbs. The lack of forward weight would make heavy chopping a chore (but isn't heavy chopping always a chore?), but the nimble feel and neutral balance of the knife allowed for precise, quick cuts that are very accurate and effective.

Sorry no pics as I was by myself and didn't want to swing with one hand and take pics with the other.

If the next in line would get me their address I will mail the knife out this week.

Email on its way with my address. Let me know if you don't get it.

I'm told that "12 inches sounds longer than a foot". I don't know why but I'll go with it.

The Rule #9 XXL has passed from my grasp and is on it's way to IL. Thank you again protourist for allowing me to participate and to JK for making the knife and hosting this forum.

Final thoughts on the R9XXL: This is an awesome knife. It's bigger than I personally need, but the design allows for a very well balanced knife and a very nimble feel. It looks bigger than it feels (in a good way). The grip is extremely comfortable and fit my hand very well. Prior to this experience I would lean towards not caring for the exposed tang. However, after spending a week with the R9XXL I find I like it. It's not obtrusive or obnoxious and I can't see it ever causing any issues. There are scenarios (real or imagined) that I can see it being useful in. So, it takes nothing away and adds (potential) value.
