S30V Framelock / G10 Leek

And I am not sure it it would be possible to remove the steel liner and just have the G10 in the knife I pictured, I can't remember off hand, but I think all the AO stuff with the spring and cutout is on the lock side, so it should be possible. The G10 and the steel liner are glued together though, so I am not sure how you would get them apart.

From taking my steel-handled Leek apart, the AO mechanism is actually in the non-lock side, since it's wider than the non-lock body on the lock side.

Thomas,

I don't care about the handle really. I'm all about function. The handles on the frame locks are fine. The Titanium may help the frame lock to bind better on the blade tang but I would be fine with just the blade being ZDP-189.

Have you guys ever thought of unassisting the leek? Or making some that are just manual opening? Just curious :)

Ya, noe that I think about it, maybe you are right. They couldn't have the cutout and stuff on the framelock side. I am thinking that you could't take the steel liner off the g10 and still have the knife work.

As far as un-assisting the Leek. I tried it and didn't like it. I think you need a heavier blade and probably a little more of a flipper for it to flip out decent without the spring. Plus as it is, I don't think there is a dent in the blade for the detent to hold the blade in, the spring holds it shut. I could be wrong though, somebody correct me if that is the case.

Nope, there's no detent hole. The tangs are smooth, except for the pivot hole, and the one for the AO spring.

I'd be interested in one, only if those atrocious thumbstuds are made more accessible. Even putting thumb channels/grooves into the G-10(I assume this will be right-hand only like the others) will be sufficient. I understand that this may affect the speedsafe mechanism though, so perhaps this idea will work better with a non-AO Leek.

Thanks for all the opinions and kind words on this possible project. Let me see what I can do.

I wouldn't worry about handle thickness/thumbstud problem since a Ti handle will be significantly thinner than the G10 one. I would like some texture though to the Ti handles, something like this custom knife (mine  ):

Ti texture

Wadda you guys think?

While your knife is very nice and the texture well executed, the essence of using a Leek is to be able to clip it in your pocket, and smooth works better. Leeks have great ergonomics for unobtrusive RF carry, and I find my smooth ones (don't ask how many)the best!!

Please answer this! Would the vapor also fit the leek S30V blade?

When looking at both knives, the pivot pin on the Storm is larger than the Leek. So I will say no. (Storm, the smaller one and a Leek, green Al. handle liner-lock with a black 440a blade) (noted for clairity)

Hope this helps. **I meant to say Vapor**^^^^^**

You know that shady-looking guy with the worn out OD green army jacket who's always standing on the street corner? You've got a pretty good idea that he's selling crack, but he likes to make you think that actually buying crack from him is your idea. Next thing you know, you've got no job, you've got no family, you've lost your health. And all you've got to show for it is a bunch of knives.... I mean a crack habit. You're hooked, and there seems to be nothing you can do about it. :o

TW, we love you. Your like the worlds best crack dealer... I mean knife maker-manufaturer-marketer-representative.

Harsh criticism, but a good warning jemelby! Don't buy so many knives that it jeopardizes your family and social life! Unlike crack, however a person can own a nice little collection, and live happily ever after! ;)

Yes Thomas, when will we see this new Leek??
Also the JYD???

Well because of the voices here on BF's, a 1000 piece run of a Titanium framed, ZDP Leek will be produced, and delivered by mid June.

waynorth, 2 sizes of Tim's Junkyard Dog (manual action) will be debuting at this years Blade show. Details on spec's are currently being finalized, but it looks as if Sandvik 13C26 will be the steel of choice with these two. Sweet flipper pattern for sure.

Thomas, is this true? If so, my visa card # is XXXX-X.........:D

Thank you!
