S35VN RC ratings

You can absolutely have a blade re-hardened. I sent off three sebenza blades to Paul Farner (Paul Bos HT) and had them re-hardened to 60 after he personally tested them at 57.5, 58 and 58.5. This was a few years prior to CRK bumping the hardness. Personally I think the new hardness is great and don't feel the need to modify my newer blades. But the blades I had before were very soft, edge would dent inward. My VG10 delicas would hold a better edge and not take that kinda damage. Keep in mind Bos/Farner can only take S35/S30 to 60 with his current equipment. However if you picked up a seb post 2014ish, you really don't need to even bother. Sharpen it a few times and get past the factory edge, should see an improvement.
Alright I'll take your word my friend. Hopefully their little bump in hardness does make that much of a difference.

I've definitely noticed a positive difference between the pre- and post-2013 Sebenzas. They take a very keen edge and I've been able to strop them back to hair popping sharp, even after extensive cardboard cutting and other such tasks.

Sahweet! Only 9 days left till I order

Apparently Chris Reeves claimed his steel can do 300 cuts through an extension cord and still push cut afterwards? This video was simply to disprove that..funny I guess you have to walk the walk to take the talk
This worries me? You guys don't need to watch the whole thing..skip to about the 12 minute mark..the edge literally flattens and he did the same test with Aus8 and the steel held up better than the "CRK S35VN" maybe it's just how he's cutting it ? Idk what do y'all think?
I wouldn't put any faith in what that guy says. He is known for starting steel controversies. It's his thing. I won't even get into the rest of his poor character.

I believe I have one of the new hardness versions (I'd need to look at the date to be sure). The edge retention is just fine.

I hear yah man..I realized the video is like 4 years old too, so it's probabaly when the heat treat wasn't as high I believe.

But I read the comments and I guess back then Chris Reeves himself claimed his steel could do 300 or so cuts through extension cable and still be able to push cut paper, so it's odd why he'd make such a ridiculous claim. But hey I guess we all think our product is the best. Just like our own kids are the smartest and most attractive right?! Lol.

Thin-Slice Thin-Slice
I mean..I'm no blacksmith but I do understand simply chemistry and I do know that its not particularly good to heat a metal then cool it down over and over again. It will eventually make the steel brittle. Whether or not only doing a heat treat twice actually causes any harm I cannot speak for sadly.

Hopefully someone chimes in and can make me look dumb lol.

When (Paul Bos HT) speaks, people listen. There aren't many people who know more about heat treating than those people. If they re-hardened it for TTTis, then it's ok.

All I know is Chris Reeve makes some great knives. I don't anything about Chris Reeves Knives.

I wonder if you heat treat it again will it warp the edge since its pretty thin?

The three blades I had rehardened came back exactly how I sent them, no warping etc, dead flat straight just like how CRK sends them out. Edge was perfectly fine, but dull. However you will loose that beautiful stonewash finish.

I'm sorry.."TTTis"?

Me..........

And yes, if Paul Bos thinks rehardening (at least just once) is ok, then its just fine. I used those blades for years and the only difference I noticed was no edge denting, keener sharpening and much better retention! I'm quite happy CRK made the bump and personally in day to day I absolutely notice the difference.

Lol sorry I'm a bit indisposed sometimes when I sit on here if you know what I mean. Didn't realize that was your profile name.

I really want to send mine in but damn to loose that stonewash finish though ..that really hurts

I would recommending using the knife yourself first before getting too worried about it. No sense in messing with it and voiding your warranty if the hardness is just fine.

There is about a million people that can stonewash that blade for you after you get it back from heat treat.

You will want to look to see if doing this will void your warranty, perhaps even ask crk. Part of what you are paying for is the quality of the company. I'm not sure it would be worth losing that backing for a couple hrc. Speaking of cost, this whole thing sounds expensive (heat treating, stonewashing, all the shipping and insurance). You will be adding a significant cost to an already expensive knife. Would not be worth it to me but I'm with the newer heat knives.

Agreed
I really think the OP would do himself, the dealer and CRK a big favor by just skipping the Sebenza and finding a knife he actually wants. You don't like the price, blade steel, heat treat, and are worried about the smoothness-maybe more, I forget. Most likely will be going over this knife with magnifier looking for flaws. This purchase just screams disaster.
Don't buy the knife just because others like it if it isn't for you

I absolutely agree with Peter Hartwig.I made mention of this in one of the other threads. It's Ok not to like this knife, but the OP seems intent on buying this knife even though many of his posts indicate he's unlikely to like it.

It's a recipe for disappointment, as the knife doesn't live up to the OP's expectations before he's even handled one.

Agree with the above two. With all changes he wants to make the cost could buy a number of different high end knives that fit his requirements.

But guys I just need to experience all this hype lol. And besides if I don't like it what's the harm in selling it on the market for a 50 dollar loss? I don't see any issues...honestly it's a win-win in my eyes, seeing as I don't have a close enough local knife shop to go inspect one myself.
