SAK Mods! Post your pics, questions and ideas

Almost done…
I take a Alox and only use the blades and backspring, then I make liners in brass and do brass rivets. I kind of like the old-school look of a equal end with brass. On this one i got a scale in copper-coal damast style paired with a bolster in elk horn wich I stained. The small divider between the bolster and scale I did with black paper and coppper tape wich I glued with coal powder in the glue

I'm wondering if it's possible to use the 84mm saw with a different 84mm backspring so that you could put a backside tool on it.

What I'm thinking about is basically a Walker/Lumberjack with backside tools. Specifically an awl and corkscrew. It would be like a mini GAK/Safari Trooper because it would be 2 layers and it would have all the same tools as the GAK.

I love the old 108mm GAK. It's so basic but yet so well rounded.

You could start with a Waiter, then add the saw layer. The Waiter already has the corkscrew. You'd just need to figure out how to get the awl on the back of the saw layer. I wonder if you could modify the 84mm bottle/can opener's backspring to work with the saw.

Check out the custom 91mm Waiter in post 143 above. I went with the extra length to increase the usefulness of the saw.

I like the scales.

You know... if you got your hands on the backspring from the saw layer of a Ranger, Handyman, or a Swiss Champ model... then you could use that backspring to add another backside tool to that 91mm blue beauty of yours. The question I have is this: would the awl fit? Because if it does, then you've basically got yourself a 91mm GAK/Trooper.

The spring that handles the corkscrew also runs 2 other blades. If you look at the saw side of the knife, the back spring is much different having an anchor on one end and no provision for working an awl. The back spring would have to be custom made.

For a better look at the innards of the custom Waiter, see post #132 above.

So I have been getting into Victorinox lately, I can tell I'm gonna be enjoying this brand. I have seen a few SAKs with small Spyderco blades on them, and have been wondering, how do "Spydernox" knives get made?

I am not 100% on all the sizes, but I know something like Dragonfly blades go on Cadet sized knives? I was thinking either a saber-ground VG-10 waved Dragonfly blade on the Cadet, or a wharncliffe K390 blade, maybe both, if such a knife would accommodate it and still keep sufficient tools. Still, even one would be really cool. How would one go about putting one of these together, or having one put together? As I've said a couple times around the forums, would love to see an official Spyderco/Victorinox collab.

Can't believe I haven't seen this one before...

Alox Jetsetter

No, not the lame @work version with the flash drive and the dorky plastic key ring hole. That thing is an embarrassment.

Just a plain alox Jetsetter with scissors on one side and a magnetic combo phillips on the other. Same thickness as an alox Classic SD. I have never seen one.

While we're on the subject of knifeless 58mm mods...

Knifeless Rambler

This one removes the SD tipped file and the knife, and replaces them with the SD tipped ruler and the normal nail cleaner tipped file.

So you get scissors, a combo phillips, a ruler, and a pointy file. Knifeless Rambler.

Onto another 58mm idea...

Parcel Pal

This one is intended for opening mail and blister/clam shell packs. Envelopes and boxes. That sort of stuff.

It's a Classic SD, but the file is replaced with the Cut and Picker tool.

So you get scissors, knife, and a package opener. Everthying you need to open mail and store bought items. The Parcel Pal.

Lastly, we have another travel friendly idea...

Knifeless Rally

For this one you take a Rally and remove the blade and the SD tipped file. You then replace them with the ruler and the pointy file, but you also reprofile the nail cleaner to a sort of half hook shape style nail cleaner which is slightly more aggressive than the normal one.

So you get a phillips, a flathead, a ruler, a nail file, and an improved nail cleaner. Knifeless Rally.

...

...

I have never seen anyone build any of these. Since I will probably never find a skilled and reliable custom SAK maker who also actually has an opening in their schedule, I am just giving out these ideas here in the hope that someone might eventually use them.

I'm certain this is the first time I've seen a T-handle scissors. :D

Are they on the knife layer? I didn't know it was thick enough. You had to widen the pivot hole, right? What other 58mm tools have you managed to put on the back of a 91mm SAK?

If 58mm scissors fit, then I assume the 58mm magnetic combo phillips would also fit. They're both the same thickness, right?
