SAK Mods! Post your pics, questions and ideas

I have seen a few mods with G-10 liners, is it comon to make mods without any liners when using thicker G-10? How is the w&t with G-10 in that case?
I use .125” G10 without any liners and those knives have great w&t! G10 is very strong at this thickness and makes for a nice snap.

You may or may not remember my " splinter pick " replacement for the toothpick that I make from a piece of stainless steel windshield wiper insert ( the bigger ones from truck wipers ) I've been very happy with the design I had settled on but the retention needed to be improved because it started falling out recently.
I thought of a couple options but settled on drilling a hole in the back and using a center punch to punch out a detent.

I would like a SAK mod but one of the smaller knives. Not keychain size (SD classic), but maybe the next size up. I don't know all the sizes.

I want a dragonfly blade if possible (one hand opening), scissors, and anything else is negotiable. I want some kind of cool scales, maybe milled Ti, Mokume, or Timascus. And colored liners.

One person, a really good artisan (fit2survive), said it would take at least 42 weeks. Anyone know a guy who can help me. I'm 72 and waiting almost a year, with my health, is one year closer to the end.

Our resident modder Spikediesel Spikediesel should be able to take care of you in a much more timely fashion with top notch work👍

First one with G-10 instead of brass liners almost done. Initial conclusion, it´s fast working in this material :) And since one needs a respirator, that´s a good thing.
And just as Spikediesel Spikediesel said, the snap is good, and quite loud. I will take some pics when it´s done. It´s a 92mm with slightly dropped tip on main blade and a sharpened awl as secondary. Single spring and G-10 make for a really light carry compaired to the others I have made :)

I am planing to do one more in G-10/micarta. I have a 1mm orange G-10 suited for liner that I never saw a good design for, but now I am thinking it would be cool to combine with denim-micarta and try to find 3mm copper pins. It would be the perfect Jeans carry :)

The next size up is the 74mm models.

All of those models have scissors.

I found one on Amazon I like called Pioneer X. It has scissors. But it is one of the few SAKs in inches (3" and something) instead of millimeters. Have you heard of that one? It is alox but I would buy a red one to get modded.

I was looking around at Etsy last night, and you know what nobody seems to do? Burgundy/red micarta, similar to GEC's. Wouldn't even be that far off from classic red, would look absolutely wonderful. Is there anything particularly difficult about achieving that color of micarta?

Going to try to dye some of the new nylon Floral handles - those look beautiful.

The Pioneer X is quite a bit larger than you said you were wanting. It's a 93mm model. You can't buy it with red plastic scales either. They don't manufacture plastic scales in that size.

You said you wanted the "next size up" from a Classic SD. The Classic is in the 58mm category. The next size up from that are the 74mm models with scissors which I already listed for you.

After those are the 84mm models which don't have scissors. Any scissors for the 84mm size are going to be hard to find and expensive because Victorinox doesn't make scissors for the 84mm range anymore. What sometimes happens is that modders will take scissors from other size SAKs and adapt them to fit into an 84mm size SAK.

After those come the 91mm models which all have plastic scales, and then the 93mm models which all have alox scales.

There are also the 65mm and 85mm Wenger/Delemont models but those aren't often used as a basis for modding. Modders will sometimes take tools from them, such as their scissors. The scissors from these models have tiny serrated "teeth" and aren't very popular.

Locutus D'Borg Locutus D'Borg I would really recommend the Executive - it is "small big" Victorinox, as it's not so big as the 84mms which have the same "heft" as a 91, so it feels light and leisurely, but it has way more tools than most of the easily available 58mms.

I ordered a Mini Champ (has all the tools ever made on the 58mm SAK), and I am sure I will love it, but... sometimes you just want a slightly bigger blade. I get that. The only one with the "orange peeler" which I find very underrated, it's great for tearing things that need tearing, like packages and such with tape and gunk or whatever, picking things out of tight spaces, it's a flathead screwdriver. Just need to use imagination with some tools.

As soon as I find a modder who's lists are open who can put a D-fly blade in a SAK (it is do-able, just need to find someone), I will promote them to the heavens.

Hey, I just searched Amazon...twice..and NO executive came up. They have every other model but no Exec.

Aww, that sucks! They're always doing my boy the Executive dirty like that, haha. It's under-appreciated, for real, the 74mm size. I was so glad to discover it, I wouldn't have if not for chance.

SwissKnifeShop has em for $30, though!
