Savson Swords & Knives reliable?

I placed an order with them two weeks ago for several inexpensive items intended as birthday gifts for others, and the items arrived within a week. However, the products were just "tossed" into a mailing box without any packing material, and the contents were rather "bruised and battered" when they arrived. Had I known that both contact numbers Savson lists on their site were disconnected, I would have thought twice before I placed my order. I prefer to be able to speak directly with a customer service representative should an "issue" arise.

I would probably be reluctant do business with Savson in the future.

It looks like the Randy is having some problems right now. Hopefully he will be able to get things running smoothly again. He will probably need a bit of time to do so.

I hope everything goes smoothly. I've bought a half dozen knives there with no issues at all. Great service and prices!

Thanks for the info....I was considering ordering from this company but will wait...one person with surgery should not screw up the whole business.

I would recommend ordering for New Graham Knives instead; they know what they're doing and everyone on the forums has had a first-class time with them. I highly recommend them, as well as Grand Prairie Knives.

That being said, Savson Swords & Knives was also one of my favorites. In the past couple months, I've ordered three knives from them and two came within two days. The third came in a week, only because of the way I ordered them it fell on a Sunday. They have two places where they supply their knives, from a shop in southern Ohio and another warehouse in California, so this may explain some shipping delays (knives coming from different places?). I don't know. Now I am hesitant to order from them.

Thank you for sharing your experiences.

God bless you, America, and our men and women overseas.

KATN,

Wade

Randy's phones were down a couple months ago and wasn't answering emails either. Not sure what was going on there but I think I would be a little more competent with my business. I don't care if he or someone else is running it, do it right or close! They were one of my favorite places as well at one time. Now I buy from Autumn's Edge, Arizona Custom Knives(Julie Hyman),BladeArt,Les Robertson and the Maker's here on the forums.

Well, I've sent off 4 e-mails and still no answer.

What a joke!

I just can't understand why he would send two knives and not the third.

In general, I do think it is unwise for an internet business to not list and maintain on their website a contact phone number. While not necessarily the case, the absence of a "working" business phone number can give the appearance that an internet vendor is "hiding" from it's customer base. I do however understand the economic reasons for eliminating phone based customer service contact....it costs money !

Let me be clear here...I am not specifically accusing Savson of offering poor customer service, only commenting in general regarding the importance of good communication between a seller and their clientèle.

Even the six year old "running" the neighborhood lemonade stand soon learns that once you take the money, then you deliver, quickly, with a smile, the product as advertized.....and if there's a problem you explain the difficulty right away and politely apologize for the delay. It's not rocket science.

Nowadays one person can be the whole business. I'm another one that used to do business with Randy. He was always a decent guy and had competetive prices. I haven't bought anything from him in a while more due to brokeness than lack of trusting him. It does show if nothing else that a compasny without a working phone triggers peoples suspicions. Joe

I've ordered a lot of stuff from Randy, and have referred many friends who were all satisfied. I typically order items that are not listed on his site, so I usually call him to order, but since his number's been down for many months now, and it seems he's been out for surgery, I haven't ordered anything (and I had intended to order a few more knives recently too). He's a good guy. I hope he gets his phone working again because he's never been very good at returning emails. His prices have almost always been the best I've found, better than NGK except for BMs. I love NGK too and it's great I can get a hold of them easily, but that was also the case with Savson till recently.

I read this thread after placing an order with Savson S&K this past Sunday evening, and was a bit concerned.

However, three business days later I have my whole order in-hand. Perhaps these problems are over. My experiences with Savson have always been a combination of great prices with fast service.

I hope you are rigtht because my credit card got charged the day after I placed my order.

I have been emailing yahoo to get his site shut down.

Here is the address: shopping-support@cc.yahoo-inc.com

I suggest everyone do the same, as well as file complaints at these sites:

http://www.ic3.gov/

http://www.usps.gov/websites/depart/inspect

http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/complaint.htm

http://welcome.bbb.org/

You can also email hate mail to Randy at admin@savsonswordsandknives.com and info@savsonswordsandknives.com just to brighten his day since he was so kind as to brighten ours.

There is no excuse for not posting a notice on his site, refunding peoples money, responding to emails, still taking orders and charging cards, etc.

I have been trying to get a reply from him for many months now, yet some others have got bs excuses from him since then...

Anyone close to his location at:

9134 Stony Creek Ct.
Loveland, OH 45140

(Southwestern Ohio)

? Anyone want to make a FTF visit?

Actually, I can think of at least one: you run a home business by yourself, you have a life-threatening medical emergency, and as you try to recover some d-bag spams your inbox with hate mail, posts your address to an online weapons forum, and asks people nearby to harass you. Nice.

FWIW, my experiences with SS&K have all been great. Like others, I found this thread only after placing an order (10/25/07), and not receiving replies to inquiries. As of today, I have NOT been charged for the order. So consider this something of an update. And IMO, if SS&K is out of business, it will be a loss -- he/they offer quality products and frequently at the lowest price around, w/prompt shipping and good customer service.

At least now I know why my 2 emails have gone unanswered -- they're buried beneath dozens of rants from unarmed Ninja wannabes. ;-)

What would you consider a reasonable amount of time to wait for a shipment or a simple reply to an order status? A month? 2 months? There is a limit between the time you place an order and when you can request a chargeback to your CC account. If you wait to long after your CC has been charged, it is very difficult to recover any paymnet sent to a merchant. SSK should not be charging your CC if there is a delay in your shipment and he should give a coutesy e-mail to inform you of the delays. He should also be answering his emails from those who sent back broken items or orders not filled correctly, especially if he already sent return authorization numbers.
One more thing, I think it is his fault if he is getting a lot emails from irate customers and not the irate customers fault for sending him emails.

Hate email isn't cool, and neither is getting people to harass him, but he is doing a piss poor job of running his company. If he is going to keep things going the way they are now, him going out of business wouldn't be a bad thing at all. If he can get things turned around, then good for him.

Man, this is tough continuing to see these threads about Savson. Randy really is a good guy and has always conducted himself in an extremely professonial manner with me, and I have literally bought hundreds of knives from him. I completely understand that everyone is upset, and if everydody here on the forums has to stop ordering from him, then so be it. If he has to go out of business, so be it. If he's never able to get things off the ground in the world of knives again, so be it, but I just wish we could all stop bashing so hard. If you've spent any time on the forum then you know there are problems, so quit ordering from him. I'm sorry some of you have had to wait wayyyyy too long, but I'm also really feeling for a guy who's life is pretty messed up right now.

Sorry if it seems that I'm being callous to those who have been jilted, I don't mean to be.

Cheers,
Jon

I do have compassion for Randy and I wish him well. But my intent and most of us on this forum that are expressing our negative experiences is to warn others not to order anything from SSK at this time because you may not get your order in a timely fashion and you might even loose a few dollars in the process. I believe he should just stop taking orders right now and shut his site down until he can regain his health. Seeing as how many believe he is an honourable person, the emotional stress he must be experiencing knowing that many of his customers thinks he is a crook is not good for his recovery.
