Scout knife callout!

This is my boy, right here. Man, I remember taking it out of the dang tube nearly 20 years ago.

Yes, the curved easy-opening cutout (vs. rectangular) for the longer, more streamlined Phillips SD mark it as the 1992-2007 model. (I should mention that Kerr maintains the newer version came out in 1991. Our Council's Scout Store definitely didn't get them until 1992.)

Too bad we will not see its like being manufactured in the future. :o

The round shield was used by Ulster U.S.A. in the 62-85 period for BSA utility knives -- but not with that pre-WWII CO.

Here is MY knife that i sold last year on EBAY like a dumba$$ :(

I was told that it was made by Cardinal Cutlery in the 40's

Your Cub knife is Kerr's CAM03CR if the punch is also offset like the SD. BSA # 1885. Holbrook says 1960-69 for such knives. Does that seem right?

The Cardinal is interesting. It is not pictured in Holbrook's book or Kerr's book (Kerr discusses no Cardinal knives, but we know they existed.) but it sure looks like a blade shape only used by Cardinal (Other's clip blades were slightly [or greatly] different.) 1945-1948.

I was born in 68
I think I was nine when I bought this around 77 at Hilsons in Concord, CA
What age are Cub Scouters?
Maybe Hilson's bought a batch in 1969 and peddled them for 8 years!!!!:confused:

I found this on the net:
Remember the Hilson's store down on Mt. Diablo St. where the used book store is now. They sold clothing for the whole family. The store even had an upstairs which displayed baby clothes. Then they moved over on Treat Blvd where the Salvation Army store is now, until they finally closed shop for good.
I got my knife at the Treat Blvd store....Upstairs was where they had the OFFICIAL Boy Scout and Cub Scout paraphernalia that I was fascinated by
My mom would go to look at the clothes and I would race upstairs
I think I eyed the knife for about 2 months
The consumer decision was probably made early on
The hard part was Eddy Haskelling my mom to fork over the dineros....

Yep this is the only one I've got and I really like it.

Trent, Holbrook could be mistaken. He has a green Camillus Cub knife comiong on line in 1970, and I have never, ever seen noe in green.

Cubs are 8-10.

XBXB, that's a Deluxe model Camillus, and a nice knife. BSA Model 1046, 1992-2007.

Here is my contribution to all these great Scout knives. It's marked RS3333 and in great condition. All the blade etching is still there but not visible in the photo.

I have that exact same knife minus the loop. I found it in a ditch when I was about 7 years old. It's been hanging out in my toolbox for the last decade of so. Just out of curiosity, ehat did you get out of yours?

Kerr says 1929-32 and that the 33-35 model had no bail. Holbrook says 1933-1935 w/ bail. BSA # 1496

I found a collection of equipment catalogs, so I'm going to be able to check on some dates myself.

Thanks Thomas, I will be looking forward to any info you can give me. The scout knife books still remain on my want list.

Just out of curiosity, what did you get out of yours?
Man!!!
Why you have to bring that up!!!!????
LOL

I think it went for like 8 bucks
(using THAT picture above....If i KNEW how to take good pictures back then it might have went for a little more..)
It had some wobble and the blades were all scratched up
And it was sharpened about 40 times by a 9 year old kid with a coarse whetstone who didn't know what the hell he was doing!!!
Oh well....hopefully the guy who bought it will make a good home for it

All I got to say is CaptInsano is the man!!!
He saved the box???!!!
How many of you guys saved the box??
That is impressive
You must have been thinking like a collector at a young age

I guess mine was a Model 1885
The pics are bad, but the one on the left is brown and the one on the right is BLUE
