I'm very happy with the list we've created so far and look forward to seeing it grow, but how do we prevent it from falling off the map where others can't find it? Eventuallly people won't have much to say. I'd hate tio see our work disapear. Is it possible to have it stickyed?

Two more that I didn't see in the list were:

"How to Stay Alive in the Woods", also by Bradford Angier (which I just realized!).

"Wilderness Navigation", by Bob and Mike Burns.

A couple more that may have been missed:

Sea Survival: The Manual: Dougal Robertson
The Art of Survival: Cord Christian Troebst
How To Survive On Sea And Land: F.C. Craighead Jr & J.J. Craighead
Primitive Outdoor Skills: Richard Jamison
The Best of Woodsmoke: A Manual of Primitive Outdoor Skills: Richard Jamison
I Live Im The Woods: Paul Provencher
Lost In The Woods: Child Survival: Colleen Politano
Complete Book of Outdoor Survival: J. Wayne Fears
The Psychology of Survival: G.F. Ferri
Survival Arts of the Primitive Paiutes: Margaret M. Wheat
A Snow Walker's Companion: Garrett & Alexandra Conover
Finding Your Way on Land or Sea: Reading Nature's Map: Harold Gatty

Some of the best teaching guides are true stories. Maybe we can form another list? Books like:

Ordeal By Hunger: George R Stewart
Survive The Savage Sea: Dougal Robertson
The Raft: Robert Trumbull
The Legend of John Hornby: George Whalley
Robinson Crusoe USN: Blake Clark
Adrift: Steve Callahan
My Side of the Mountain: Jean George :) ya, this one is fictional, but I bet
you almost everyone of us here has read it as a child and been inspired

Excellent additions, I'll add these and also start to organize the list in a more easily read way. Break out the "Other" Category into several sub categories including these true stories

Camping & Wilderness Survival: The Ultimate Outdoors Book by Paul Tawrell
I absolutely LOVE this book.
Also " build the perfect survival kit" is another good one

Deadfalls & Snares - AR Harding

bump. Just giving this thread some new life incase some people haven't had a chance to take a look at the books.

We still don't have too much on hunting, this would assume you had a rifle with you out in the wild, but I think it would be worth getting at least a couple books on that topic.

One of the best survival guides for hunting, fishing and trapping is your State's Rules, Regulations and Laws book concerning these pasttimes. :D

Whatever they say is illegal is generally illegal because it's very effective. Everything they tell you to do to give game a break, break that rule. Baiting, whatever you have to do.

Hi: Go to www.christophermolloy.com Once there, click on the outdoor living link. Then, click on the 10 Bushcraft Books. This is one of the finest resources I've ever seen. The books are no longer in print but the information is just as important today as it was when printed. Best Luck

Great list so far.

I'll add the Foxfire set of books and Carla Emery's book of Country Living Skills. While not "survival manuals" per se they are great teachers of how things used to be done without all the modern conveniences.

Also Buckshot's Modern Trapper's Guide by Bruce Hemming is the best book I've ever read on how to stay fed in the wilds.

This set of 10 books seems to the same collection that is written as 10 chapters in one book called:
Bushcraft: A Serious Guide To Survival And Camping by the same author.
You should be able to come opon it in the used book stores. It wouldn't be as rare as the 10 volume set.

Good deal, especially since the the 10 chapter book is already on the list :)

The Bent Stick, Paul Comstock

The Flat Bow, Ben Hunt & John J. Metz (Old. I got it at the Goodwill and gave it away to an archery fan.)

Other will chime in with more.
