Sebenza 25 Lock up question....

Just to satisfy my sheer curiosity, how does a proper edge reflect light? Not saying that it doesn't reflect light but I'm curious as to what this looks like.

Thanks for the update. Mistakes can happen in any business. When they do, the reputation of the business relies on how swiftly and efficiently the problem is rectified. I'm happy to hear that Chris Reeve has maintained his mark for outstanding customer service.

I will say, however, that your last post should have likely been your first post on the matter. This thread would have taken a much different tone if all the facts were in from the beginning.

Yes, I agree. I admit I should have waited. The frustration came after the longer than expected wait for the washer, and I really just needed to vent. I will say that this time, service was indeed fast. Again, sorry if it was my fault that everyone got so defensive about CRK, but I did see a number of threads about the service not being so perfect at times, so I kind of just let it all out. But again, I never thought that CRK was a bad company, just the opposite. Its just that my specific situation was a bit different from the usual threads about CRK, and I believe rubbed some the wrong way? Anyhow, it is what it is.
I am happy to say it seems the service at CRK is great, and my misfortune was rare. But, they did indeed make it right, and I am glad they did. I do really love the knife, I say again, I was really just upset that my knife came back completely different knife, and that I am not exaggerating about. But, like you say, mistakes do happen. So I apologize again if Im at fault for all the tension. Just kinda figured there would be more people that have had similar mistakes happen before, and may be able to help with my problem.
Again, I admit I may have been a bit too aggressive with my threads, but again for a high end knife, that everyone speaks so highly of and the service, it was a disappointment and a good deal of stress that I didn't need either. So, it seems to be nothing more than a mistake on their part. As far as my part goes, again guys I was really trying to vent. Not trying to bash the company. Maybe I didn't make that clear enough, I don't know.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the update, I'm glad that everything worked out.

I think you and I have a similar ability to observe details and a similar annoyance when things aren't as close to perfect as you want or expect. I've learned that there are those on these forums that will take any perceived criticism of their favorite company as an attack and will defend via offense. I try to be careful how I phrase my worried questions and concerns, although I'm sure sometimes I'm not as successful as I'd like to be.

It's good to know that the dull blade was due to a simple human error and not that that's how they resharpen and return spa blades.

Okay, well here it comes..........UPDATE!

So, Angela called me today. She apologized for the hassle, as did I for seeming upset in my included note to them. It seems, after Chris looked over the knife himself, that there was indeed a problem. She said they were not exactly sure what had happened, but it seems somehow they mixed up the blades, and ended up giving me a used one instead, after the spa treatment. Then, it seems whoever assembled the knife, DID in fact listen to my note NOT to sharpen it, so he left it the way it was, used and dull. The only problem, was that it wasn't my blade that was put back on my handles. Both CRK and I know that the handles were mine.
Angela told me she apologizes for the mix up, and they are having a new blade fitted to my knife today, in order to give me the earliest lock up possible, although she did remind me that the knives lately are coming with a bit later lock up in general from the factory.
So, once again to some of you that think I am trying to pull a fast one on CR, or thinks they know more than me about my knife, or whatever the case....You are wrong. And, I never wanted to start an argument, with anyone. Just wanted to vent my grief with my experience that again, seems pretty rare but does happen and can happen with any company. Just sucks it happened to me with my first CR knife.
Anyway, I am happy, and told Angela how happy I was to hear that they know the mistake was on their side, and that I wasn't going crazy. After all this talk from some of you guys, I was beginning to wonder....:D
and again I thank you for those of you who actually tried to help me out with advice, and to the other SILLY boys, thanks for your opinions.
Seems mistakes can happen, and oh yea.....Chris and Angela didn't seem to think that I was pulling a fast one.....and its insulting to get accused of that. so again, even though its nice to hear opinions, trying to condemn me for something I didn't do, or just plain trying to start arguments and bs on here is just immature. have a great day. Good to know CRK stands behind their knives, and I WILL continue to be a future customer and carry my sebenza.

It is a shame though, that some people here do try to start trouble hiding behind their little computer screens on forums like this, when all we want to all share in is our love of knives. This place is a great place to learn, get advice, help others, etc. Lets keep it that way gentlemen.

Again, to those that did lend a good word or a bit of advice, I do sincerely appreciate the help, and it did help me to vent on here. And, its makes me happy to have the good news about CR and my knife!

p.s. the OCD thing is funny. Im a bit compulsive, its not a crime, nor is it something I should or will ever for your sake, feel ashamed of. So thanks again for the support in this community...

I can only speak for me, but I never thought or suggested you were trying to pull a fast one. I did and do think you made a nearly epic stink about this whole thing by posting a series of what certainly came off as public rants (when a few phone calls to the source would have worked better toward the solution).

As for hiding behind a screen name, I'm not sure who you mean. I know several of the people that have posted in this thread, because they are friends I have come to know over years of mutual sharing of true personalities...but like yours, their screen name gives little info. But since you bring it up, why must anyone be held to a different standard than you? You vented your frustrations quite clearly, should no one else be allowed the same?

I'm glad you are getting things sorted out with your knife and CRK. It is really an odd twist of events that seems to have aligned out of your favor (truly). I hope you are very happy with it when you get it back.

I'm just looking forward to the next episode, who knows what will happen with his knife next time and how many threads it might need....... :p

Seriously though, I'm glad it's worked out. It all seems like a bit of a mess that was largly out of your control, but it could and should have been far more quietly delt with.

I understand your point. I wasn't referring to you. Just in general, those who directly insinuated that I was being dishonest. And, over the years I also have made a lot of great friends here, and was a bit taken back that some people took my venting as an attack on the company somehow. But, yes, I am not the only one that should be allowed to express my views, so for that I do apologize if I was wrong. Thank you guys for the good wishes. Glad there is no hard feeling, and I just can't wait to get my knife back..

Well, thanks for listening. Hopefully there won't be a next time, but if there is I will surely think twice before posting.

At least in my opinion it was a bit of the boy who cried wolf. Your 1st 3 or so problems( scratches under clip, scales don't match birth card, they lost my knife) weren't really problems. This one turned out to be a true problem and I am glad you were taken care of. Honestly switching blades was the only way I could see your story being true and it did cross my mind. They may make mistakes but for them to sharpen away as much blade as you were saying and getting a dull blade as a result was a bit far fetched-this explains it(otherwise the employee should have been fired for incompetence).
Again glad you were taken care of-they do make mistakes now and again, but they are very nice people.

Even on this problem you did not give us the right information, not that you knew it(you only knew something was wrong with your blade which was true). You told us they had sharpened a sharp knife dull, which was very unlikely for someone who sharpens knives professionally to do. In fact they switched blades-easier to do, but still should never have happened. Since we found it very hard to believe that they dulled your blade leads to doubts of the story(hope you understand). Sounds like it may be time for Chris to have a little talk to customer service since another member also had a parts mix up.

Okay. Well, The scratches under the clip were not a reason to be upset, but still it also really happened and I did want to ask others if they had the same thing.
The scales not matching the birth card, well after asking my questions, I saw many other threads about the same question. And, Yes, I should have searched first.
Lost my knife......Well, again when the time period exceeded 3 months, I would say it was just cause to think something could have happened, as it was not a few days late, but a month. So, I do honestly feel like I was justified in asking these questions, but I do agree that I may have OVER reacted on these issues, again mostly because of the price of the knife. Yes, Im not rich. and yes, Ive bought knives worth much more, but on anything over a couple hundred bucks I do tend to want things a bit too perfect at times. As far as the boy who cries wolf, I see your point but again I would feel stronger if the other issues actually didn't happen and I made them up or something, but I see what you mean. Whatever, again I will treat the next situation if there is one, different.

And, when I first saw the dull knife that came after the 3 months, I was already frustrated and seeing it like that made things a lot worse. But, sent it back to CRK the same day I believe, and kind of did all my thinking about it after that. And, that was only 1 day of quick panic, and being upset. Since I sent it, its been about a week, and I was able to calm myself down and think about it. Then, when Angela told me what happened, I realized really the only possibility, and like you say hard to believe that the edge was the result of a bad sharpening, was had to be a wrong blade put on. And, with them not sharpening it(my note), and all, it all makes sense now.

And, last thing. After reading all these posts again, and seeing as how I did in fact make more threads/posts than were really needed, I do actually feel a bit SILLY. And, I hope I didn't offend anyone personally. And, glad to have this forum to be a part of. The last thing I want is bad feelings from anybody here. This is where I come to get away and enjoy my passion, as I know you guys do too.
Thanks for listening

Hope all goes well in the future and there certainly is nothing wrong with making warranty claims-that is what it is for.

I should add this-the boy that cried wolf example was a bit off. While I was influenced by the previous threads/post, I don't think you lied at any time. If I made it sound like I thought you had lied, I do apologize-it was just poor writing on my part, nothing intentional.

Haze is spot on "There isn't a single "problem" here you didn't create yourself as far as I see it. This has got well beyond silly and then some....Your knife is not destroyed in any way, just stop it and get a grip of yourself, man. "

You say "But, OCD.....YES!!!! I never said I wasn't compulsive just a bit, and it is probably evident in other posts of mine over the years. But, again thats me, and sometimes even leads to a bit of pride " Being OCD is a problem not something to be proud of. It means you cannot control negative impulses in your life that lead to problems with people and functioning.

Maybe this is all a scam, you goobered up the knife yourself and this pity party is trying to get them to waive the charges to rehabilitate it.

What a well thought out and intelligent post backed by facts....
