Sebenza 31 Converts?

Yes absolutely, and I aslo think Tim need some(more) praise for what he has done here, the new ceramic interface and new knife steel was a genious move.
Im not sure I can agree with “genius move”. The ceramic interface was put in place by his dad back in 08 on the Zaan and used twice more on the 25 and Inkosi. As for the steal, well his Chris anctually helped develop and moved up as it became available. I will credit Tim with putting together a good knife that I think his old man is probably pretty proud of.

Moving the ceramic interface over to the sebbie and be that quick about switching to MC, was what I ment.

I think moving the ceramic interface was always going to happen in the next iteration. The quick move to MC was very smart.

It's the only CRK now with a pivot bushing and ceramic lock up. Maybe they do it for the next gen Mnandi too.

I don't know if I can be considered a convert... In all honesty I preferred the aesthetics of the 31 over the 21 from the word go (something about the hole in the show side scale never appealed to me). I picked up a small 21 in micarta from the exchange and tried to like it while I waited on the small 31 I'd ordered direct but it just never clicked. Let it go when I got the email that my 31 was ready.

Maybe it's because I waited over a year for it, or I didn't care for the inlays. It could perhaps be I didn't give the 21 enough pocket time, it did take a bit for me to warm up to the 31 in general. The break in time was like house breaking my beagle, I didn't think it would ever happen...

It's now spent the better part of the last 2 years doing what knives do, and doing it well.

My first two sebbies were small, if u havent u should try a large!

Maybe someday. The small is about as large a knife as I actually care to carry right now. Coming from the traditional end of the spectrum it felt monstrous when I first got it in hand. It was the first lock blade I'd owned in several years.

I know everyone says the larges carry well, but I'd really like to handle one before buying.

They are quite different, the large and the small, despite looking nearly identical in photos. If you are accustomed to one, the other is cartoonish. For me, the small Sebenza is comically small, but there was a time when I carried one for about a month. The large Sebenza seemed like a machete when I picked it up again. Now the large just seems like an ordinary pocket knife to me.

I like to have a "small" just in case I have to attend an event where I have to get dressed up in something besides cargo pants or shorts.

You know, like a presidential ball or something...

I recently picked up my first 31. It's a small DP with inlays. Believe it or not, I've never owned a Sebenza DP except Regulars.

Now I know what all the fuss is about. The design is very good looking. It fits in the hand well and it cuts great. However, I'm having a hard time getting used to the heavy detent. Mine has a bit of lock rock. I did notice the blade play before learning that lock rock is (allegedly) a thing. Doesn't bother me though.

Today I ordered a large PJ 31 DP (but with a polished blade and double lugs). Gotta have a little bit of bling. Sheaths coming too. My plan is to carry the large and small 31 for six months and see how it works out.

I'm hoping to become a 31 convert. If I can, then buying CRKs get's easier in the future. Hunting for 21s and Regs is a PIA. :(

amen, i first got in with the small 21 tanto but never carried it when i realized what an impractical blade shape it was for my edc needs. pretty, but impractical. then scored a user small user 21 insingo that i loved but due to bills foolishly let go. cost a pretty penny to replace these days

The small Insingo is a great little knife. Plenty of blade in a small, light package.

I agree too. The small CF-slabbed 21 Insingo is the only 21 I ever purchased. Still have it. It was a user from the get-go and performed very well. I think I carried it for two years.

But, I was huffy about the "heavy detent" on that 21 and didn't buy any others. Sound familiar? LOL. Just think of all the 21s I wanted and will never own because I put off buying them for 10 years.

Not gonna make that mistake with the 31s.
